Chapter 11

11. Band

My Neighbor (GirlxGirl)

Alex's POV

I open my front door still flustered from the interaction I had with Eve. It was so awkward. And I'm so mad at Neil.

"You're so annoying." I glare at him as the three of us make our way to the kitchen

"God it's not that deep" He rolls his eyes at me which annoys me even more

"Would you stop?? I'm asking you kindly to not let Eve know about my stupid crush or whatsoever. I don't want her to hate me. It's not funny." I say while opening my fridge and I can notice by his silence that he is starting to feel bad

"This isn't just some stupid milf moment, is it?" Neil asks me, wanting my honest answer. The whole time Sam is wandering around my living room, not giving a flying fuck about the conversation we're holding, which I'm grateful for

"It's not." I admit

He nods and seems to hesitate on his words : "Did something happen or?" He asks

I take a deep breath and see Sam listening to us now. "Yes. I tried something and she said no. I don't want to disrespect her anymore, or think of her like that for that matter. So let's just forget about it." I say embarrassed and pour cereal and milk into a bowl

"Alex I think she cares about you" Neil says.

He usually knows when to not push my boundaries but he is just being plenty annoying now.

"You don't know anything Neil. She's nice to me because I'm their neighbor and get along with her kids. That's all there is." I say

Sam interferes "Actually.. I saw the way she looks at you. It's not something that you find everywhere. I tend to notice these things. Indigo child and all." He says, seeming sincere

"She's just a really-" I say but get cuff off

"If you're about to say she's just a really warm person, yes but the way she looked at you was different." He says while picking a guitar pick from the floor

"You play?" He asks me. I nod. He suddenly gets super excited, leaving me wondering what he meant about Eve a second ago.

Did she really look at me differently? I have noticed a couple slyly unusual feelings in her eyes but we have many unusual moments.. there should be an explanation.

"What guitars do you have?" Sam says excitedly

"Have a fender strat upstairs, don't touch the telecaster though because it's broken." I say and Sam's eyes grow wide as he rushes upstairs. I laugh as he reminds me of Neil when I first told him that I had a fender.

Once Neil and I are alone downstairs I finish eating my cereal when he hugs me.

"Ew" I say at the sudden affection

"I'm sorry about what I said about Eve. I didn't know she was so important." He says

"It's fine but did you not hear what I just said? She's not important" I say, trying to persuade myself

"Whatever you say sis" he breaks away from the hug and joins Sam upstairs. I sigh. Typical Aries behaviour.

As I make my way upstairs, I hear shredding. Wow. I know that Neil doesn't play that well but Sam?

I open the door to my bedroom and see Sam completely lost in the world of the electric guitar on his lap. He's playing blues with his eyes closed and Neil looks at him in shock.

"Dude how did you learn how to play like that" Neil asks with wide eyes

"Been playing since I was five man. Alex this is sick. And so pretty." He says while looking at my beige and brown strat.

"It belonged to my mom" I say softly. This guitar means so much to me and I would rather die than loose it or break it.

Sam gently places the guitar on my bed and looks around my room some more as his eyes lay on my black bass. He rushes to it like a baby on fire and asks me for permission with his eyes. I laugh and let him play. He plays a funky riff.

"I love this" He says

"How many instruments can you play" Neil asks him

"Uh.. piano.. guitar.. bass.. a little sax... flute.. and drums." Sam thinks, probably missing an instrument

"That so cool. I can play drums best and a little guitar." Neil says

"That's so cool man, where's your drum kit?" Sam asks

"At my house I'll show you later" Neil says and Sam agrees

"Alex what about you" Sam asks me

"Oh only guitar and a little bass. I haven't played piano in years." I say

"And she sings very well" Neil adds, making me slightly embarrassed

"Nop, not true" I say

"Liar." He glares and turns to Sam "she's a really good singer" He says

I sigh knowing he is probably going to make me sing at some point.

"Guys why don't we.. make a band" Sam suggests and I laugh at the idea

"We should. We need a singer tho." I say, knowing I'll be the guitarist if we happen to make a band someday.

"You sing or I'll make you serenade under Eve's door" Neil jokingly threatens

I roll my eyes and sit on the floor of my tiny room.

All this music talk makes me remember about what I promised Cindy. I don't want her to think I have forgotten.

"Guys.. why don't you go to Neil's so he can show off his drum kit.. I have something important to do." I say and stand up

"Are you actually going to serenade Eve you dumbass" Neil says

"No." I roll my eyes "I promised her daughter I'd get her to a record store. But it's far.." I say

"You can borrow my car" Sam says and gives me the keys to his Porsche. I have my licence but never borrow my dads car because he always uses it for work.

"Are you sure?" I ask Sam, super excited

"Oh well, if you get into a car crash it will be a first" He says sarcastically and I laugh as I leave out the door.

I feel this growing pit in my stomach at the thought of seeing Eve, although I'm there for Cindy. I open my front door and close the street to the Spencer's house.

I knock on the door but notice it's slightly open. Someone probably forgot to close it. I make my way inside the house hesitantly. Wouldn't this be breaking a boundary? Am I breaking in? Harvey would be so mad if he sees me.

"Hello?" I say but nobody replies. I make my way upstairs, knowing the kids are probably in their rooms.

I make my way to Cindy's room, hoping it isn't too weird that I'm randomly picking her up. I'm not even thinking about Eve anymore but about Harvey if he happens to find me here.

Suddenly, I hear a sound coming from the masters bedroom. I turn around and come closer, knowing I shouldn't. I feel pulled to this room and can't hold back.

The sound comes back, this time I recognise Eve's voice.

She's moaning.

I take a deep breath, knowing I definitely shouldn't be here now. I am now standing on the other side of the big white door.

I hear Eve mumbling words like "harder" and deeper groans, coming from Harvey.

I close my eyes. I need to see her. The beautiful sounds escaping her mouth mix themselves with my own thoughts as I hold onto the door.

"Alex?" I hear a voice say and quickly open my eyes. Cindy.
