âItâs Grandpa. He suddenly fainted. The doctor is still examining him.â Gu Shaotingâs voice was deep. He was shocked when he received Auntie Liâs call. He immediately called an ambulance to send Grandpa to the hospital.
He knew that Shu Pan was out with Xiaobao today. He did not know the situation well enough yet and didnât want to inform Shu Pan at first. However, he figured that Shu Pan would blame him if he didnât tell her of such an important matter.
âGrandpa?â Shu Pan found it hard to believe. The question she had at the tip of her tongue was quickly held back.
What happened to Grandpa? Although he was old, he had been well in all aspects lately.
Auntie Liâs tone had been anxious since Shu Pan picked up the call. The situation seemed very serious.
Other than Gu Shaotingâs mother, Grandpa was his closest familyâ¦
It happened so suddenly that Shu Pan couldnât imagine how Gu Shaoting felt now.
Shu Pan felt like her heart had been stabbed with a knife and she couldnât breathe. Without thinking too much, she blurted out, âShaoting, which hospital are you at now?â
Gu Shaoting knew that she would rush over, but at the thought of Xiaobao being with her, he discouraged her. âYou have Xiaobao with you. Donât come to the hospital. There are too many germs here. Iâll let you know if thereâs any problem.â
Shu Pan pondered for a moment. Gu Shaotingâs concerns were legitimate. Xiaomeng probably couldnât look after two babies at the same time too. She had another idea. âAsk Auntie Li to go home and watch Xiaobao. Iâll see you at the hospital.â
She would never be at ease until she saw Grandpa out of danger.
Gu Shaoting thought for a moment and agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Shu Pan picked Xiaobao up to go home.
âGirl, whoâs sick?â Ye Xiaomeng heard part of Shu Panâs phone conversation.
âItâs Grandpa. Iâm going over now. Iâll talk to you later.â Shu Pan hurriedly went home.
When she arrived home, Auntie Li had arrived too. Shu Pan told Auntie Li about Xiaobaoâs meal status and then left.
The chauffeur had been waiting outside and sent her straight to the hospital where Gu Shaoting was at.
After Shu Pan got out of the car, she rushed to the emergency department. When she came out of the elevator, Shu Pan saw Gu Shaoting leaning against the wall near an operating room at the end of the corridor.
His hair was a little messy and his face was pale.
Shu Pan immediately rushed up to Gu Shaoting.
Gu Shaoting noticed that someone was approaching when Shu Pan was a few meters away. He turned his head slightly and saw her.
Shu Pan slowed down when she was near Gu Shaoting and said, âGrandpa is a lucky man. He will be fine.â
Shu Panâs tone was very firm, as if she was telling herself that Grandpa would be fine.
Gu Shaoting eyelids fluttered as he stood up straight and walked towards Shu Pan.
Shu Pan saw him move and came back to her senses. Before Gu Shaoting could answer her, she threw her arms around him. âHubby, are you okay?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Gu Shaoting didnât say anything. He just stared at her small face and held her hand suddenly.
Shu Pan was startled by his action. She wanted to say something but she felt Gu Shaotingâs cold and shaking hand on hers.
The words she wanted to say quickly got stuck in her throat. She knew that he must be feeling terrible now, and all she could do was to give him silent companionship.
Shu Pan just let Gu Shaoting hold her hand. It turned out that his seemingly calm appearance hid such serious panic and helplessness.
Shu Panâs heart ached to the extreme as she squeezed Gu Shaotingâs hand.
