Chapter Nineteen
ð Strange Frequencies ð
"Do you know him?" Theo asked as they stood around the body in the animal clinic. "His name's Josh. He was a junior." Scott said and Avalon sighed before pulling the sheep back over the body. "Which one did it? The one with the cane?" Scott asked making Stiles and Theo look at each other for a moment, "Yeah." Theo said.
"What are we going to do with him? We can't just set the alarm and leave, that's how Tracy disappeared." Stiles asked and no one answered right away, "Someone's got to stay here with him." Avalon said and Theo nodded.
"I'll do it." Theo said making them look over at him, "It's not like I had a big Saturday night planned." Theo said and then Avalon phone went off making her pull it out to see a text from Liam. "What is it?" Stiles asked and she looked up, "Lydia told me what she saw and heard earlier so I texted Liam to test and see if Hayden is a chimera. Whatever Lydia heard was right... We got another Chimera, which by the way. My suppressed memory conformed me being a Chimera." Avalon said making them all glance at each other.

"Hayden...? It's Scott. I know that you're scared, but we just... We want to help." Scott asked after knocking on his bathroom door, "I can hear her heart beating- she's really freaked out. What happened?" Scott asked turning to Liam. "She was okay when we got here. I went to text you for two seconds and she locked herself in."
"Why?" Stiles asked and Liam shrugged, "I don't know." He said. "She's definitely a Chimera?" Scott asked and Liam nodded, "She said she heard a voice saying 'Your condition improves'." Liam said making them all glance at each other and sigh.
"Okay, that's unsettling..." Stiles said before stepping up to the door, "Hayden? This is Stiles. Your sister works for my dad down at the station? Look, just open the door. You can trust us." Stiles said but Hayden didn't say anything or open the door making him step back.
"We just need to tell you the truth, Hayden... And that kind of thing is usually better face-to-face." Scott said but yet again Hayden didn't do anything making them sigh before Avalon stepped up.
"Hayden, it's Avalon. We can explain everything to you if you come out. It's alright if you don't want to talk, or if you're not ready to believe us. The same thing is happening to me and we need know that you're okay in there." Avalon said and then looked back at the guys. A second later the door unlocks and opens a bit.
Avalon slowly pushed it open to reveal Hayden standing there. But her eyes were glowing a bright yellow, her teeth and turned into canines and her hands where now sporting a set if claws.
"I believe you..."

Parrish pulled up to the school and got out as Malia, Avalon and Lydia walked over to them. "We're betting our lives on these?" Malia asked after grabbing one of the jammers, "I think we're betting Hayden's life on them." Lydia said as Avalon handed her one. "Yeah, well, I'm glad I brought my gun." Parrish said before shutting the trunk door. Lydia, Avalon and Parrish walked into the locker room and Parrish started setting one of the jammers up.

"Scott." Avalon said as she and Lydia walked up to Scott while Liam and Hayden talked. "We were thinking... Since we can't use our phones, we can't check in on Stiles and Theo." Lydia said making realization cross over Scott's face, "I didn't even think about that." He said and Avalon nodded.
"Neither did we. So, we're standing here, waiting for guys in masks and breathing tubes to show up. But who- or what- are Stiles and Theo waiting for?" Avalon asked and Scott sighed and shook his head slightly.
A little while later Lydia and Avalon sat on one of the benches together while Scott paced back and forth and Liam and Hayden sat against some lockers. Hayden was falling asleep on Liam's shoulder as he glanced around before noticing Scott's duffel bag.
He slowly got up, being careful not to wake up Hayden before walking over to the bag and opening it. The sound of chains rattling made Scott, Avalon and Lydia look over to see Liam pulling out some chains from the bag. "What were you going to do with these?" Liam asked as he looked back at Scott who shook his bead slightly, "Brought them just in case." He said and Liam furrowed his brows.
"In case of what?" He asked and Lydia turned to him, "In case we had a chance to catch one of them." She said making both Avalon and Liam look at them in shock. "If we can't make the school a fortress, then maybe we can make it a trap." Scott explained and Liam squinted at him.
"They're coming for her- doesn't that mean she's the bait?" Liam asked and Lydia sighed and stood up, "Liam, we brought her here to protect her." She said and he nodded and slammed the chains down. "And now she's bait." He said and Hayden looked at them as she stood up, "Am I?" She asked.
"No, no one's bait. But we can't be bodyguards to everyone every night." Scott asked and Liam raided his eyebrows, "Then why aren't we talking to Stiles' dad? Why aren't we doing something better than hiding in a school?" He asked and Scott shook his head slightly.
"Because we still don't know anything about them or what they want, okay? They're winning, and we don't even know what the game is." Scott asked and Liam gestured to the jammer as he walked up to Scott. "What if they come in here and those things don't work? What if you have an asthma attack again? What are we gonna do?" Liam asked and Scott sighed softly, "I don't know."
"This plan sucks!" Liam yelled and Scott raised his eyebrows, "You got a better one? Kids are dying, and she's next! So, somebody has to do something. Somebody has to save everyone. So somebody's got to be the bait!" Scott said in frustration making Avalon scoff.
"Are you fucking serious?" Avalon asked making them look at her, "Scott, she's not even sixteen yet and you're making her be bait. Did you also forget that she's not the only Chimera here? If she's bare then so am I!" Avalon said and Liam's eyes widened slightly. "Ava..." He said making her look at him and he gestured to his nose making her bring her hand up to her nose.
She pulled her hand away to see mercury on her hand. "Avalon." Liam said and Avalon took a deep breath, "I'm fine." She said while wiping her face off while they all looked at her worriedly. "Avalon, last time someone was bleeding mercury was Tracy..." Lydia said and Avalon shook her head, "I said I'm fine." She said and Liam sighed.
"Scott... Promise me you'll do everything you can to save them both. Scott- promise." Liam said in a slight whisper and Scott glanced at Avalon before nodding, "I'll do everything I can. I promise." He said.
"Guys..." Hayden said making them look over at her as she dug around her bag, "I think I might need a little help right now. I forgot my pills. I have a bottle in my locker. I can get them, but-" She said but Scott cut her off. "I'll get them. What's your combination?" Scott asked.
While Scott and Lydia when out into the hall, Liam looked at his sister. "Ava, if-" He started to say but she cut him off by grabbing his shoulders. "Stop worrying, alright. It's fine." Avalon said and Liam shook his head, "When Tracy bleed mercury, they killed her not long after." He said and Avalon sighed softly as she glanced at Hayden.
"Let's... Let's just not worry about that right. And focus on right now." She said before Liam furrowed his brows slightly. "Did you hear that?" He asked making them focus their hearing to hear the sound of the Dread Doctors. "They're here, aren't they? They're in the school." Hayden asked and Avalon gently squeezed Hayden's shoulders before walking towards the door.
"Scott? Lydia?" She called out and was about to open the door but the door opened first to reveal one of the Dread Doctors. Avalon protectively stood in front of Liam and Hayden as they all back up as all three of the Dread Doctor's walked in.
The Surgeon walked forward before looking at the jammer on the shelf, using his cane to knock it off. "We're on a frequency you can't possibly imagine." The Dread Doctor said before slamming it's cane down on the jammer, smashing it to pieces.
Avalon's eyes flashed a golden yelled before she sung her arm out. The Dread Doctor grabbed her throat making her gash, "Failure." He said making Avalon's eyes widen. The Dread Doctor pulled out a large syringe making her try to pull away but couldn't. The Dread Doctor stuck the syringe into her neck making her cry out in pain as her eyes went completely silver for a moment. "Avalon!" Liam yelled as his sister fell to the ground.
Minutes later Scott ans Mason suddenly ran into the locker room where Malia and Lydia stood, Malia helping a weak Avalon up. "They took them... They took Hayden and Liam..." Avalon said making them look at her as her eyes glossed over, "They did something to me..." She said as she rubbed her neck.
