Chapter 18

18. Why now?

My little mate, aria

Aria

A baby cry sounded the room making me wake up from my sleep. As I sat up, the cries stopped and I looked around the room. Christian wasn't in the bed next to me so I gathered he checked on our son. I got up and went into the nursery to see Christian standing there with his arms up. He turned around and smiled at me holding a little body against his bare chest. After a while, Christian layed Cj back down and came over to me. "I could have got him," I whispered. "I was up anyway," he replied. We both went back to our room but made sure to keep our room door and Cj's door open. It didn't take me long to go back to sleep since I was tired. Having a son three weeks old was tiring. But it was amazing to wake up to a little happy face in the morning.

At around 4am, Cj started crying again. I got up and went into his room to see a tall, dark figure over Cj. My heart dropped when the guy turned around. His face was very similar, I couldn't put my finger on it but he I felt as we had met before. "What are you doing?" I asked carefully. "I have come to see what everyone has been talking about," the man replied. He kept his eyes on my son while he spoke, not making any moves. "What are you talking about?" I gulped trying to get closer. "The new alpha of this pack. He looks like someone I know. Well, used to since he's dead," the guy sounded angry. "I've never seen you before, so how can my son look like someone you know?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "This man died when I was young. Him and his wife killed by rogues because everyone was caught off guard. Some little princess' birthday party. See where I'm getting at here?" He still kept his back to me. "No I don't. The only people I know that were killed by rogues were my parents and old pack. They died when I was five," I replied. "Now I get it, you don't remember me," he chuckled. "Am I supposed to?" I could feel a lump in my throat and tears almost falling. "Remember that time when you couldn't sleep because of a thunder storm. You ran into a certain someone's room just so you could talk and wait out the storm?" He laughed lightly. "Vaguely. It was with someone that was close to me. He died when I was three," I could feel a stray tear fall. "Is that what they told you?" They guy sounded dark. "Who are you?" I asked keeping my distance. Not only for my safety, but the fear of this mysterious guy harming my baby. The guys turned around slowly then revealed his face. It was a face that made my heart drop to the floor. My breathing got quick as tears filtered down my eyes. I didn't hesitate to run into his arms and hold him tight. "I can't believe your here," I sobbed. "Only for you," I could hear the smile in his voice. I didn't have to look up to know how big that smile was. "They told me you died. Where were you?" I looked up at him. "I was sent away because I was a little shit causing problems to the pack members," he chuckled. "How did you find me?" I asked. "I never left. I've kept an eye on you since that day. When I was able to come back. I saw a group of guys walking around so I followed them to this place. I found you with the alpha so I knew you were safe, but I never let any harm come to you when you were alone," he smiled down at me. I hugged him again, putting my face into his chest as we held each other. A certain scent filled the room making me turn around. For some reason, Christian didn't seem angry, when another male touches someone's mate, he growls and fights them off, but Christian was calm. He gave a small nod and left the room. "I better get going. I'll see you around aria. But for now, you have other people to care for," he hugged me and kissed my head. When we pulled apart, he walked over to the window and jumped out of it, shifting mid air. He ran into the woods leaving me, but a smile formed on my face knowing he'd be back.

I climbed into bed next to Christian and he pulled me into him. "You didn't get angry," I muttered. "Why would I?" He asked. "Because he was touching what's yours," I looked up at him. "You were his before you were mine. I would never be angry at you and him," Christian smiled. "How did you know?" I sighed. "I've known him since you got here. He told me how much you meant to him and that I should keep you safe. I know he's been looking out for you ever since. There was a couple times I had walked into your room and caught him watching over you, he said that he didn't want anyone to come in and hurt you," Christian eyes softened. "He always did it on the nights you were able to sleep without coming in here, no matter what, he was always there to protect you. Even though he couldn't shift, he was there ready for a fight. There were times I would come back from meetings late at night to see him carrying you up the stairs because you fell asleep on the sofa watching a film. There is a lot of care and love that he has for you, I can always count on him to be there when I can't," he explained. "Why didn't you tell me?" I questioned. "He found out that your mum and dad told you that he died. Since you were little it wouldn't make sense so we kept it from you. There were multiple times where you almost caught us talking in my office but he managed to hide. Sneaky guy but is very trustworthy. That's why I didn't get mad when I saw him hugging you. Because I know how much it means to you to see him again," he kissed my head. "Thanks, it's good to know I still have someone other than you or the guys," I smiled a little. My damn older brother coming back to me. All the vague memories of him coming back, but he was still my brother Kole.
