Chapter Twenty Two

Forever Yours

Andrew's POV

Seventeen hours earlier

I was about to push open my room door but stopped when I heard Adrian talking, definitely on the phone, with Funke.

"Thanksgiving dinner?" He asked, surprise lacing his voice.

"Yeah, she needs to meet his family, officially and all that," Funke said from the other side of the line, obviously Adrian had put the phone on speaker.

"I see, how is she really? I know you keep telling me that she's fine but really? I'm worried," he really did sound worried.

"She's struggling and it hasn't been easy. I hear her crying at night and it's heart wrenching," I could hardly hear what Funke said, her voice was low. "I just wish all this can be over.'

"Me too. Wait you said you hear her crying at night, meaning you're not sleeping, nightmares again?" The concern in his voice showed just how much he loved her.

"Yeah," she sighed. "I've been taking the sleeping pills of late because it's just annoying."

"Do you need me to call your doctor?"

"No, the last thing I need is to get Victoria worried over me. I'll be fine Adrian, I promise."

"Just call me if you need anything okay?"

"Okay, I love you babe."

"I love you, take care of yourself alright, I'll be home soon."

"Bye."

I opened the door fully and stepped in, carefully, so the glass of orange juice I was holding wouldn't spill. "Hey," I gave Adrian the glass.

"Thanks," he smiled. "Were you listening?"

I sat on the floor of my room, "yeah I was."

"I'm really sorry bro," Adrian offered me a stiff smile.

"There's nothing to be sorry for. Your job is to join me to drink my misery away," I laid back on the wooden floor.

A moment of silence passed before I spoke again. "I just want to go home and get her out of Nigeria."

"Your father and her father will kill you," Adrian stated and it was the fact.

"Then I'll risk dying for her," I said and Adrian fake gagged.

"Stop it," he rolled his eyes.

"Oh please, if it was Funke I'm pretty sure that's what you'll do." I sat up using my hand to support my weight on the floor.

"That's where the difference between me and you comes in, I'll be quicker. If you were quicker earlier, none of this would have happened." He dropped the now empty glass on my desk before laying back on my bed.

"Who are you to talk about being fast? It took you four years to date Funke," I taunted.

"You know that's a different case right?"

"Yeah whatever," I laughed then laid back on the floor.

"But you promised to give her some space right?"

"I know, it's just hard knowing that she's going through it all alone and I'm part of the reason she's in pain," I heard my own heart breaking as I spoke.

After we had 'broken up' Adrian made me promise to give her the space she needs and it's been hard. Every day I wake up wanting to call her and hear her voice, I'm always one step away from boarding a plane back to Nigeria.

Some days I want to feel her right next to me and I feel bad that I can't but then I remember that she may be feeling the same way but Miles is there and then I feel replaceable. Those are the times when I'd take out my anger on anything and anyone close to me.

"I kind of understand Victoria's reasoning," Adrian sat up and faced me. "The more you guys push, the more life pulls you guys apart so why don't you just sit back and let it happen. If you guys are really meant to be, nothing's going to stop that."

I let his words sink in. He did have a point but I've grown tired of waiting for life to bring us back together, the time apart is killing me.

I was about to open my mouth to speak when my door flew open and in walked my mother. "Guys please come downstairs."

I looked at Adrian then we both shrugged and stood up, walking downstairs together. The living room was quiet save for the TV that was on. Dad was sitting on the couch and mum just joined him there.

"Yeah?" I asked when we were in the living room.

"Andrew I invited Lily and her family over for Thanksgiving dinner, just wanted to tell you and Adrian I hope you and your mother don't mind." Dad said and my eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets.

"Lily? Why the fuck did you invite her and her family?" I was almost yelling.

"Because it'll be nice to have them around, you get to know them and all," he shrugged as if he didn't just make me want to kill him.

I looked at Adrian in disbelief and he placed a hand on my shoulder. "It's no problem sir, please excuse us." He began to pull me to the kitchen and I let him.

"You need to calm down before you do or say something you'll regret," he warned.

My mum had invited Adrian and his mother over for Thanksgiving tommorow night and now saying he's inviting Lily and her family makes me want to kill him.

"I can't do it Adrian, stay and have dinner like everything is alright." I shook my head and began to pace the kitchen.

"What do you want to do then?" He folded his arms.

"I'm leaving, I can't stay here any longer," I shook my head and walked out of the kitchen, Adrian running after me.

"To where?" He asked but I didn't respond as I went upstairs to only pick my laptop and phone charger with some cash.

I put everything inside a backpack and I stormed back downstairs.

"Son is everything alright?" Mum asked when she saw me coming down the stairs.

"No, I'm going home." I answered simply.

"But this is your home," Dad joined in.

I shook my head, "no, home is with Victoria."

I walked out of the house and unlocked my car, throwing everything into the backseat of my car.

"Wait, I'm coming with you, I'll drive." Adrian appeared beside me and I gave him the car key. "But I'll have to pick somethings at home though."

"I don't understand, are you dropping me at the airport or you're coming with me to Nigeria?" I paused when I thought about what he was doing.

"I'm not going to let you do anything stupid Drew," he got into the car.

"Love you mum," I yelled before getting into the car.

I'm coming Victoria.

When we landed in Nigeria, it felt like home and I felt really closer to Victoria, it was as if j could feel her already.

Adrian had informed Funke when we were about to leave Chicago so she was waiting for us when we had landed.

"Now this is the Andrew I know, doing things without thinking," Funke taunted when she saw us.

She hugged and kissed Adrian while I just stood there, impatient.

"Shut up," I hugged her. "Where is she?"

"At Miles' house, she's got back from the dinner like ten minutes ago and she forgot her key so I told her to wait at his house that I'll pick her from there." She unlocked her car door for me so I got into the back seat while Adrian sat at the passengers seat.

"Why didn't you tell her where you were?" I didn't understand what she was doing.

"That would have been a stupid thing to do, she'll get angry with both you and me, all of us so we first need to get you home and relaxed then tommorow, you can see her." She answered.

I started laughing, "you really think I'm going to wait till tommorow?"

The couple shared a look, "that's the best thing to do Andrew, if you show up at Miles house with Funke, how do you think that is going to be?" Adrian tried to reason with me but I wasn't having it.

"I don't care, I just want to see her."

"And we're telling you now, this night, is not the best time. I promise you'll see her tommorow." Funke met my eyes from the rearview mirror.

I sighed, sitting back in my seat. "Fine."

"Good, now first, food and you better make it quick, Victoria is waiting for me."
