Chapter Twenty

"Hey, is Kira okay?" Stiles as Scott walked into the house but walked right past them and up the stairs. "Scott?" Avalon called up to him. She glanced back at Stiles, Theo and Malia before running up the stairs.
They ran into Scott's room to see Scott with his claws in the back of Corey's neck. "Don't get too close." Lydia said as she watched the two carefully, "What is he doing?" Theo asked. "Tapping into Corey's memories. It's usually something only Alphas do." Lydia explained and Theo walked over to get a look.
"Is it as dangerous as it looks?" Theo asked and Lydia nodded, "More." She said. "Does anyone know if it's working?" Mason said and then a second later Scott gasped and pulled away from Corey. Stiles and Theo shot out to catch Scott while Lydia and Mason grabbed Corey, "Is he okay?"
"What the hell did you do to me?"
"You'll be all right."
"There's blood..."
"You'll heal."
"Scott-"
"He'll be fine!" Scott yelled as he started rabidly drawing on a piece of paper. "I think it worked. I saw something. There were tunnels, pipes along the walls... There were these huge blue pipes at the entrance, two on both sides." Scott explained and Stiles, Avalon and Lydia walked over and looked at the paper.
"Wait a second... I know this. I've seen this before. That's one of the tunnels I used to skateboard in. Remember? My dad caught me one time and told me to never go back?" Stiles said. "It's the water treatment plant." Lydia said and Scott nodded, "That's where they are. That's where we'll find Liam and Hayden."
"Scott... Scott, slow down. Just think for a second, okay? Mason shouldn't be going." Stiles said as they followed Scott down the stairs. "Liam's my best friend- I'm going." Mason said making Stiles raised his eyebrows, "Oh, did you suddenly get super-wolf powers? I wasn't aware of that development."
"Well, if you're not going, I could use the help." Scott said and Stiles shook his head, "No, I'm coming as soon as I talk to my dad. They're moving the body, and he wants to make sure that this time, no one steals it." Stiles said and Malia furrowed her brows. "How's he gonna do that?" She asked and Stiles sighed.
"I don't know... But whoever took the last one was strong enough to flip my Jeep." Stiles said and Avalon sighed, "Well I'm definitely going." She said and Lydia went to say something but Avalon stopped her. "I don't care if the Dread Doctors did something to me. My brother comes first." She said.
"We can take Theo." Malia suggested, "Maybe I better stay here... You know, in case the Doctors decide to make a house call for Corey." He said and Lydia sighed. "Scott, Stiles is right. We need to slow down and think." She said and Scott shook his head.
"I am thinking- about how Liam and Hayden could already be dead." Scott said making her give him a look, "You could've hurt him, Scott. Really hurt him." Lydia said and he sighed. "I have to find Liam." He said and walked out, Mason, Avalon and Malia following. "Hey, text me. For anything." Stiles said and Malia nodded, "I got it." She said.
"Anything at all, okay?"

They pulled up to the water treatment plant and quickly got out, running inside and down the stairs. Malia and Avalon stopped at the bottom of the stairs for a moment before following Scott down a tunnel. "Liam!" Avalon called out as she glanced around while Mason walked up to Scott.
"Can you catch a scent?" Mason asked and Scott shook his head, "There's too many chemicals." He said making Mason sigh. "Then this might take a while." He said before they all walked down the tunnel.
After a while they all had split up down separate tunnels to cover more ground. "Liam!" Avalon yelled as she turned the corner, "Hayden!" She yelled out again. She suddenly stopped and grabbed onto one of the pipes on the wall as a burning pain shot through her body while mercury leaked from her nose. She brought her hand up to wipe away the mercury before taking a deep breath, fighting through the pain to continue looking.
She turned the corner and almost ran into Malia and Scott. "Anything?" Scott asked and the girls shook their heads, "Nothing." Malia said before looking at Avalon who was really sweaty and pale. "Avalon..." Malia said worriedly as she grabbed Avalon's arm and Avalon shook her head slightly, "I'm fine." She said.
"Hayden!" Mason yelled making them turn around to see Mason running down a tunnel before he noticed them. "Okay, we need to make sure that we're not covering the same area." Scott said as he started ti breath heavily, "You need your inhaler, don't you?" Mason asked and Scott furrowed his brows.
"Quiet. I think I hear something." Scott said as he focused on his hearing, "It's just the lights, isn't it?" Malia asked and Scott shook his head. "Come on. This way." He said before running off, Mason ran after him while Malia and Avalon glanced at each other before Malia grabbed her Avalon's hand Avalon's they quickly followed behind.
The ran down tunnel after tunnel for a while before stopping, all of them breathing heavily. "I'm telling you guys, we've been down this one before." Mason said and Scott shook his head slightly, "What the hell are we doing? We're running up and down this place... Up and down tunnels... And there's no way... There's no way that we're gonna find..." Scott slowed to a stop as he breathed heavily.
"Scott, you need your inhaler." Avalon said and Scott shook his head slightly, "You're not gonna be able to find them if you can't breath. Use your god damn inhaler." Avalon said and Scott fell to his knees before pulling out his inhale and taking a puff.
"This is all my fault." Scott said making Malia, Avalon and Mason glance at each other, "We're never going to find them. It's my fault." Scott said and Avalon shook her head.
"No, we just... we need to keep looking. We should keep trying..." Avalon said before a dizziness washed over her making her stumble back slightly. Malia quickly grabbed Avalon's arms before helping her sit down on the ground. "Avalon?" Mason asked worriedly as he crouched down in front of Avalon as black blood and mercury started leaking out of both of her nostrils.
"I- I'm not... I don't think I can..." Avalon struggled to say as she breathed heavily, "Save your breath, okay. Let's just get you out of here." Scott said and Avalon shook her head. "No, no, no. Go. Go find my brother and Hayden." She said and Malia looked at her crazy, "We can't just leave you. Let's just get you back to the house and figure out out from there." Malia said and Avalon shook her head while grabbing Malia's hand.
"I'm not gonna make to the house. Just... find my brother. Please..." Avalon said as tears fell down her face and Malia looked at Scott and Mason. "Go, I'll stay with her." Malia said and they glanced at Avalon, "Find my brother and Hayden." Avalon said and Scott nodded. Mason squeezed her hand for a moment before him and Scott stood up.
Scott gently grabbed Mason's arm before directing him down the tunnel while Malia turned to Avalon. "You should go with them." Avalon said as she wiped the mercury from her nose and Malia gave her a look, "I'm not leaving you." She said. "You're gonna have to eventually... Who ever is taking the bodies, they're gonna come for me." She said and Malia shook her head, "Doesn't mean you have to die alone." Malia said.
"You shouldn't have to watch me die..." Avalon said and Malia stared at her at her for a moment before leaning forward and kissing her. Avalon grabbed the back of Malia's neck as their lips moved in sync for a minute. When they pulled away, they pressed their foreheads together as a tear fell down Malia's face before pulling back to look at Avalon.
"I don't want to lose you..." Malia said and Avalon smiled sadly, "Can... Can you keep an eye on my brother when you guys find him? I... I don't know how he's take this. My parents, I-" Avalon said and Malia nodded. "I promise." She said and Avalon whinced in pain as that burning sensation came back. Malia furrowed her brows as she looked down at Avalon's hand.
"You're burning up." She said and Avalon took a deep breath as her tears where now made of mercury. "You wanna know what I regret?" Avalon asked making Malia look up at her, "I regret not asking you out when you first kissed me." She said and Malia nodded.
"Me too." She said and Avalon smiled at her sadly before her smile slowly fell and her head fell to the side slightly. "Avalon?" Malia asked as she gently grabbed Avalon's face. "Hey, Avalon?" Malia asked before focusing her hearing on Avalon's heart only to not hear a sound. Tears fell sound her face as she started at Avalon before leaning her head on Avalon's shoulder.
A little while later, Malia was holding Avalon's body close to her when she heard footsteps coming towards her. She looked up to see Parrish walking over with a blank look on his face. "Parrish? What are you doing here?" Malia asked but Parrish didn't say anything as he just crouched down, picking up Avalon's body. "Parrish?" Malia asked but Parrish just walked away from her with Avalon's body.
