Ch16: Damn You Heart, Why Can't You Just Choose Already?

"It has to count," Josh complains and I shake my head.

"We voted," I answer. "You lost by majority of the vote. So it doesn't count."

"You're all cheaters," he scoffs.

So it's been two weeks since me and Josh are. . . .

Well I don't know what we are, but it's been two weeks since we kissed and we've been arguing about whether or not I lost the bet.

I, of course, said no because a kiss doesn't mean you automatically fall or fell for someone, right?

"A kiss doesn't mean anything," Alex shrugs.

"I kiss girls all the time," Vincent interjects, an expressionless look on his face. "Doesn't mean I fell for them. It just means I kissed them."

Of course, Vinny would agree with me.

"Wait," an idea comes into my head "what if one of you falls for me before I fall for one of you?"

As soon as the words come out of my mouth Josh and Alex begin laughing as if what I said was the biggest joke in the world.

Why is what I said so funny?

"You're adorable kitten," Vincent shakes his head.

"You don't think one of you will fall for me first?" I ask feeling a bit offended.

"Guys are harder," Josh rubs my shoulder "to make fall."

Then let's change it up a bit, shall we?

"Okay," I smirk. "I say we change the bet a bit."

"How?" Alex asks his hand on his stomach which is probably hurting from laughing so much.

"Whoever falls first loses," I say. "If one of you falls for me you lose and if I fall for one you I lose."

"You already lost," Josh argues and I shake my head.

"No I didn't dillweed," I roll my eyes. "We have to say I love you."

"What?" Alex chuckles. "So whoever says I love you first loses?"

"Exactly," I grin. "That way we know they actually fell for the other person and we don't have to assume they lost."

"That's easy," Vincent smirks "girls tell me they love me all the time."

"How do you manage to be so full of yourself ?" I ask and he shrugs.

"I look in mirror everyday," he answers. "It helps me understand why girls love me so much."

"This is why I'm not losing the bet," I roll my eyes. "You're all dillweeds."

"The presentations are due in one week," Ms. Edwards says as she walks around the class. "I expect high quality work and will have zero tolerance for anything below that."

"Kitten," I hear someone whisper and I force myself to keep starring ahead.

"I have uploaded the rubric to the class website," she walks past my seat.

"Kitten," I hear the voice again.

Don't look.

"The presentations will be worth 200 points," Ms. Edwards reaches the front of the classroom again. "I highly recommend you take this very seriously as it can determine whether you pass this class or not."

"Kitten," I see a paper fly past the front of my head.

What the hell is his problem?

"We will establish the order of the presentations in a few minutes," she continues.

"Kitten," a paper hits the side of my head and I turn to look at Vincent.

He's pointing directly at his phone and I give him a confused look.

"What?" I mouth and he points harder towards his phone.

"Elliana and Vincent," Ms Edwards yells and I immediately turn towards her. "You always manage to distract the entire class."

"Sorry Ms. Edwards," I apologize while glaring at Vincent.

"You will be the first group to present," she writes down our names at the top of the whiteboard. "I expect good work from you two."

Great, as always Vincent manages to make everything worse.

***

"Elliana," I hear a voice call and I speed up my walking.

"Bair," another voice yells and I stop to turn and look at them.

"What?" I ask as seen Taylor and Pipper looking at me with their arms crossed over their chest.

"You haven't been there for two weeks," Pipper frowns and I shrug my shoulders.

Stupid support group.

"I've been busy," I lie.

"Catching a ride with your new boyfriend," Taylor grins and I roll my eyes.

"Josh isn't my boyfriend," I exhale. "He's my friend that's all."

"Yeah whatever," Pipper frowns before walking away.

Why is he so mad?

"See at lunch?" Taylor ask and I shrug.

"Maybe," I say and she frowns before catching up to Pipper.

So, I've been ditching support group and avoiding Pipper. I can't help and feel like Pipper is lying to me about what he's involved in.

Every time I ask him he always says nothing and quickly changes the subject.

I just don't like being lied to.

"Kitten," I feel a hand take a hold of my arm and before I know it I'm pulled inside a classroom.

What the hell?

"What are you doing?" I ask as Vincent stands in front of the door blocking it from me.

"I wanted to talk to you," he says and I can see a look of desperation in his face.

He looks bad.

"What is it?" I ask and he runs his hand through his hair.

"I don't know," he shakes his head suddenly moving towards me. I quickly take a few steps back crashing into an empty desk.

"You're scaring me," I put my hand on his chest to maintain the distance between us.

"Kitten," he speaks softly moving my hand away and coming towards me. I try moving further back, but the desk won't budge.

"Vincent," I move my head as far back as I can, but I can feel his the front of his hair touching my forehead. "Can you move back please?"

Calm down heart, quit beating so fast.

"Why?" He ask a smirk on his face. "You're heart is speeding. I don't think you want me to move away."

How dare he?

Corner me like this.

"Yes I do," I push him. "I'm with. . . . . Josh's my. . . . .just move back!"

"Josh and you," he smirks "I never thought-"

"Never thought what?" I exclaim. "That it wouldn't be you because you're so much better than everyone else? See that's why you need to move back. . . . it's like you can't believe someone wouldn't fall for you. As if you were the center of the universe and we all can't help go towards you."

"You done?" He asks a furious look on his face.

"No," I shake my head. "You want to know why I don't go towards you? It's because your huge ego and big head always get in the way. You close yourself up to any personal connections with anyone and you don't tell people about your life. Talking to you is like talking to a stranger. "

"Oh because you open up to the world," he growls. "Does Josh know about Lilo? I mean, if you're talking about opening up."

It's not the same thing, right?

Crap, yes it is.

Damn.

"He's your friend," I tell him "that should be enough to stay back."

"He is my friend," Vincent nods " but I'm not heartless."

With that said he walks out the room slamming the door behind him.

What does that even mean?

I'm not heartless.

***

I make my way towards the parking and I can see the entire football team holding a pink sign, a girl's name on it.

What is that for?

"Football preseason banquet," I hear a voice and I turn to see Alex his blonde hair all messy and full of sweat.

"Is season about to start?" I ask and he nods. "Who's captain?"

"We'll find out at the banquet," he answers a bit annoyed.

"So who are you taking?" I shove him and he shrugs.

So in the last two weeks I've noticed that Taylor comes over to the house quite often and it's not always to see me. Apparently Taylor and him have Statistics together and she's helping him pass the class.

"She's with Pipper," he speaks and I smile.

"Did you just admit that you'd ask Taylor?" I gasp and he shakes his head.

"No," he answers "but I knew that was who you were thinking of. Me and Taylor are just friends."

"Sure you are," I grin playfully pushing him and he chuckles.

"How are you and Josh?" He ask playfully shoving me back and this time I shrug.

Immediately Vincent pops into my head.

I'm not heartless.

"We're just friends," I say and Alex shakes his head.

"Sure you are," he grins.

"We're as much friends as you and Taylor," I smirk and he frowns.

Haha, I guess me and Alex are truly just friend after all.

***

"It was a good movie," Josh laughs pulling me closer towards him.

"It was okay," I place my head on his shoulder as I surf through the channels.

"You didn't like it?" He asks as he softly begins to run his hand through my hair.

"I did," I look up towards him. "I'm just off today that's all."

Yeah, I can't stop thinking about what Vincent said.

Curse the moment he pulled me into that classroom.

"Why?" He asks. "Did something happen?"

"No," I lie. "I'm just weird."

God, I hate liars and I'm becoming one.

"I like weird," he smiles leaning towards me his eyes looking directly at my lips.

"I need to shower," I speak pretending to be unaware of what he was trying to do as I stand up. As soon as I'm about to move towards the stairs I see a dark haired devil boy.

Vincent.

"Okay," Josh nods and I make my way towards the stairs carefully going around Vincent.

How did my life turn into this?

***

"Elliana," I hear a voice yell, but I can't quite make out who it is.

Damn, I can't even shower in peace in this house.

"Elliana," someone knocks harshly on the door causing me to jump.

Okay, I'm worried.

"What is it?" I ask quickly rinsing the shampoo off my hair.

"It's Taylor," the voice yells and I recognize it. "She was outside and I tried grabbing her, but everything was so quick."

Alex.

"Is Taylor okay?" I ask immediately getting out the shower and putting on my bathrobe.

"She was fine," I open the door and see Alex standing there with his hair all messy from running his hand through it. He looks like he's scared and worried all at the same time.

Oh god, what happened?

"Where is she?" I ask quickly making my way down the stairs and I can hear him following behind me.

"She's outside," he says and as I reach the bottom of the stairs I see Josh and Vincent standing by the door their shirt's covered in something red.

"Is she okay?" I ask quickly pushing by them and running outside. As soon as I step outside I hear the door slam and I realize Taylor is nowhere to be seen.

What the hell?

Was this a prank?

Stupid, dillweeds!

"Open the door," I yell, furiously knocking on the door. "You stupid egotistical, grass asses!"

"Looking good sweet cheeks," a guy whistles at me as he drives by.

"Fine," I scream "public humiliation it is dillweeds!"
