BETA XAVIER

I was about to head inside the pack house when I saw Ivan running toward us while calling my name.

“Beta Costa!” he said as he came to a stop in front of me.

I gave him a few minutes to catch his breath.

“What’s wrong, Ivan?” I asked him when he finally straightened his back.

Ivan’s eyes were red, and there were tears already pooling in the corner.

“Are you all right?” I asked him again, sounding worried.

“No…I…I don’t feel my bond with Rebecca. And I can’t reach her through the mind-link either, Beta Costa,” he said. “Can I go and look outside the pack?” Ivan asked me.

Right now, I wanted my head warrior to guard the border, but seeing how devastated he looked, I knew he wouldn’t be able to function properly unless he had his mate back. I understood, because I was feeling it, too.

“I’ll come with you. Get a car and meet me here in five minutes,” I instructed, and he nodded his head.

I walked into the pack house and made my way to Samuel’s office. As I walked inside, I saw Marquez there as well.

“Xavier.” Marquez had a nervous look on his face

“Just spit it out,” I growled, getting agitated.

“Mr. and Mrs. Amato went on a vacation to the beach yesterday. We were tracking them like you asked us to. Then this morning…” Marquez didn’t finish his sentence, and I looked toward Samuel.

“Our warriors lost them. They have no idea where they went. I think your suspicion is right, Xavier,” Samuel said.

Fuck! I knew something was wrong the moment they came here out of the blue, acting all lovey-dovey toward Eleanor.

“I’ve told the warriors to not stop looking, so don’t worry, we’ll find them,” Samuel reassured me, and I nodded my head.

“I’m going out with Ivan to look for Rebecca and Eleanor. Can you take care of things here, Marquez?” I asked him, and he nodded his head.

With one final nod, I left the room and headed to the front. Outside the pack house, Ivan was already waiting beside the car. I slid into the driver’s seat while he took the passenger side, and soon we were on the road.

I drove slowly, both of us scanning the streets through the windows, eyes sharp for any sign of movement.

I was so busy looking outside when I felt someone trying to mind-link me.

“~Beta Costa, we’ve searched the entire human town, but it seems like Miss Amato left a while ago,~” the warrior informed me.

“~Keep looking,~” I told him as I closed my mind-link again.

I wasn’t able to think straight right now. I felt our mate bond stretching, but I didn’t feel any of her emotions, which felt strange. I parked the car at the curb and got out.

I ran my fingers through my hair, not knowing what to do. There’s absolutely no clue as to where they are, and the GPS tracker on Rebecca’s car is switched off. I felt like I was walking into a dark tunnel with no idea what direction to go. The cold wind blew past me when I got a scent of blood.

I turned around to face Ivan when I saw him mumble his mate’s name. He briefly looked at me before he bolted into the forest. I followed him closely behind. Trees zoomed past me as I ran further inside. I finally slowed down when I saw bloodstains on the muddy ground. My eyes scanned the entire surroundings as I spotted something to my left.

“Ivan.” Before I could say anything more, he ran toward his mate.

As I came to a stop, I felt my heart nearly stop beating when I saw Rebecca’s condition. Her body was battered and littered with wounds and bite marks, and she was completely naked. I quickly got down on the ground and took her wrist when I realized that her heartbeat was faint.

“We need to take her back to the pack right now,” I told Ivan, who was screaming at this point while holding onto his mate.

I quickly removed my jacket and placed it on her body.

“Becca, wake up. Please!” he kept sobbing, and I knew that we were losing time.

“Ivan, get up!” I said in a sterner tone.

He finally looked up at me. His eyes were void of any emotions. He looked lost, and for a fraction of a second, I felt like I was seeing myself in him.

“We need to go to the hospital now!” I said, stressing each word.

He nodded his head and quickly got up from the floor. We ran back to the car, and he sat in the back with his mate while I hopped into the driving seat. I raced back to the pack.

As I reached the hospital, Ivan quickly got out of the car with his mate and ran into the hospital while I stayed at the entrance.

“What happened?” I turned around when I saw Marquez standing there looking worried.

“We found Rebecca. She was deep in the forest, fighting to survive.”

“Did you find any traces of the rogue there?”

“No, but I think they left her to die while they took Eleanor with them,” I said.

A cold shiver ran down my spine at the thought of what they might be doing to Eleanor right now.

“Beta Costa.” Both Marquez and I turned around when I saw a warrior standing there with a box in his hand. “This came by post for you,” he said, and I took the box. I don’t remember ordering anything. I tore the wrapping paper and opened the box.

My heart nearly stopped when I saw what was inside.
