Arrested
Dealer's Girl
Madi POV:
I didn't talk to Lexi for a week. I was too angry. She texted me over and over but I ignored her texts every time.
Graduation was about a week and a half away. I sat in the lunchroom as everyone was talking.
"Everything okay?" I heard Jack ask.
"What? Oh, I'm fine." I waved it off, taking a sip of my water.
"You just seem off. You get wasted at a party you didn't want to go to then you're all sad and I haven't seen Lexa around at all." Jack said.
"Where's your girlfriend?" I asked, not wanting to talk about my problems.
"Flora? She's not my girlfriend." He shook his head. "Where's yours?"
My jaw clenched. "She's not my girlfriend."
"I thought you two kissed at prom?" Jack furrowed his eyebrows.
"Hey, Jack." Liv spoke up and we both looked at her. "Stop digging into Madi's personal life."
"I was just making conversation." Jack told her.
"Lexi and I aren't on speaking terms anymore. That's it." I finalized the conversation.
"Lexi? You mean Lexa." Jack questioned.
"Lexi, Lexa, same thing." I shrugged.
"She did something, didn't she? Did she hurt you?" Jack sounded really interested now.
"Not physically." I muttered.
"Don't worry, she'll get what's coming for her." Jack said and before I could ask what that was supposed to mean, the bell rang and lunch was over.
After school I sat on my couch as I looked online for a job after I graduate. It wasn't as easy as I thought. I could work full time at Hazel's café. Or maybe I could-
My head snapped to the window as I heard tons of police sirens. What in the world?
I moved my laptop off my lap and ran over to the window.
About five cop cars drove down the street, they turned onto a road I knew best.
I put on my shoes before running out of my apartment building. I ran to follow the cars as I saw them parked out of a building.
No.
It was Lexi's building. I stood back as I watched a bunch of officers go into the building. What is going on? Is she okay?
Yeah, she was okay because she was being led out of the building in handcuffs.
Before I could wonder what she did, I saw what the officer was holding. Drugs.
She was caught.
But how? How did the police find out?
Don't worry, she'll get what's coming for her.
Jack.
I immediately called Liv.
"Madi? What's up?" Liv answered.
"Where does Jack live?" I asked.
"Uhh, why what's wrong?" She questioned.
"I think he got Lexi arrested." I answered.
"Lexi?" Liv asked.
"I'll tell you everything. You can bring Lizzie too. I might need backup." I said.
I paced my apartment as I waited for Liv and Lizzie. The second I heard a knock at the door I ran over to it and there stood Liv and Lizzie.
"Hey, girl. What's going on?" Lizzie asked.
So I told them everything.
Lexa being Lexi. The foster home. Lexi running away. Us meeting. The picture.
Everything.
"Wow." Lizzie nodded to herself when I finished.
"And you think Jack ratted her out because he's obsessed with you?" Liv asked.
"I wouldn't put it like that, but yeah." I nodded.
"Oh, I wanna kick his ass." Lizzie cracked her knuckles.
"I knew he's been off. Even before you came he's always been...weirdly possessive." Liv shuddered.
"I think he's a psychopath." Lizzie agreed.
"Don't be mean." I told her.
"No, I'm serious. Flora kinda reminds me of you. Did you see how he was with her all during prom? Weird. Grabby. Creepy." Lizzie stared at me.
She was kinda right. He has been off.
"I think he's on something." Liv spoke up.
We looked at her.
"His pupils were dilated at lunch. I swear he's taking something. Not even like 'high' like hardcore shit." Liv looked between us.
We were all silent as we thought of our next move.
"Hey, Lexa, or Lexi, wouldn't confess to being a drug dealer, would she?" Lizzie was staring at me.
"Uh...she would probably stay silent if I had to guess." I guessed.
"Why? What are you thinking?" Liv looked at Lizzie.
"If they want a drug dealer, why don't we give them one." Lizzie smirked.
Oh that smirk looked very deadly.
And I liked it.
"I have an idea." Liv agreed.
They both looked at me, waiting for some kind of agreement.
"Tell me." I nodded.
Liv had a great plan. They knew where he lived so we were gonna break in. Now, it wouldn't be that simple so Matt and Chase are gonna call Jack to hang out. When he leaves, we're gonna climb in through his window. Apparently they've snuck in his house before, but Jack was there.
There were so many variables. His parents could be home. His window could be locked. Someone could be in his room. Neighbors could see us.
"Madi." Liv spoke up.
The three of us were dressed in black as she drove to his house. It was dark out so hopefully no one would see us.
"Yeah?" I answered.
"Everything will be fine. We'll get your girlfriend out." Lizzie looked at me from the front seat.
"She's not my girlfriend." I reminded her.
"No, but you love her. She's your best friend. I'm not trying to defend her, because what she did was a real shitty thing, but maybe she was just nervous to see you after all that time. I think you two need to have a really good talk." Lizzie smiled.
"And preferably not from behind bars." Liv added as she stopped the car a couple houses down. "That's his house."
There were no cars in the driveway and no lights on in the house.
"Let's just hope his parents aren't home." Lizzie said as we got out and slowly crept towards the house.
"What if there's nothing inside?" I asked.
"Then we say how we've been getting drugs from him. That he's the real dealer." Liv said.
We made it to the backyard.
"Okay, this is how we do it. You're gonna stand on the trashcan and jump until you reach the roof. Pull yourself up and then we'll open the window and go in." Lizzie explained. "I'll go first."
Lizzie did exactly as she said and began to pull herself up onto the roof. Liv and I pushed her legs up so she could get on. Liv went next and then I was last.
We were all crouched on the roof with two windows in front of us. Thankfully, trees covered the yard so hopefully no one could see us.
"Everyone got their gloves on?" Liv asked.
We nodded.
"I can't believe I'm doing this." I whispered.
"Isn't it fun?" Lizzie smirked.
"Shut up, Lizzie. Open the window." Liv nudged her best friend.
Lizzie pulled at the window but it wouldn't budge. "Shit."
"He really locked his window? I'm shocked." Liv muttered.
Then Lizzie began to laugh. "I'm just kidding." She opened the window.
"I'm gonna throw you off the roof." Liv warned.
We crept inside and looked around.
"Okay, now what?" I asked. The door was shut and the room was kinda messy.
"Search for drugs." Lizzie turned to the desk.
"I got the closet." Liv opened the closet doors.
I guess I get the bed. I opened the bedside drawers.
Condoms, magazines, lotion.
Ew.
I shut that drawer and moved to the next.
College pamphlets and soccer certificates.
I lifted the mattress on the bed and froze.
"Oh my God." I whispered.
"What?" Liv stood by my side and stared at the same thing I did. "Holy shit, Lizzie, look."
Lizzie stood on my other side. "Holy mother of God."
There sat a bunch of pills in bags. And there were a ton of bags.
"Do you think they're all his or could he be selling them?" Lizzie looked at us.
"I don't know. But it's evidence." Liv smiled a bit.
"Wait a minute." Lizzie walked over to the shelf above the bed and grabbed a vase. "This is from my house."
"What?" Liv asked.
"Remember, my Mom was complaining it was missing. Dad bought her another, but still, this is from my house. And this!" Lizzie picked up what looked like an egg. "This is a Faberge egg. It was twelve thousand dollars."
I forgot how rich her parents were.
"No wonder he stopped inviting us over." Liv muttered.
"Okay, we have evidence of drugs and theft, but how can we tell the police? We can't say we broke in." I spoke up. Lizzie sat on the ground as she leaned against Jack's desk.
"We can do an anonymous call?" Liv guessed.
"Can't they track our phone?" I asked.
"We can do one of those payphones." Liv added.
"Uh, guys...?" Lizzie spoke up. We looked at her. She was staring at Jack's desk, specifically the bottom of it.
"What?" Liv questioned.
Lizzie reached up and pulled out a piece of paper. "Jack was definitely the one who called the police on Lexa."
"What is that?" I asked, walking over to her.
Then I saw it.
The top says 'Lexa's layout'. He wrote exactly where the drugs were hidden in her house.
"If the cops search his room and find this, maybe they'll think he planted them." Liv smirked.
"He really is psycho." Lizzie muttered.
Our heads snapped up as we heard a car outside.
"Shit, Chase just texted they're here." Liv whispered.
"Do they know we're here?" I asked.
"No." Lizzie shook her head.
We heard footsteps coming up the stairs.
"Put that back!" Liv whispered.
"Where do we go?" I panicked.
"In the closet!" Lizzie shoved us there and shut the doors.
I looked through the shudders. The bed was in its place but the window was still open.
"The window!" I pointed.
"There's no time!" Liv tried to grab my arm but I ran out of the closet and climbed out of the window before shutting it.
I hid my back against the wall as I stood as still as possible. I tried to control my breathing and I really tried not to fall.
I wasn't sure how long I was standing there but I heard the window open and snapped my head to the side.
It was just Lizzie and Liv.
"Thank God, I thought you were gonna get caught." Lizzie panted, shutting the window behind her.
"Alight, let's do this." Liv climbed off the roof. I went next and Lizzie was last.
The three of us ducked as we ran all the way back to the car.
When we got inside we were silent. Then Liv began to laugh. Then Lizzie and I found myself laughing too.
"Holy shit, I can't believe we just did that." Lizzie laughed.
"My heart is racing!" Liv started the car and began to drive.
"That was...actually really fun." I laughed.
"Great, we're corrupting Madi." Lizzie smiled.
"Maybe I needed a little 'corrupting' in my life." I leaned back against the seat.
"Your 'corrupter' is currently in jail. Let's get her out and bring her home." Liv smiled at me in the rearview mirror.
A couple minutes later, Liv pulled up to a payphone near a gas station.
"There aren't any cameras at this one so no one will see us." Liv added.
"Who's gonna call?" I asked.
"I will. I'll say I'd like to anonymously report drug possession. I'll give them Jack's address and tell them I believe he tried to frame an innocent girl because he's a homophobic jealous asshole. And! And that he's a thief because he stole someone's Faberge egg." Lizzie smiled brightly and looked between us for confirmation.
"Yeah, that's perfect." Liv nodded.
"Okay, BRB." Lizzie was skipping to the phone.
"Should I be scared of how excited she is?" I questioned.
"Nah, she's always like that." Liv waved off.
When Lizzie came back she smiled. "The operator said she was sending police there now. Are Chase and Matt gone?"
"Yeah, they texted they left like a couple minutes after we did." Liv nodded.
"I really hope it's enough to get Lexi out." I whispered.
"Hey, if it's not. I'm prepared to frame him for my murder." Lizzie looked at me and I smiled at her.
"Thank you, guys. I know he's your friend and all-" I began.
"He's not my friend anymore." Liv cut in.
"I stopped being his friend around Christmas." Lizzie added.
We laughed.
"Seriously. Thank you." I smiled.
