Chapter 387:
Harlee said, âIn Uwhor, most gangs fall under Matteoâs sway, and no assassin group would dare challenge him. If Rhys was here to negotiate with Matteo, why would Dark Night target him?â
Patrick was taken aback.
He hadnât realized Harlee was so well-acquainted with Uwhorâs dynamics.
âMiss Sanderson, we did initially come to partner with Matteo, but upon our arrival, Matteo abruptly postponed our discussions due to other commitments. Mr. Green, concerned about further delays affecting the special policeâs operations, opted to conduct his own investigations, leaving me to support the police.â
Harleeâs lips curled slightly. This mention of âother commitmentsâ likely involved her⦠In that case, she realized she had no choice but to step in.
Harlee gave a slight nod, her eyes half-closed, her voice empty of any feeling.
âContinue.â
Patrick felt a chill at her tone, finding her presence even more daunting than Rhysââ¦
He swallowed nervously, looked away, and continued, âMr. Green got a tip that Dark Nightâs base was in the rainforest, so he went in alone. Itâs been exactly two and a half days since he disappeared without any sign.â
Harlee glanced at her drink, took a long sip, and said, âAlright, Iâll go find him.â
Patrick stared at her, puzzled.

Could this be a sign of affection?
Harlee returned to the hotel and casually brought up Rhysâ situation to Ritchie and Tonya.
Both Ritchie and Tonya looked utterly shocked, as if they had seen a ghost.
Ritchie asked with widened eyes, âHarlee, are you turning into a Good Samaritan now, meddling in othersâ troubles?â
Tonya voiced her suspicion hesitantly, âHarlee, darling, could it be thatâ¦
Hmm⦠Youâre jealous of me and Ritchieâs affection, so you also want toâ¦
Hmmâ¦â
Harlee felt no wonder that they were her closest friends, each with their unique quirks. She glanced at them indifferently. Sitting down on the sofa slowly, she touched her face thoughtfully. Resting her chin in her hand, she frowned slightly and explained, âThe trouble heâs in has something to do with me.â
Once again, Ritchie and Tonya wore expressions of astonishment. When they heard that Matteo had canceled his meeting with Rhys at the last minute, they exchanged a knowing look. Learning that Rhys was involved in a perilous mission tied to anti-drug operations, they glanced at each other again.
Then, together, they asked, âHarlee, when are we heading to the rainforest?â
Harlee answered with a raspy voice, âPack up. Weâre leaving immediately. Matteoâs mission is in the rainforest too, so weâll handle both tasks at once.â
âAlright.â
âOkay, okay, Iâll call Robbie over.
