Madeline followed behind Carter and started to feel nervous.

This man was still a mystery to her. In addition to that, she had no idea why he wanted to investigate Jeremy.

Now, he had said something so weird and Madeline had no clue what was going on.

After walking for a bit, Madeline followed him to the French window on the second floor.

The window was huge, so one could get a nice view here.

When Madeline looked out, she saw a familiar car parked outside the front door of the manor.

‘Jeremy!’

Madeline screamed out his name in her heart. However, she could only pretend to be confused on the surface.

“Mr. Carter, you said you’re taking me to see the actual situation, so what’s the actual situation?”

Carter looked at Madeline’s confused face and lifted his dark eyes. Then, his gaze landed on Jeremy’s car.

“Do you not see the car parked outside the door?” he asked, his voice sounding nonchalant. “He followed you all the way here. Did you not notice him?”

“…” Madeline shook her head. She truly had not noticed Jeremy following her.

If he really followed her all the way here, then did he know about her going to Adam’s place?

“You said he let you down back then and even married another woman named Eveline Montgomery, so you want to get revenge on him. However, I can see that he’s pretty concerned about you.”

“He gave you an umbrella when he saw you in the rain. When you were in danger and almost got suffocated by the thug, he ran over to save you. Now, he secretly followed you to protect you.”

“I think he cares about you and didn’t play with your feelings like you said.”

“If you’re fine, you should go back to Whitman Manor.”

“Will he stop me if I go out now? What if he asks me why I’m in such a beautiful manor? What should I tell him?”

Carter placed his hands in his pockets and looked at Madeline as if he was in deep thought. Then, he said to the entourage next to him, “Invite him inside.”

“…” When Madeline heard this, she was stunned. ‘Is this man seriously inviting Jeremy inside?’

“Mr. Carter, I don’t think this is a good idea.” Madeline stopped him immediately. “Why don’t I leave?”
