Chapter 42: ~41~Secret Date Night

OverprotectiveWords: 17023

The first half of the day was normal. Nothing spectacular happened, except for the small argument in the hall between two random people. Justin wanted so badly for them to fight, and honestly, I did too, but a teacher broke it up before it could escalate.

Now Anna, Lucas, Sarah, and I were seated at our usual seat. "Honestly, if they were to fight that would have been the highlight of my year," Sarah said. She and Aerial were talking about the almost fight since it happened.

"I know right! Like stupid teachers are always ruining the fun," Aerial said taking a bite out of her pizza.  She would have gotten fries, except they didn't have any.

"Sometimes I think they want the fight to go on, but they have to stop it so they won't get fired," Sarah replied, balling up her bag of chips. I tuned them out looking around the cafeteria once again.

I noticed that I hadn't seen Sally all day, and to be honest, I was starting to get a little worried. Knowing what I know now didn't help the situation. "Are you alright?" Anna whispered next to me. I nodded taking my mind off the subject for the time being. "Are you sure? Cause you haven't really been here today," she said looking at me.

"Yeah, don't worry about it. Just thinking about someone," I said continuing to eat my burger. "Okay, well after school we were wondering if you wanted to come with us to the park?" she asked. I nodded. "Sure. I can only come for a little. I have somewhere else to be," I answered.

Anna wiggled her eyebrows. "Ooh, might this be related to a boy?" she asked. Lucas rolled his eyes. I was still waiting for the day he actually speaks to me. Like a whole sentence with meaning, and actually keep the conversation going.

My probably tomato face gave me away. "Oh so it is, " she said poking my cheek. I swatted her hands away and gave her a playful glare.

"Would it happen to be the boy from that night we went to the cafe?" she asked giving me an all-knowing look.

I nodded sheepishly. She smirked at me in return. "I told you, " she said in a sing-song way. "Yeah, I know. You practically fortold it, " I said. "That's what I do best, " she said grinning.

Lunch went by and soon enough it was 6th hour. My favorite class ever. I hope you noted the sarcasm.

I went in and sat in my usual seat next to Lucas. Justin wasn't here yet, no surprise, so I decided to make conversation with Lucas.

"So, how has your morning been going?" I asked turning to face him. "Good."

I waited for him to elaborate but that never happened. "What about that almost fight? That was pretty funny right?" I asked chuckling nervously.

This kid hadn't even looked up at me. "Yeah, I guess." This conversation was clearly one-sided. I cleared my throat and turned back into my seat feeling more awkward than ever.

Was it something I did? Said? Is it the way I look? "Why don't you like me?" I asked turning around in my seat.

I don't want to seem desperate for his attention or anything, but I at least wanted him to like me. Even if it's just a little.

Just as he was about to answer the teacher interrupted. "Okay, class! I am talking now so that means all other conversations cease, " he said getting in front of the class.

"Is he a god now?" Lucas mumbled. I chuckled a little and cleared my throat when the teacher gave me a look.

Justin had still yet to arrive in class. He seemed to be running extra late today. As if someone read my mind he came strolling in through the door as if it was casual Friday.

The teacher sighed already seeming annoyed. "Care to explain, Mr. Johnson?" the teacher asked. "Nah."

The teacher sighed once again. "I figured, " he said resuming class. It was like Justin had immunity. "You can't just keep strolling into the class whenever you feel Justin, " I whispered once he sat down.

He rolled his eyes. "No one cares."

"Why were you late anyway?"

"Stuff."

I gave him look. "Pay attention to class Lisa, " he said pretending to take notes. "I can see you're not writing, " I said as he was clearly fake writing.

"Shh" he said. I glared at him and turned back to the front of the class. A note suddenly appeared in front of me. It came from Lucas so I opened it.

I don't not like you :)

I had to read it over about 3 times to understand what he was actually saying. I turned to look at him to see him looking straight ahead at the teacher, with a, oh my! A smirk.

I folded the note up and stuck it in my binder. The rest of the class consisted of me shoo-ing away an annoying Justin and trying to pay attention to the teacher.

"You are coming with us again?" I asked as Justin and I got into Dylan's car. Apparently, Grayson was tagging along. "You know seeing as though I only live a couple of houses down from you, wouldn't it make sense that I ride with you guys?" Grayson asked smirking at me.

"Or you can just walk, " I said rolling my eyes. "Ah, but where's the fun in that? I wouldn't get to see you, " he said ruffling my hair. I slapped his hand away. Hard.

"Dang, she hits hard, " he said rubbing his hand.

I decided not to answer and just ignored him. Then I remembered something. "Have any of you guys seen Sally?" I asked.

Dylan and Justin shared a look. "No, she must have skipped today, " Dylan said glancing at me through the rearview mirror.

I nodded. "And by the way, Johnathan is coming over tomorrow, " Dylan said referring to our Dad. I could see his hands slightly tighten around the steering wheel.

I nodded partly excited, partly nervous. My brothers didn't seem to have the best reaction towards him. I'm hoping in time that will change.

Once we arrived, Grayson and Justin went inside. I was about to follow when I noticed Dylan still in the car.

"Are you coming in?" I asked poking my head inside. He looked up at me. "Yeah. Can we talk for a little first?" he asked. I gave him a quizzical look but nodded anyway. I sat in shotgun and closed the door.

"You're not trying to get me back for some prank right?" I asked cautiously. If I needed to, I was making a mad dash out of this car. "Not now, I will do that later, " he said dismissing it. I rolled my eyes.

"Then what is it? There's food inside and I am hungry, " I said folding my arms.

"How much do you trust Sally's story?" he asked looking me dead in the eye. I froze at his question. "Why would you ask that? She is my best friend, of course I am going to trust her story, " I said. I was shocked that he would even ask that.

"Okay. But has it ever crossed your mind that maybe she could be lying to you?" he asked running a hand through his hair.

"Dylan! How could you ask that? She was obviously threatened. You can tell by her demeanor. I highly doubt that she would make up a story like that and be that dedicated towards it!" I was starting to get slightly angered.

"Maybe, but you didn't see what I saw. She had not one ounce of regret in her eyes when she left you after that argument that night at the party."

"Well then she must be really good at covering up her emotions, " I replied back. "That can go both ways. What if she is that good at covering up her lies?" he asked.

I hated to admit whenever he made a good point. I just looked away from him in the next direction.

"Lisa! You aren't thinking of everything!" he started, but stopped to calm himself down. "Just, I want you to just think of everything, okay? " he asked.

I rolled my eyes. "I already did, " I said opening the car door. "Are we done?" I asked. I did not want to be in the same space as him at the moment, and I definitely did not want to keep talking about this.

"Lis-" he started but was cut off by me slamming the door in his face. I stormed inside the house, not even bothering to greet Jason or Jacob who we're on the couch.

I did feel bad, but I would just have to make it up to them later. I went into my room, slamming that door too.

I didn't want it to be true, but Dylan made a fairly good point. Surely it would end up being a complete lie. I would have to ask Sally about it whenever I see her again.

But what if I was wrong? That would be a serious thing to assume someone is doing and to that extent.

I flopped onto my bed and screamed into my pillow.  I found online that it helps, but right now I didn't feel much different.

I was just so frustrated. I finally got my best friend back, and now I am hearing all of this talk about her story not being true?

I just wanted everything to go back to normal. All though we were never really there, it was good enough for us.

I got up from my bed and decided to text Anna. We were supposed to hang out after school today, and that's just what I need to get my mind off of things.

'What time do you want to meet up?'

I sent the text and waited for a response.

'Sorry! Can't today. We'll explain tmr.'

Are you kidding me? I flopped back onto my pillow. There goes that plan. I still have to meet up with Liam, but that's not till later tonight.

A knock on my door brought me out of my thoughts. If it was Dylan, I am going to scream again. This time not into a pillow. That might work better.

I reluctantly opened the door and was met with Jacob. Well, at least it wasn't Dylan. "Hey," he said softly, walking into my room.

I sat on my bed and he sat next to me. "What's the matter? I didn't even get a hello, " he said. I sighed. "It's just this entire Sally thing, " I said leaning into him. He was always so warm.

"Are you worried about her family? Cause we told you Jason and I will handle it, " he said starting to rub my shoulder.

I shook my head. "No, it's not that. It's just...Dylan thinks that Sally is lying. He says that her story might not be true. And I would hate to believe that she went through all of this trouble to lie to me. I mean we are best friend's. I doubt she would want to hurt me that way." I let all of my feelings out. It definitely felt better than screaming into the pillow.

"Alright, so you think Dylan is lying?" Jacob asked now playing with my hair.

"I don't know, " I groaned out, burying my face into his side. He chuckled but didn't move.

"Sweetie, I don't think Dylan would lie about something like that. And we all know Dylan, he is a special case, but I know he only has your best interest in my mind."

My silence cued him to go on. "Do you think any of us want you to get hurt? Especially if it means that it's by your best friend? Someone we all trusted?"

Jacob stopped so I assumed I was supposed to answer. "No, " I said quietly. "Then if what Dylan says is true, I wouldn't want you to be friends with her either. "

"I'm not assuming that she is lying, but I want you to have an open mind about it. Can you do that for me?" he asked.

I nodded. Like always, he made some very great points. I shouldn't be mad at Dylan for only trying to help. Now I really felt bad. Dylan was just looking out for me and I treated him badly.

I didn't want to cry again cause it seems I have been doing a good much of that lately.

Jacob moved my head out his side and made me look at him.  He saw my face then he hugged me, and that's when the waterworks broke.

Jacob rubbed my back comforting me. "It's okay Lisa. You don't have to cry. I am sure Dylan understands, " he said.

I nodded and tried to stop myself from crying.  "Thanks, Jacob, " I said sniffling and wiping my face.  "You know I am always here for you sis, " he said smiling down at me.

I smiled back at him and hugged him again. When he isn't pranking me, he can actually be a really good brother.

I definitely owed Dylan an apology. "Better now?" Jacob asked pulling from the hug. "Yep!" I said standing up.

"Good. Now I have to change my shirt. You got tears all over it, " he said smirking at me.

I smacked his arm. "Hey! That's not nice, " I said. "It's true, " he said as I pushed him out of the room. I playfully rolled my eyes as I closed my door and walked down to Dylans.

I hesitantly opened the door to see both Grayson and Dylan in the room. They both looked up at me when I walked in.

"Dylan, can I talk to you?" I asked looking at him. He nodded, not saying anything else. Grayson gave me a sympathetic smile as he walked out. He probably knows what it's about.

News sure does travel fast. I sat on Dylan's bed next to him. "I'm sorry I got mad at you, " I said nervously playing with my hair.

The silence was making me want to jump out the open window. "You don't have to apologize Lisa. I shouldn't have brought it to you like that. I know you just got your best friend back and you don't want to lose her again, " he said looking at me.

I slightly nodded. "But you have to understand I am only looking out for you. I'm not going to push it on you anymore, but I just want you to be on guard, that's all, " he said.

"I know. Jacob helped me to realize that. I'll ask her about it, " I said.

He nodded in reply. "That's good. You know I may not say it a lot, but I do love you, " he said smiling down at me.

Then his face changed to a grimace. "Okay, I am not saying that again, " he said as if it was a vile word.

"Oh come on. I know you do, " I said looking up at him. He sighed and folded his arms behind his head. "Yeah. I guess you're right. "

Standing outside in the dark and cold is not something you would think someone would surprise you with.

I was standing at the cafe in Liams and I special place. He blindfolded me and went to do something while I just stood there probably looking dumb.

What if I get kidnapped or something? This will be all his fault and partly mine for going along with this stupid idea.

I head some more shuffling around until finally, it stopped. It was super silent. "Uh, hello?" I asked looking around although I couldn't see anything.

"You can take it off now."

I screamed as I heard a voice right next to my ear. I took off the blindfold and glared at Liam. "Why would you do that?" I asked.

"It was just fun, " he said shrugging. I rolled my eyes but quickly stopped when I saw the sight in front of me.

There was a huge blanket covered with different desserts. "Since it's night I decided to do a picnic under the stars with all of your favorite desserts, " he said nervously.

"So do you like it?" he asked when I didn't say anything. I nodded not trusting myself to say anything.

He let out a sigh of relief. "Well, let's eat, " he said taking my hand and guiding me to the blanket.

There were so many different desserts. From oreo cookie dough ice cream to my favorite ever dessert.

"You got the triple chocolate goodness!?" I asked already diving for it. He chuckled at my eagerness. "I figured you would like that the most, so I got the most of it, " he said taking a red velvet cupcake.

"Where did you get all of these?" I asked. He nodded his head in the direction of the cafe. "The cafe?" I asked just to make sure.

He nodded. "So what, you stole from them?" I asked adding some more chocolate syrup to the cupcake. "Yes, I stole all of these delicious foods when Iwork there, " he said with a straight face.

I couldn't tell if he was kidding or not. "Don't worry, I am kidding. My boss let me do it. He just took the money out of my upcoming paycheck, " he said now munching on some Oreos.

I nodded, too distracted with the food. I'll just sneak him some money since I know he won't accept it. "Well, I need to meet your boss, because he is the best boss ever, " I said picking up yet another cupcake.

I plan on eating as much as I possibly can. Once we were mostly done we laid next to each other looking up at the beautiful night sky.

"You know we have been seeing other for quite some time, and I have really grown to like you...a lot actually, " he chuckled nervously.

I blushed at his words. "Yeah? Well I like you a lot too, " I said turning my head to face him. He was already looking at me.

"You have something on your nose, " he said pointing to my nose. I blushed and wiped at it. "Here I'll help, " he said using his finger to wipe my nose.

"Thanks, " I mumbled looking down. I was probably as red as you can get.

"You're cute, " he chuckled sitting up. I followed him and leaned my head on his shoulder. "You're cute too, " I said already knowing the response I am going to get.

He gasped and placed a hand on his chest. "That is not a manly word. I am not cute, " he said pouting slightly.

I kissed his cheek. "Ok, you're not cute, " I said smiling up at him.

He smiled down at me. "Good. Cause you are the only cute one here," he said kissing my cheek.

After about 10 more minutes we decided to head out. We packed everything up and got in Liam's car. I turned to him watching him as he drove down to my house.

"Thank you a lot, Liam. You made my entire day, " I said. He smiled showing his cute dimple.

He glanced at me. "I'm glad I did."
