Chapter 345:
âNo buts!â Tonya interrupted gleefully.
Harlee laughed softly, wisely choosing to keep quiet about the secret mission to Uwhor for Matteoâs order that awaited them in a month.
The sky was filled with dark clouds, as though they were compressing the air itself. Suddenly, the rain covered everything in view.
At the Green Groupâs office, Rhys stood next to the window, hearing the rain tapping on the glass.
A brief chill passed through his gaze.
Patrick came in with dinner, his heart aching a little when he saw Rhysâ silhouette. Rhys hadnât slept well for an entire month. It appeared the Sanderson family was intent on causing significant damage to the Green family this time.
As it stood, the pharmaceutical and hospital sectors of the Green Group could only survive another two weeks.
Beyond that, they risked closure. Those sectors were Nathanielâs lifeâs work, and Rhys could not stand to see them fail.
Nevertheless, Rhys accepted all the burdens, bearing every loss that the Green Group endured.
But the crisis was severe. The Sanderson familyâs anger still hadnât faded, and the Green Group found itself caught between a rock and a hard place.

Patrick placed the dinner on the table, his voice full of worry as he said, âMr. Green, I brought dinner from the Grand Oak. Would you like to eat before you get back to your thoughts?â
Rhys slowly shifted his gaze, looked at Patrick, and replied tiredly, âJust leave it there.â He moved to the sofa and lay down, his face showing his exhaustion.
Patrick looked on, concerned.
âMaybe itâs time to take action? If the Sanderson family continues to push, Iâm worried the weight on your shoulders will only get heavier over the next three years.â
Tears filled Patrickâs eyes, shimmering like crystals. Throughout the past month, Patrick had seen Rhys endure all the blows from the Sanderson family, willing to take their anger to protect others.
He also watched Rhys use his hard-earned business to fill the gaps when the Green Group faced a serious crisis.
He feared that if this persisted, Rhys might lose everything he had built in the first part of his lifeâ¦
Rhys slowly opened his eyes, fixing a steady gaze on Patrick.
His eyes shifted briefly.
âPlease sit down. I need to ask you something.â
Todayâs exhaustion wasnât from the Sanderson familyâs pressures, but because Harlee had turned him down again. She had repeatedly declined his invites, claiming she was too busy, though Rhys sensed those were just excuses.
He couldnât understand why she had become so distant after their time together in Claelia seemed so promising. Their relationship had grown quite fragile.
