Chapter 14

Fact no.13: That's my girl

and we hated

NOAH

I am waiting in the hallway, waiting along with Kai for the girls to finally be ready, so we can get going to the party. Cami told us the dress code is fancy, so we both wear tux, shirt and all that shit. I would rather go in a hoodie, but Kai made me swear I'll dress nicely for once. I know he mostly did it to please Cami, but I did it for him anyways.

As the girls come down the stairs from where they were getting ready in April's room, I thank the universe this party chose fancy as a motto.

April looks stunning.

She's drop-dead gorgeous.

She's wearing a beautiful black dress, that hugs her curves and body like it was especially made for her. Her brown skin glows in the sunlight, making her seem magical. Dreamy. Her curly dark hair is falling free, only styled that the locks don't snap out of place. She doesn't wear much make-up, but with April, she doesn't need any. The only make-up I see is some shadow on her eyes and a red lipstick. Nothing more.

She's stunning.

"Don't drool in front of her like a fucking idiot", Kai tells me while hitting me with his elbow in my ribcage.

I flip him off yet take his advice.

I'm a fucking idiot. And I'm drooling in front of her.

Immediately, I change my face expression into the one I usual put on in front of her. Stone-cold. Frozen. Untouchable. April's gaze falls on me, assessing my outfit once. She opens her mouth to say something, yet she then meets my eyes and whatever she wanted to say is forgotten. Just like that.

I know what I am. Fucking idiot.

April turns her gaze back to the top of the staircase, where currently Cami and Dia appear. The girls look pretty, but not as pretty as April. Cami is in a dark green satin long dress, her hair a bit wavy now. Dia next to her wears a similar gown, made of satin but purple. She has gloves of the same color and material reach her elbows and her hair was braided together and styled in a bun.

As I said, they look pretty.

But not as pretty.

"Can we go now?", I ask, merely to get my thoughts elsewhere. And not on the fact I'd like to throw that black dress off her and see her naked in front of me, so I can worship her body.

Elsewhere is better.

"Prick", April lets out when she passes by me and shows me the middle finger.

I grin at her.

So beautiful.

"Do you have something to say, Coin?", she adds, when noticing the stupid smirk on my face.

"Absolutely not, precious. Though, I'm glad to see your mood hasn't been affected by this change of looks. The world would suffer a great loss if April Davis would be nice for one night."

She seems to boil at my reply. Teeth clench and she forms her fist. However, that rage is quickly dampened by her taking a deep breath and letting out. "Well, the world would suffer a great loss if Noah Coin would suddenly be found dead one morning, no one knowing how it happened. Good to know hell has already a place reserved for you."

I let out a grin, showing off my teeth at her.

"Would you join me, precious?"

"No way. I'd rather be the one crying at your funeral, making sure I get away with murder."

"Cruel evil woman", I reply, although I start noticing I tell these words to often to her. I would rather tell her Beautiful magnificent woman, but I'm sure she would snap at that and her rage would unleash, actually killing me.

"Stupid asshole boy", she counters. She then turns around to the others, who have been smart enough to pretend to actually have a conversation and not eavesdrop. I know they have been listening all along. The proud smile Kai has on his face right now tells me enough. And that smile isn't for me. But for April.

"So, who's ready to party?", she asks.

~

We arrive at a mansion, the car rolling through the fancy iron gates and down the pathway. A valet takes the keys and helps with the parking. Cami takes Kai's hand, the two whispering weird cheesy things to each other the whole time. It's not like they haven't done just that the entire car ride until now. April takes Dia by her arm, the two smiling at each other when seeing the location the party will take place in. Left utterly alone, I slip my hands in my pockets and follow the others inside.

A woman serves us drinks on the hallway. I snatch a glass of champagne and pour the whole content in me at once. I have a feeling I might need it. The alcohol has no effect on me though. I've drunk far more at once in my life, leaving me even without the feeling of a burn or heat.

Great.

We walk to another room, the one from which loud music blasts, almost making the walls shake. The room is crowded, filled with people. Most of them same age as us, somewhere in their twenties. They all wear fancy gala outfits, the place screaming money. Gowns in all colors, tuxes, suits...Money. I'm basically craving my hoodie now.

A random woman with dark hair comes to Cami and the two hug and start speaking in Spanish. I turn to look at April, since she and Kai are the only ones who know Spanish from this group apart from Cami. Kai is too focused on being introduced by his girlfriend to the woman, so April is my last resort to find out what they're saying.

I look curious at her, and she immediately understands I am left at her mercy.

"They're saying how much of a prick you are", she teases me, yet her tone is serious. "Oh, wait", she adds. "Kai just added you're an asshole too. I'm so sorry, I guess the whole world will know now."

"Smart-ass", I reply, yet I am grinning at her.

Since she really is. She is smart and has a great ass. Smart-ass.

"Guess the world will know that too", is the last thing she says before she walks away from me, Dia next to her. The two wave at Cami and Kai and go explore the place.

I also make myself useful and find the bar. I order a glass of whiskey, since the champagne clearly didn't do the effect I wanted earlier. While I wait for my order, I see a blonde coming closer to me, putting her hand on my chest.

"Hola, hottie", she says, her accent clearly showing she's not from here.

I take a better look at her. Blonde hair, green eyes, a beautiful silhouette shown off by a rather short red dress. I could touch her if I wanted. One hand under her skirt would lead me to her panties. Just one move.

"Hey", I let out, my voice sounding more sensual than planned. The blonde smiles now.

"I haven't seen you around before", she adds.

"Me neither. I would have remembered you", I reply, already switching into flirting mechanism.

I have to stop. I am not fucking her.

Not when my heart clearly beats for April.

"Would you like to get out of here?", the blonde asks me. "Somewhere more...private?"

As tempting as that sounds, no. There's only one woman who will be touching me from now on. April. No other.

"I'm here with my best friend", I say as an excuse. She doesn't seem bothered.

"I don't mind. I'm sure we'll make it work."

That sounds gross. And mostly because Kai would never do that. He hasn't done it when I asked him in the past, and he would clearly not do it now, when he has a fiancée.

"I'm sorry. But no", I reply, my voice sending warnings. She senses this is the end of our talk. With a curse, she turns around on her heels and walks away.

I am almost done with this party and ready to head out, as a male voice calls me from behind: "Sir".

I didn't mind it at first, since no one ever calls me sir. But the voice insists so I turn, finding the bartender handing me my glass of whiskey.

I thank him and quickly take my first sip.

Better.

I pay for my glass and head off to find Kai.

My best friend is like swollen from the Earth. He is nowhere. And I mean it. I go around every room two times, more girls hitting on me on the way, all being politely declined, and find no glimpse of Kai.

It's a glimpse of someone else I see.

On the dance floor of one of the rooms, April dances incredibly tight with a guy.

He has his hands on her waist and her hands are wrapped around his neck.

He says something in her ear and she smiles.

She smiles.

For him.

He then leans in closer and kisses her, and she only pulls him closer. Their tongues start exploring each other like they just found Wonderland.

As they let go, she smiles again.

The music fades away and all I can hear is that voice inside me yelling That's my girl.

That's my girl.

I snap.
