Chapter 3: The Bad Boy Is My Enemy (3)

The Bad Boy Is My EnemyWords: 13212

The next day, I found myself back at Alex Parker's house, waking to the sunlight coming through the blinds.

Did I really do something illegal last night?!

It was okay, don't sweat it, people do stuff like that all the time, there was no traces you were even there.

I made my way down the stairs quietly when I heard the voices of Alex and his mother. Rubbing the tired from my eyes, I peeped my head around the corner of the door to see them sat at the table.

"You're being nice to her right Alex?" Elaine  asked with a worried tone. His mother always worried about our attitudes toward each other , she just wanted us to get along.

"Yes mum!" He groaned loudly. "But after her time spent her is over, do not expect me to be talking to her daily. She's annoying okay." He told her, however, his voice was softer than it would have been if talking to anyone else. He always had a soft spot for his mother.

"If you just gave her a chance-"

"I have! My whole life...we just don't get along. End of story." Alex stood up and placed his dishes in the sink.

~~~
"Look what the cat dragged in...finally awake I see." I'd been in the kitchen alone with him for under five seconds and he was already insulting me.
"Alex. I'd say it's a good morning, but seeing your face ruined it." I sniped back. I was always awful at comebacks.
"Lame!" he smirked earning a scowl from me. I ignored him and hunted for breakfast.
The sound of a common iPhone ringtone erupted and being the stupid person I am, I jumped. Alex answered the phone.
"Yeah man, I'm ready."
"What? No way. Not gonna happen."
A few moments go by of which the person on the other end of the line - which I sadly could not hear - answered.
"Fine. " Alex groaned and removed the phone slightly from his ear. He looked at me for a long silent moment, no smile . Nothing .
"Max, would you like to come watch the lacrosse game I am playing today...?" I pondered on the question for a while.
Why would I want to go see Alex's game? Who was he talking too? Elaine?
"Nope" I said popping the 'p'.
Alex sighed and placed the phone back to his ear.
"She doesn't want too." He told them bluntly. A few seconds later he handed me his phone.
"He wants to talk to you." Confused, I took the phone, wondering who it was and why they wanted me.
"Hello?"
"Maxy! Good to hear you're still alive. I'm surprised Alex hasn't killed you yet...or you haven't killed him." The voice that came down the line immediately triggered a smile.
I honestly thought Grayson was much nicer than Alex. Why he followed Alex around I had no idea.
Ever since yesterday Grayson and I kind of just clicked. I knew now Grayson wasn't actually an ass like he was made out to be by Alex's side.
"Oh I'm close to killing him. I promise." I heard Alex scoff beside me but I chose to ignore him.
"So Maxy, you don't want to come see our game then?" When Grayson asked, I felt a lot more like going. I didn't know why, maybe because I actually got along with him and the rest of the boys other than Alex.
"I'm sorry, I thought it was just Alex. Count me in yeah?"
"That's what I thought. See you soon!" He hung up and held Alex's phone out for him.
Alex's face held both irritation and perhaps mild annoyance - likely due to the fact I'd happily spend time with his friends.
I began for the stairs to finish getting ready, but Alex was following not far behind me. Now I just had to wait for his rude remark...
"You realize they are my friends? Not yours right?" He followed me to my room.
There it was.
"so?" I answered while grabbing my hairbrush and running it through my knotted hair.
"So...hang out with your own friends...oh, you don't have any." He laughed. "Anyway I don't want you to come."
"Grayson does." I replied refusing to look at him.
Why did he hate me so much? I mean of course, we had always hated each other, but he was just so cruel.
"Wait you actually think they like you?!" His smirk grew bigger as I turned to face him now.
"Oh my god, you do! After one night you actually think my boys like you!" Alex tan a hand over his twisted features, laughter escaping his lips. "They're toying with you love. I don't like you and neither do they. I thought you knew this?" He laughed at me again and I suddenly felt my cheeks heat up.
They didn't like me? I thought they did after yesterday.
"I hate you Alex Parker. Get out of my room!" I shoves him through the door slamming it in his face.
"I love you too!" He yelled, happy to have gotten a rise out of me. Idiot.
~~~

When the boys pulled up I was hesitant as too whether I should go or not, if they disliked me, why bother asking me to join them?

They're toying with you.

I sat in the kitchen and Alex closed the front door behind him - which confirmed it for me, I wasn't going.

The door opened again suddenly after only a minute and in strolled Grayson. He didn't say anything at first. Just slung me over his shoulder despite my protests and carried me out the door.

"Don't listen to Alex, Maxy. The boy is my best friend, but man he doesn't know when somebody is worth having around." So Grayson did like me. Alex Parker the little....Ugh.

I joined Kyle and Jace in the back who greeted me by forcefully squashing me between them and laughing. I smirked at Alex as he looked at me through the mirror with a scowl on his face.

That's right Alex Parker, you can't get rid of me that easily!

~~~
The boys headed into the changing rooms to prepare for the game and I took my seat in the stands.
During the car ride here, the boys had told me this was an important game. That if they lost, they'd be out of the league. That they were currently drawing with the opposing team.
As much as I hated Alex, I felt nervous for him. He was the captain of the team and that must have held a whole lot of stress.
Maybe that was why he was always a grumpy ass.
The school lacrosse team ran out onto the field, their lacrosse sticks at hand. All four of the boys were on the field among some others while some of the team made there way to the benches. I made eye contact with Kyle, who shot me a wink before sliding on his helmet.
Analysing the other teams players, I noticed many looked rather big and muscly.
Oh god, I hoped the boys would be okay. They were well built themselves, but not as big as them.
The game started and the ball was being tossed from one persons stick to another's as the teams charged together. At first, I couldn't tell who had the ball.
That is until Jace Samuels was charging at the goal and launching it at the net. Suddenly, people in the stands were cheering loudly and West Vales team were giving Jace high-fives.
Before I knew it, the half time whistle had been blown. The score was 2-1 to the opposite team. I made my way down the stands too meet the team who were taking drinks.
"You guys are doing so well." I offered a smile and praised them.
"We're losing Max." Alex replied, rolling his eyes. So much for being positive.
"Have a little faith Alexander." Grayson threw his arm around Alex's neck.
The coach called them over, only a few feet away from me, but they huddled. I stood and waited so I could wish them luck again before the start of the second half.
That was when I heard the whistle. I turned to face a rather good looking player from the opposite team.
"good luck kiss ?" He winked at me, his eyes raking up and down my body.
I swore if I had to deal with anymore snobs I would rip their heads off.
"Hmm that's unlikely." I rolled my eyes and folded my arms. "And don't whistle at me. I am not a dog." I turned my back too him.
The boys hand collided against my bum and I turned angrily.
"It's for good luck." His scent filled my nose with how close he was standing.
"Stop that!" I yelled at him looking up as my head reached only his shoulders.
"I lost my number, can I have yours?" He cornered me against the legs of the huge stands , getting closer and closer.
"Can you be anymore unoriginal? Where'd you find that? Facebook?" I spat. I honestly wished the game would start so this creep would get lost!
"Hey!" A bold familiar voice yelled and shoved the Pervy guy.
The guy turned his attention to Alex who was only slightly shorter than him. Alex's face was set angrily as the guy shoved Alex back.
"Hey What's your problem?!" The guy shouted and it only made Alex angrier. Why was he protecting me?
"Don't touch her! Don't talk to her! Don't even look at her! Got it?!" Alex and the guy were both stood way too close together, Alex's fists were balled and his jaw was clenched.
"That's yours?" The guy laughed in a mocking way. So I'm not even a person now? I'm a that.
"Yes. She is mine. Back off jerk before I kick your ass." Alex spat, giving the guy a dirty look up and down.
By then, Kyle, Grayson and Jace were stood beside me, watching intently.
"Yeah we will see about that out on the field!" This guy shouldn't mess with Alex Parker, He had fought too many people and had won every fight I could remember. It would be insane too mess with him.
"That a threat?!"
"Absolutely!"
Alex barely broke eye contact. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and steered us away from them, the boys following beside us.
"Are you okay?" Alex leaned in and whispered in my ear. I nodded quietly and he sighed in relief.
The whistle was blown and the fours boys among others, made their way to their positions on the field. I watched as each of them glared at the jerk from moments ago. He seemed to have piped down now that he realised the rest of the boys had Alex's back.
Yeah that's right, go quiet or get your ass whooped.
~~~

I waited for the boys to change again so I could congratulate them on their win.

After the incident with the jerk, Alex couldn't calm himself so he took it out on the goal. The score was 9-2 and as a bonus, the jerk broke his freaking arm! Jackpot!

"So did we impress you with our mad skills?" Jace, who rarely actually spoke to me, asked and wriggled his eyebrows up and down.

"Of course we did. Max loves seeing us babes run about getting sweaty, isn't that right?" Kyle smirked, playfully winking.

"Yeah! You know I actually kind of enjoyed the view...of the captain of the opposing team." I flashed an evil smile and Kyle's jaw dropped, his hand reaching to touch where his heart is. BURNNNN. AM I  RIGHT?!

"You're screwing with me." He laughed after a moment of trying to figure out whether or not I was joking.

Yes, my sarcasm had reached that point. I nodded, rolling my eyes at how long it took him.

~~~
"So when is your mum getting home?" Alex asked me, we sat at the dining room table eating a hot bowl of spaghetti while Elaine did the dishes.
This was the longest Alex and I had actually gotten along all week. The total of about nine hours.
"Uhm not until after we go back to school. Around three weeks." I glanced up at him and took a mouthful of the food. I didn't bother to even try eating lady like, this was Alex Parker whom I'd known my whole life. Alex Parker who I did not need to impress.
"What is she doing and where is she exactly?" I couldn't tell if he was actually interested or if he was just trying to make conversation.
He ignored my pig style manners completely out of habit.
"She's in Milan. She's got a fashion line emergency or something." I shrugged, not that interested myself. I was never really into fashionable things. I liked what I liked, whether it was in style currently or out.
"Oh an-" he began but was cut off by the slamming of the front door. We snapped our heads in direction of the sound and so did Elaine. I heard the quiet grumble of Thomas Parker's voice.
Alex's father hadn't been around all that much this last week and when he had, there wasn't much interaction.
Alex focused on his bowl of spaghetti and I did the same as Elaine scurried out of the room to talk to Thomas.
When I had finish my serving, I washed my own dishes so Elaine didn't have to and headed upstairs to my room.
I enveloped myself in my duvet, my arms peeping out to scroll through Facebook.
Since I had added the other three boys on Facebook, my notifications were constantly lighting up thanks to Grayson who decided to tag me in every video he liked after we had a rather long conversation the other day on our thoughts of the sneezing panda video.
Who would've thought the bad boy in all his bad ass glory had time to enjoy a video of a baby panda?
I scrolled through the 6 different videos I was tagged in, I had to admit he did watch funny videos, where he found them I'd never know.
The little message icon turned red and I felt no shame in admitting I couldn't click it fast enough. When it displayed Alex's name, I huffed.
The message read:
"You're always online."
...
"Can you be any lazier Alex Parker? Our doors are five steps away from each others!" I replied, he saw it instantly and so I watched the three dots that showed he was replying.
...
"Shut up cupcake."
...
"Stop calling me cupcake!"
...
"You don't like it cupcake?"
...
"Shut up. What do you want?"
...
"Too say goodnight of course."
...
"...Goodnight Alex..."
...
"Night cupcake."
