Chapter 19: The Bad Boy Is My Enemy (19)

The Bad Boy Is My EnemyWords: 14046

Two weeks later...

I huff loudly as my mum readjusts my hair for the tenth time, undecided on which curly locks are to be clipped up. Once she's finished, I powder my face, happy with my make up and the long light blue dress I had decided upon, despite the fact I hate dresses with a passion.

Ding dong.

My mother claps her hands in excitement and rushes downstairs to the door. I admit, I'm excited. I hear my mum welcome Alex and Elaine inside, both our parents squealing over how handsome Alex looked. I take one last glance in the mirror and head downstairs.

The first person I see is Alex, dressed in a black tux with a matching tie. His hair was styled messy, looking gorgeous and when he spotted me, his smile made the image perfect.

"Looking good Parker" I grin as I reach him.

"And I wish I could say the same about you" he winks and I laugh , swatting at him and scowling.

"Beautiful" he whispers and a smile forms on my lips. Our mothers then rejoin us, leaving their old conversation behind.

"Can you believe our babies are actually stood together and not biting each other's head off!" My mother fishes the camera out of the draw and hurries is into the garden.

"Who would have thought! Sixteen years of claiming to hate one and other and now they're prom dates!!" Elaine joins my mother with her camera in hand, both sharing big smiles.

I chuckle, rolling my eyes along with Alex. Our parents were thrilled when they found out we were dating. Of course, we played it cool. A movie date, he came to mine a lot over the past few weeks, I spent even more time at his. Suspicions were raised, blah blah blah.

Though the bet situation had definitely not being forgiven and Alex has a whole lot of making up to do, I think we can say not ripping each other's heads off had gotten slightly easier.

As for Jace and Tara, they broke up. Tara doesn't come around much anymore, understandably, Jace did cheat on her. That being said, Jace hasn't been around much either, he is mega pissed at Alex. He feels guilty for calling Jace out, I see it in his face when he spots Jace at school, who refuses to even talk to Alex, though he was at Grayson's the other night when Alex had to be elsewhere. He's hurt.

Jace didn't do much with the girl. A simple kiss that ruined their relationship. This is why parties and getting stoned are never the right option.

But, despite it only being one kiss. Tara hit rock bottom. She claimed she had enough of the lies, the constant jealousy she felt when she saw girls ogling over him. She was done. That was the last I heard from her.

It sucks, the group is partially torn up right now. With Alex and Jace not talking, Tara gone, it's not the same lately.

"Earth to Max!" My mother waves her hand in my face impatiently and I snap out of my thoughts.

"Okay pose for the camera kids!" Elaine looks through her camera and Alex and I smile. Though it seems it's taking everything Alex has not to groan and make a fuss over pictures.

"Put your arm around Max!" My mother demands.

"Mummmm!" I groan and get the death glare in return. After a few snaps of the camera, Alex and I are climbing into Grayson's car, who pulled up late, only moments ago.

"No prom date?" I ask Grayson, who speeds down the streets.

"Not yet" he mumbles.

Not yet? We are literally on our way to our school prom.

"It's okay dude, if plans fall through, Kyle's going stag" Alex places a hand on his shoulder playful and Grayson scowls.

"Hold up. Kyle Freaking McCall couldn't get a date?!" Impossible. Kyle is one of the best looking guys I have ever laid eyes on.

"Oh he could get one. He just didn't want one." Alex shrugs.

Within ten minutes, Kyle is in the car, looking as gorgeous as ever, and I'm questioning him on why he didn't want a date.

"Dates are hard work" he replies as we pull up at a house I've never been to before. I look at Grayson inquisitively as he hops out the car and heads up the path.

Grayson's POV:

My palms are sweaty as I head up the porch steps. I fix my hair and straighten up my tux, take a deep breath and knock on the door.

The door was jerked open rather quickly, a woman who looked in her early forties squinted her eyes at me.

"Hi, I was wondering if Violet is home?" She eyed me for a moment before turning and calling "Violet your dates here!!" And leaving the door open, returning to another room.

I stand awkwardly in the door way.

"Momma, I don't have a date!" She calls, confusion laced in her words as she runs down the stairs. She stops at the bottom and sighs, rolling her eyes. Ouch.

Violet Ainsworth, you look beautiful. Long blonde, straight hair, natural make up and a lovely long dress.

"What are you doing here?" She crosses her arms impatiently.

I take out the two tickets from my pocket and hold them up. "I asked you to consider going to prom with me" I say, she doesn't crack a smile.

"And I considered it, and I said no" she replies.

"Come on Violet! Why? Why can't I take you to prom?" I groan. I've been chasing this girl for almost a month now and she hasn't given in.

"I'm going with my friends." She replies. "I don't want to be involved with you or your friends Grayson. I don't want to be one of those girls"

"But you're not one of those girls." I tell her. "Listen, my friends are in that car " I point to it. "If you don't come with me, I'm going to prom alone. Not only that, they're going to keep reminding me I was rejected. Please" I smile hopefully as she groans, thinking it over before eventually  sighing and plucking a ticket out of my hand.

"Fine. How bad could it possibly be" she smiles a half hearted smile and closes the door behind us, following me to the car and hopping in the front seat.

~~~
Max's POV:
Grayson gets in the car, followed by a stunning blonde girl I had seen around school before.
"Guys this is Violet. Violet, this is Kyle, Max and Alex" I smile at her and she nods her head
"I know..isn't their usually another one of you? Jace?" She asks.
"Yeah...we don't know if he's coming to prom" Grayson answers and the conversation dies as we head to the school grounds.
Once we get there, the hall is already full of our year group, dancing , talking, having fun.
"Are we going to dance or are you not into that?" I ask Alex playfully, I honestly don't care if he doesn't dance, he does tonight.
"Soon" he smiled and laces his arm around my waist, bringing me closer.
"Poor Grayson" Kyle shakes his head, I look up at him confused then follow his eyes to Grayson and Violet. She seems completely uninterested and he seems overly interested.
"Max!" I hear Casey call me. "Max!" She yells again and I see my gorgeous looking friend rushing over to me. "Girl you look like a goddess!" She grins as she hugs me tightly.
"Me?! Look at you!" I squeal and hear Alex sigh behind me.
"Girls" he mutters.
"Well," Kyle speaks up. "Lovely chatting but I'm going to steal some other guys date" he flashes a smirk. "Catch you later...nice to meet you by the  way...um?"
"Casey" she smiles brightly.
"Right..." he smiles and turns on his heals.
"He talked to me!" Casey whisper yells and Alex scoffs.
"Don't get too excited love, he talks to a lot of people" Alex responds to which I lightly hit his arm.
"Leave her be" I warn and smile at my friend, who has already spotted a girl in her math class and is running in the other direction.
"So, dance ?" Alex holds his hand out as a slow song comes on. Oh damn, I'm cringing at the cheesiness. I take his hand as he leads me into the swarm of dancing bodies.
He placed one hand on my hip and keeps hold of my other and we are soon moving in rhythm with the song I have never heard before.
"Is prom how you expected?" Alex asks me as we dance.
I shake my head no.
"How so?" He asks.
"Never did I ever expect to be stood her with you tonight" I grin.
"Trust me cupcake, neither did I" he chuckles and I rest my head on his chest and we dance.
~~~

"You found a girl yet?" I ask Kyle, we are all sat around one of the small tables, taking a break from socializing and dancing.

He huffs and narrows his eyes. "Not yet"

"So Violet," Grayson tries to make conversations "are you enjoying prom?"

"it's been okay...I liked meeting Max" she smiles at me and raised her eye brow, smirking at Grayson. Damn she was really pushing his buttons.

No offence to her, she's lovely, but this girl is stupid not to want Grayson. Every other girl wants him. So why doesn't she?

"Alex and I are going to dance once more before the after party" I grin and Alex groans as I pull him up.

We are back on the dance floor, dancing to a more upbeat song this time.

"So you think Kyle can bag a girl by the end of tonight?" Alex asks, smirking.

I tut and frown. "One does not bag a girl Alex Parker...but Kyle can without a doubt get any girl in this room"

"Including you?" He asks.

"Especially me" I smirk and he frowns which makes me laugh.

"I'm kidding" I grin and reach up to brush my lips against his.

"I know" he mumbles against my lips. "If he even tried to get you" he shakes his head, dimples showing.

"Let's find everyone, we can head to the after party yeah?" I take Alex's hand, lacing our fingers as we head back to the now empty table. I scan the room, that's when I see Grayson and Violet rush through the doors, Violet's face flustered, alarmed.

"Dude we should go" Grayson tells us and on cue, Kyle comes into eye sight, heading over to us.

"What did you do?" I narrow my eyes, suspicious.

"Let's just say we pulled an end of year prank on Foreman" Gray smirks.

"Oh for god sake. The girl finally agrees to go out with you and you have her pulling pranks" Kyle claps slow for effect.

"I just needed someone to go with" Violet speaks, confirming that it didn't actually matter who she went with.

"It's fine" Gray shrugs. "We won't get caught"  Violet rolls her eyes and we head out to the car.

Violet and I walk slightly in front of the chattering boys "what did he make you do?" I sigh.

"Let's just say the less people know the better" she smiles and I nod.

"Trust me, there's no escaping being dragged into the trouble with these boys"

She nods and then replies. "Between you and me, Grayson's not so bad. But there's no way I'm letting onto that for even a second" she grins and I laugh along.

"The poor guy is jumping through hoops for your attention Violet"

~~~
The after party was pretty much like any other party. The stench of sweat and alcohol polluting the air.
Jace, who hadn't shown his face much all week, is spotted. He walks over to us, staring at Alex. Alex moves over to him and they engulf each other in one of those typical bro hugs.
"We're good?" Alex asks.
"We're good. You're still an asshole, but I'm the asshole that ruined my relationship, not you" Jace sighs, downing the remains of his beverage.
"Let's get wasted?" Alex grins.
Dancing, dancing and more dancing. Lots of alcohol, Kyle disappeared a while ago. I have no clue where Jace went, or Grayson and Violet for that matter. However, Alex has been glued to my side since the start. Getting slightly more drunk every passing second, which only meant sloppier kisses on my cheeks.
"Let's do something" Alex grabs my arm, looking spontaneous, he was always one of those who liked to go on adventures, but an adventure with a drunken bad boy couldn't be good...could it?
"Lets go" I smile and let him drag me outside into the cool night air, the moon is up and it's chilly.
Alex pulls out a cigarette and a lighter , placing it between his lips and sparking it to life. I frown at him and he eyes me.
"They aren't good for you" I mutter, though I know it won't make a difference.
"And I'm not good for you, but you're still here" he takes a drag of his cigarette and blows the smoke in the opposite direction, considerately, since a few weeks ago he wouldn't have hesitated to blow it in my face.
I ignore his comment, he's a bad influence, but he's good for me. I'm sure of it. "What do you want to do?" I ask, changing the subject.
"Something illegal!" His face lights up, probably as he thinks of the thrill of almost getting caught. Well, that's how he described it, i'd say it felt more like a constant nauseous feeling, almost like just before you vomit.
"For once Alex Parker, something else" I roll my eyes playfully.
"For once Max Carrington, be bad" he copies me. It was strange how things had changed, we still bicker and play but it's different. He's definitely still the most aggravating charmer to ever walk the Earth, but is he my enemy?
"Oh no. You are not dragging me into more trouble using that crap" I take the cigarette from his hand before he could place it back at his lips and I drop it to the floor, where it burns out. He frowns, but only momentarily.
"Fine loser" he rolls his eyes, taking my hand and taking lead, Ignoring my protests and questions.
He takes us up the hill not far from the party house, the music is in the distance and the house is still in our view. We sit down and I look up at the night sky.
"It's pretty" I state, gazing up at the star lit sky.
Alex leans back on his hand as he speaks "she thought the view was pretty, but I thought she was prettier" he can barely get through the poetic sentence without bursting into laughter. I roll my eyes.
"Shut up dork" I grin, turning to face him.
"I love you Max Carrington" he tells me, smiling the smile that every girl swooned over, but not me right? Or so I thought. Yet here  I am, butterflies in my stomach and the biggest grin on my face.
"I love you too...Alexander Parker" I grin , giggling as I know what's to come next.
"Do not call me Alexander!" He whines before pressing his pink plump lips onto mine.
