Chapter 9: The Bad Boy Is My Enemy (9)

The Bad Boy Is My EnemyWords: 10066

This was going to be golden.. Grayson stirred, opening his eyes. He was about to speak, but I stopped him, covering his mouth with my hand. His eyebrows furrowed.

I move my other hand to my face and placed my index finger on my lips.

"I need your help." I whispered, it was barely audible so I could only hope he could lip read.

Grayson didn't say anything, just locked his jaw and continued to furrow his brows as he glanced past me, outside their open door and saw both Kyle, Jace and Tara standing in the doorframe.

He nodded hesitantly and crawled out the bed, he was dressed in track suit bottoms and no shirt, which was obviously gorgeous but I had more important things on my mind.

We set the plan in motion, I grabbed one of Alex's legs, Kyle grabbed the other, Jace and Grayson grabbing his arms as Tara quietly directed us out of the bedroom, down the stairs and toward the lake.

Thankfully, Alex was a heavy sleeper. Although I did worry that the wind on his bare legs and stomach would wake him. Served him right for only wearing boxers.

When Tara successfully navigates us too the edge of the pier, their was only one thing left to do.

"Alex" I whispered. Nothing

"Alex!" I screamed and his body tried to shoot up as we threw him into the lake. He went under for a moment and popped up seconds later, gasping for air as we burst out laughing, high fiving each other.

"MAX!" Alex growled as he swam to the edge of the deck. I batted my eyelashes, smiling sweetly at him and his stern face soon saw the humour.

Alex: 1

Max: 1

"Give me a hand?" He asked, dazzling his smile. One thing I had definitely gotten used to these past few weeks was Alex's morning voice. Irresistible.

Of course, me being the naive selfless girl I am, I offered out my hand - and Alex being the sneaky sod he is , took the opportunity to pull me into the freezing water too. I screamed and hit the water head fist. When I came up, Kyle and Grayson were jumping in as Jace was holding a struggling Tara, determined to throw her in. But I couldn't concentrate on them, my mind was fixed on Alex.

He gazed at me for a few seconds, but it felt like years. "You thought you'd get away with that cupcake?" Alex smirked and pushed his wet hair out of his face.

"I got you in the water didn't I?" I splashed him and he was then making a move to dunk me under the water.

"JEALOUSY, TURNING SAINTS INTO THE SEA. SWIMMING THROUGH SICK LULLABIES. CHOCKING ON YOUR ALIBIS!" Each of us screamed more than sing the chorus.  Once again, we were wedged into Grayson's car. Kyle in the passenger seat, Jace on the far edge, Tara in the middle and Alex taking up the last seat. I was currently sat on Alex's knee, back against the window and legs on Tara's Lap.

Alex gave me the most to die for grin as he quite terribly sang the next verse.  Everyone knew the Killers and this was just about my favorite song they'd ever made.

We got home sooner than I wanted. Alex and I headed inside to be greeted by both Elaine and Thomas, both of them red faced and worn out, but of course Elaine plastered the most lovely smile she could conjure up and welcomed us in.

It was quite obvious they has been arguing, the tension in the air was thick, but Alex and I acted as though we didn't notice.

We soon dismissed ourselves upstairs and I followed Alex into his room, which he knew I was going to do because he left the door open for me. I closed it behind me and started forward, I couldn't help but lean up and wrap my arms around his neck.

He hugged me tightly, snaking his muscular arms around my waist and while this is out of character for our love-hate relationship, it was necessary. I knew what he was going through, it happened to me when I was only young.

The shouting became louder and door slamming along with numerous other bangs sounded which only made me hug Alex tighter. This was so different, Alex never let people close, yet he was here close to me of all people.

"Max." he whispered and it was so delicate that I would've never imagined it coming from the bad boy's lips, that same bad boy that once told me he didn't care for anything, that he was ruthless and boy had I believed him, I had to after he almost got me expelled after planting drugs in my locker only months ago, but now..now I was not so sure.

Maybe the bad boy really had feelings. But then again, if I spoke these bizarre words, anybody else would ask who exactly I was trying to kid.

"Yes?" I whispered, so quietly it came out cracked and muffled into his shoulder.

"Take my mind off of things." He kept his voice at the same volume as before, but there was a pleading hint in his voice that I could never say no to.

I opened his window and flung my legs over the side of the windowsill, beginning to climb down. "Come on."

He followed, and since Grayson wasn't around, we had to walk to our desired destination since Alex wasn't getting his motorbike for a few more weeks. It wasn't all that bright anymore, but it certainly wasn't dark.

"So what exactly are we doing, Miss Carrington?" Alex wiggled his eyebrows at the use of my last name and I playfully rolled my eyes.

"Well, Alexander Parker" I raised my eyebrow and he furrowed his, pouting like a child.

"I'll let it slide since I started it...but never use my full name." He shook his head and we continued to walk down the street slowly.

"So for the second time, what exactly are we doing?" Alex asked.

"Depends, would you like to meet with the boys?" I asked him and it took a long moment for him to answer.

"Nah. We're always with the boys." I nodded, and an idea popped into my head. "Then we're going to Jack's."

"Jack's?" He looked at me in confusion then clicked. "You mean the junk yard? Why the hell would we want to go their?"

"It's quiet and quite lovely really. We can pick up a pizza on the way." I told him, but I felt his judgement.

"Lovely? cupcake it's a junk yard, but whatever you say." He shook his head and we headed for the pizza place.

It took us ten minutes of squabbling over which pizza to get when we finally agreed on a meat feast along with two cans of Coke. Then we made our way to Jack's Junk yard.

"Why is it so lovely here exactly?" Alex asked me once again as we pushed the gates open and closed them behind us.

"It's peaceful - and Jack doesn't mind me coming here. Family friend." I replied as we walked through the broken cars and piles of scrapped metal.

We reached a shed that was about half the height of an average house and I began to climb onto scrap pieces surrounding the shed and pulling myself onto a fence then onto the shed. Alex asked no questions, just followed my steps in a struggle and passed me the pizza when I was up before pulling himself up. From up here you get a better view of the junk yard and the empty greenery behind it, it was not exactly beautiful - far from it actually, but it was quiet, a hidden treasure.

We sat on the edge of the shed and opened the pizza box and our cokes, digging in.

"While it pains me to say this Alex Parker, I've actually rather enjoyed staying with your family lately." I admitted and finished off my first piece of pizza before diving in for another.

"It's not been bad has it." He grinned and then added "I still hate you though." with a cheesy grin.

"The feelings mutual love."

"So school starts soon." I pointed out.

"Ugh don't remind me." He rolled his eyes and took a swig of his Coke.

"I'm surprised you and the boys still attend West Vale High. I wonder how long before you all get expelled." I said with a playful attitude yet I really did wonder.

"Ah Principle Foreman loves us, while we get on his nerves and he punishes us weekly, he can't get rid of us."

"Talking about school reminds me - you owe me an Elodie chiffon sweater! You absolutely ruined my last one and it was my favorite!" I almost yelled and mentally wished my favorite sweater a rest in peace.

"Not this again! It was just a sweater!" I huffed at his reply and narrowed my eyes.

"Yeah we will see about that when its your favorite sweater."

"Is that a threat coming from little Max Carrington?" He smirked at me.

"Absolutely." I challenged and closed the empty pizza box while guzzling down the last of my Coke as Alex did the same.

"What's your favorite colour? Just out of interest."Alex blurted out.

"Uh...blue, yours?"

"Green." He answered and then I noticed once again just how gorgeous his deep, green eyes were.

A moment of comfortable silence fell upon us and it was weird to think if Alex and I were sat in silence with each other a few weeks ago it would've been the most awkwardest moment of our lives. Then again, it was also weird that if a few weeks ago you told me Alex and I were going to enjoy each other's company i'd probably have laughed in your face.

Alex dug into his back pocket and took out a small box that I didn't recognize. That was until he flicked it open and stuck a white circular piece in his mouth, lighting the cigarette.

"Since when did you start smoking again?" He took a drag and I narrowed my eyes. Alex shrugged and blew out circles of smoke.

"It's been a while." He placed it back between the corner of his lips and let it hang carelessly for a moment.

I furrowed my brows in disgust as he took it from his mouth and extended his arm toward me. "Try it." I shook my head. There was no way. My mum would royally kill me.

"Suit yourself." He shrugged, popping it back between his lips and letting smoke come out of his nose this time.

"You realize smoking cuts your life down. It kills you." I told him as though he was stupid and I expected him to not know.

"Really? I never knew." He rolled his eyes and I frowned.

"We should head back." I suggested and Alex nodded, getting up and making his way down the scrap piles carefully in the almost darkness and I followed with caution.

I didn't like the fact Alex smoked, but it was his life and he could do what he wanted I suppose.
