Chapter 11

Teases

Solomon Academy 1: Della

DELLA

The morning light nudges me awake, and I find myself surprisingly clear-minded. Yesterday was a lot, but I’ve decided to just take it one day at a time. That’s all I really can do.

I reach for my schedule and see divination at nine, history of the realms at one, and power training at three.

I decide to dress up and have some fun teasing Kade today. I slip a sexy pair of underwear on beneath my skirt, then rearrange my top to let a hint of my strappy bra peek through my button-down. I tuck my knife into a boot, and I’m ready to head to breakfast.

But I remember there’s something I still need to do first before I leave the dorm.

I leave my room and spot Micha, who looks less than thrilled to be awake.

“Good morning,” I greet him with a smile.

“Morning,” he grumbles back.

“So, I have to go yell at someone. You can come feed if you want, but don’t listen,” I tease.

Excitement lights up his copper eyes. “How could I ever say no to an offer like that?” He trails after me as I walk over to Oz’s door and knock.

Oz opens the door, looking surprised. “Um…h-hi, Della,” he stammers, trying to act casual. “How are you?”

“Don’t play innocent. I know what you did. I told you to leave it alone,” I snap.

“Come in. Please. Let’s talk about this inside,” he suggests, darting a nervous glance at Micha.

Micha stifles a yawn as he leans against the hallway wall. “Don’t mind me. I’m just here for a free meal,” he says with a sleepy smirk.

I walk into Oz’s room and see it’s the same as mine, but with red bedding instead of purple. I hear the door close, and then it’s just Oz and me.

“I was just trying to help. I felt bad that you had to leave everything behind,” he explains in a rush.

“I understand that. But you went behind my back to do it. You even lied to The Doctor. He pulled me out of class to yell at me.” I take a deep breath. “If I wanted you to know, I would have told you.”

“I’m still not sure what happened when we got there,” he admits.

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“I went to Dr. Tenn and asked him to help me bring the rest of your stuff. So we went through the portal to a…room? It was pitch black in the room, and when we walked out, it looked like a scene from a horror movie,” he confesses.

“It was an old asylum. That’s where I was staying. I don’t…have a place,” I explain. I see the moment he understands. “All I have is my backpack. That’s it.”

“Shit. I’m so sorry. No wonder Dr. Tenn freaked out. Did you know some homeless people died there? There were dead bodies at your place,” he rants.

“Yes. That’s what made you guys come get me. That was my surge of magic,” I admit.

“You killed them?” he whispers.

“Yes. It’s apparently part of my demon powers.” I shrug.

“No wonder you were so on edge when we found you… I’m so sorry. I overstepped,” he apologizes.

“I get that you were just trying to do something nice, so I won’t hold it against you. Next time, just talk to me. Okay?” I plead.

“You got it,” he promises, pulling me into a hug. “I’m here for you, okay? Next time, just talk to me,” he echoes, making me laugh.

“You got it. I’m heading out now. I’ll see you at breakfast,” I say, heading back through the door.

The hallway is empty, and I can’t find Micha. Oh well. He probably got hungry and headed to breakfast first.

Sure enough, Micha is already in the cafeteria when I arrive. I grab a water bottle and a yogurt with fruit—it must be healthy, right?

“Everything okay?” I ask as I slide into the seat across from him.

“Are you and Oz a thing?” he blurts out. I’m taken aback. Oz was open with me, but I don’t know if he’s come out to everyone yet. Shit.

“Um…no? He’s into someone else. And I’ve firmly placed him in the friend zone. Why?” I respond.

“You guys just seemed really close…,” he trails off. His aura flares green. I can’t remember what that shade of green signifies from the aura guidelines he gave me. I’ll have to memorize that. It could be useful.

“Who were you getting close with?” Oz chimes in, his interest piqued. I notice Sorin taking a seat next to him.

“You,” I retort with a smirk.

Oz throws his head back and laughs heartily. “No. She doesn’t do it for me.” Oz wiggles his eyebrows at Micha suggestively.

“Oh! Got it,” Micha says, blushing.

“All good. I don’t really advertise it. She didn’t tell you?” Oz looks at me, confused.

“No.” Micha shakes his head.

“I’m not going to out someone. It’s your business. If you want someone to know, it’s up to you,” I say, dismissing the topic with a wave of my hand.

Oz pulls me into a one-armed hug. “Thanks,” he whispers.

“Della, are you still hiding from that punisher?” Micha asks.

“Yes. Is he here?” I ask, a playful smile on my lips.

“Yep, he’s pacing the door.” Micha chuckles.

I glance over and sure enough, he’s pacing near the door, scanning the hallway for me. He looks a bit unhinged. This is going to be fun. “Is there a second exit?” I ask, scanning the room.

Oz snorts but points to the back corner. Perfect.

“Thank you.”

I catch the punisher’s eye and flash him a smile. He shakes his head and starts prowling over as I get up and walk out the door.

“Holy shit!” I hear Oz exclaim, just before the door closes behind me.

I sprint down the hall and fling a door open, but I don’t go through it. Instead, I turn the corner and then another before I hear the cafeteria door open.

“Little demon…,” I hear Kade growl, sending shivers down my spine. I duck into an alcove and wait for him to pass before yanking him in with me.

His eyes light up with excitement as I pull him closer. I trace a finger down his bronze throat.

“I caught you. That means I get to tease you more,” I say with a grin. He groans as my fingers trail down his chest. I unbutton my shirt to reveal the sheer, strappy red bra I’m wearing. “If you want to see more, you’ll have to catch me,” I whisper.

“You are going to break me. I already had to take care of myself twice last night and once this morning,” he groans.

I lean up and kiss him. “Then you’ll just have to try harder to catch me. I promise I’ll take care of you when you do,” I whisper against his lips.

He lets out a frustrated growl and grabs my ass, pressing his hardness against my stomach.

I let out a quiet whimper. “We better get to class,” I say, licking his lips.

“Fine,” he growls. I would feel bad if I didn’t know he enjoyed it so much. “Oh. Thanks for the hickey. The whole dorm is trying to figure out who I’m seeing.”

“Do you want another?” I tease.

“Surprise me,” he says, gripping my ass again. “Are you wearing anything under that?”

“Yes. It’s just small. I know you like tiny teases,” I reply with a smile.

“God help me, I do,” he growls. His hands on my ass suddenly turn gentle, and his face softens. “How are you feeling after last night?” he asks, his voice tinged with concern.

“I’m okay. Still processing, but teasing you is keeping me sane,” I say with a smirk.

“Happy to be of service.” He chuckles. “We better go. I’m gonna catch you after class.”

“Sounds good.” I button up my shirt and walk with Kade to class.
