BETA XAVIER

Eleanor’s phone was inside the box, but it was smashed and splattered with blood. With trembling hands, I took it out and brought it closer to my nose.

It was Eleanor’s blood.

~What have they done to you, my love?~

My eyes pooled with tears. The phone dropped from my hand and fell to the floor.

I took out a lock of her hair, and there was a piece of paper inside as well. I took it out and unfolded it to read.

~It’s so sad that you won’t see your mate again, Beta Costa. So, that’s why I sent you a lock of her hair along with her phone, which you can keep as a memory.~

I crushed the paper and dropped everything to the floor.

I held her lock of hair and fell to the ground.

“Xavier.” Marquez held my shoulder, but I stayed on the ground.

“We will find her before anything happens,” he reassured me, but I just stayed on the ground.

Silent tears rolled down my cheeks.

“It’s all my fault,” I mumbled.

“No, it’s not, Xavier,” Marquez said, but I shook my head.

I wiped away the tears and got up from the floor. I’m not going to let anything happen to Eleanor or the baby.

“Where are you going?” Marquez yelled as he ran to catch up with me.

I made my way to my house and went into the garage.

“I’m going to hunt that bastard and make sure he is dead for good.” I made my way to one of the cars, got inside, and drove. Before leaving the pack, I stopped at the building the omegas lived in and stormed inside.

A few omegas who were there looked at me in alarm.

“Where’s Benjamin’s room?” I asked them in a calm voice.

“It’s upstairs, Beta Costa. His name is carved on the door.” One of the omegas stammered.

Without a second look, I ran up the stairs, taking them two at a time, and arrived on the first floor.

I walked down the hallway, looking at the names on the doors when I finally found the door I was looking for.

~Benjamin Luca Garcia.~

He was once a great warrior, and he had done a lot for this pack. That was the only reason I let him stay—even after he slept with my mate. I thought he would regret his choices, that he’d make things right. But now, I realize that might have been my biggest mistake.

I tried to open the door, but it was locked.

Looking around, I stepped back and launched myself at the door. The door flew open, and I quickly walked inside. I looked around the room and realized that there was nothing in there. I walked toward the closet to find one T-shirt there.

I grabbed it and headed back downstairs. As I stepped outside, I noticed the fear on everyone’s faces. Without a word, I walked to my car, got in, and drove away from the pack. On my way, I dialed Elizabeth’s number, praying that she would pick up.

“Hello?” I heard her raspy voice when she picked up on the last ring.

“I want to meet you now.”

“Come to our usual place,” she said, and I disconnected the call.

I threw my phone into the passenger seat and stepped on the gas. Within fifteen minutes, I arrived at the location. I parked the car on the curb and got out to see her standing near the edge of the forest.

“What’s so urgent, Beta Costa?” Elizabeth asked me.

“Someone kidnapped my mate. And I want you to help me find her,” I told her.

She looked around the deserted forest before her eyes landed on me again.

“Do you have anything that belongs to the kidnapper?” she asked me, and I nodded my head as I showed her the T-shirt.

“All right, come back to my place,” she said.

We walked into the forest. About an hour later, we arrived at her house, and she opened the door for me to enter, and I followed her through her house.

We finally stopped in front of a closed door. She pulled a key from her pocket and unlocked it. As the door creaked open, I felt like I was stepping into the lab of a mad scientist. Large glass bowls simmered with strange, bubbling liquids.

One wall was lined with shelves packed with glass bottles, each filled with colorful liquids or dried herbs and elements I couldn’t name. Elizabeth guided me to the oval table in the center of the room and motioned for me to sit.

“This might take a while,” she explained.

I nodded my head as I saw her begin her work. She used various potions and herbs, and after a while, I lost track of what she was putting in.

An hour later, she asked for the T-shirt, so I gave it to her. She cut a small piece from that, put it inside the potion, and mixed it nicely.

About two hours later, she took out a small vial, filled it with the potion she made, and handed it over to me.

“Pour this liquid into the last place you saw the kidnapper, and you will soon find his scent,” she explained. I nodded my head and took the vial from her.

“Thank you for your help, Elizabeth,” I told her.

“That’s what I’m here for. Now go find your mate.”

I quickly walked outside. This time, I shifted into my wolf and ran back to my car. I looked around my surroundings before I walked to the road and poured a few drops of the liquid on the floor.

For a long time, nothing happened. Then, I was suddenly bombarded with Benjamin’s scent.

“You’re as good as dead,” I whispered. I quickly got inside the car and began following the scent.
