Chapter 16
Ireneâs POV
If there was any good thing about the bad note we ended dinner on, it was me realising that the three brothers were skipping breakfast. Or having it somewhere that I wasnât.
I didnât mind either. After all, the most important thing was me getting to eat my food without being scared of offending either of them.
Sam was already waiting when I stepped outside the mansion, his large arms folded across his chest.
âMiss Irene,â he greeted me with a curt nod and then opened the door for me.
âThank you, Sam.â
A part of me was tempted to tell him not to open the days, but knowing the brothers and their penchant for control, I suspected that asking him to do that would only make things difficult for
him.
I doze off through the ride, and the braking of the car as Sam pulls to a stop wakes me up.
âIâll be here once your last class ends,â Sam informed me, his eyes meeting mine through the rearview mirror.
âYou have my schedule?â What was I thinking? He probably knew what time I dozed off last night.
Despite how comfortable I was around Brenda and Julia, I didnât allow myself to forget that they were not my people. They worked for the lords of this empire.
As though to prove me right, Sam nodded.
âPrince Elton is in charge of the academy, he has everything regarding your school and classes.â
My b*dy stiffens at the information, and I glance around briefly, wondering if he is somewhere nearby.
I didnât
peg
him as someone who would handle the education in the academy.
While I didnât think he could rule as well as Alek, considering his taciturn and cold demeanour, he looked like he would fare well in a department that involved lawâmaking or justice.
The picture of Elton sitting on some high chair and making laws to guide the people in the Lycan Empire made me grin as I got out of the car.
There was a sharp change in the air from when I stepped down to when I closed the door, and I looked around me, my eyes taking in the crowd that had gathered in small numbers and groups
around.

While I didnât know if it was common for them to gather like this, I knew that them looking at me was something new!
Every single one of them was staring, and I took a deep breath and looked down.
I was afraid, yet uncomfortable about having to handle all of those stares.
Im riding my entire life and family to do this,â a familiar voice says from behind me, and I turn to see Luciana. Her bead is lowered, and itâs obvious that sheâs cowering from the numerous gazes that were focused on us.
Yet, she closed the gap between us until she was beside me.
âWhat are you waiting for? Letâs leave here,â she urged, her eyes darting around.
I force myself to hold back my grin and catch up to her very quickly. As soon as we walked through the large doors of the main building, the door slammed closed.
âIs this the b*tchâ a snide voice rang out, and Luciana curses out beside me.
âDamnââ
âWhatâs happening?â I whispered, moving closer until our shoulders were touching-
âThe golden witchâ
I remember the story of the golden student that she had told me yesterday, and my l*ps curled up with mockery.
âIs this what you wanted for us?â I asked Liv as I took in the girl before me.
Her hair is as black as ink, and her eyes are the darkest I have ever seen. It was almost like the inside of her was so dark that it was finding ways to seep out.
Her aura?
This was clearly not some golden student. But since she was here, I didnât want to lose.
No, I was not one to lose.
And the first rule to not losing was- making the first move!
âAre you here to stake some claim over your Prince?â I asked as I took two steps forward.
Luciana curses under her breath, and I wonder why she had dared to join me when she panicked. this much.
Tyla or Kyla scoffs.
âGood to know that you arenât some pretentious little vixen. At least you have saved me the effort,â

she spat.

Liv whimpers within me, displeased at the name, and usually, Livâs anger would have made me feel more confident.
However, this was all her doing.
She could have picked any of the men in the world, and she picked a Prince with some golden black princess.
So much for having taste!
âHey! He belongs to me!â Liv snaps, but I ignore her, turning my attention back to Miss golden black.
âTyla, I think we have some misunderstandings here..â I startedâ¦.
âItâs Kyla!â She scowled, her perfectly drawn brows raised up fiercely.
I just suspected that I was getting it wrong. But like I minded, though.
âIf this is about Prince Noah, you donât have to worry, heâs very much still yours and what he said. yesterday was just an excuse for him to save me.â
âReally?â
âYes, it was just forâ¦â I paused, sensing that something was wrong.
âYou are their Royally chosen breeder, and thereâs nothing between you both?â
Oh crap!
I had totally forgotten about Alekâs announcement until she mentioned it.
Was that why everyone was looking at him?
âArenât you some slut?â One of the girls behind Kyla joined in, her hands folded in defiance.
One breeder being shared among different men was not a new thing. However, I could imagine. what it meant for the people here.
All of the three royals had picked me to be their breeder.
The mere thought of how many people this would make angry made goosebumps rise on my skin.
Dear goddess.
Was I going to survive this?
The answer is clearly no, as I heard Lucianaâs scream at the same time that something rained o
