Chapter 413:

Robbie immediately clamped his mouth shut. Last time he’d been too chatty, he’d ended up on another continent digging for coal. The time before that, he’d been tossed into a crocodile pit to handle those creatures.

And before that…

Even a fool learned eventually!

In Uwhor, there were two well-known locations that one would enter only with great caution. One was situated in the west, and the other in the east.

Both properties were private estates belonging to Matteo.

Matteo resided year-round in the estate to the east, which had earned the nickname “House of Horrors” due to the regular sight of individuals with broken limbs being carried out, deterring any potential trespassers. The western estate was the residence of Hale, a hacker closely associated with Matteo. Like the eastern estate, it too saw a daily procession of bodies being removed.

This revelation came to Harlee unexpectedly while she was investigating Frederic. She was shocked to discover that Matteo was involved with Dark Night, and even more so that Matteo had provided his western estate for Hale’s use. Such a coveted estate, typically beyond the reach of the underworld, was not only occupied by the leader of a small organization like Dark Night but was also protected by Matteo’s considerable influence.

Clearly, there was more to this situation than met the eye.

Seated in the back of the car, Harlee’s expression darkened as she pondered. She switched her phone to laptop mode and began tapping rapidly on the keyboard, trying to track down Hale and his ties to Matteo. Yet, she found nothing.

She continued typing, repeatedly attempting to penetrate Matteo’s highly secured personal network. Instead, she faced a counterattack.

A cold smile spread across Harlee’s lips.

“Ah, a virus.

Classic Hale, always as cunning as ever.”

Harlee had previously defeated Hale, the founder of Dark Night.

Five years ago, after Harlee crushed Dark Night, Hale had vanished from Uwhor, leaving no trace behind. This had been the first and only time Harlee failed to locate someone.

Recalling Matteo’s unexpected offer of collaboration, Harlee’s eyes narrowed. She was certain Hale was involved. It was time to settle old scores.

In the western estate, a man dressed entirely in black stood nervously in front of a desk, his head bowed, sweat dotting his forehead.

“Sir, our investigations confirm that the woman you are interested in not only survived the rainforest ordeal unscathed, but also destroyed the research facility that the Uwhor government had been developing there for the past decade.”

Hale, his eyes slightly closed, showed no sign of surprise. Taking a puff from his cigar, he raised an eyebrow and instructed, “Proceed.”

“The last time she was seen was at Murkwell Airport, about twenty kilometers from here. She was with two men… One of them seems particularly close to her.” The man in black bowed deeper.

Hale paused, his bloodshot eyes widening with a fierce intensity.

He said each word deliberately, “What kind of closeness?”

The man in black, overwhelmed by fear, dropped to his knees yet managed to maintain a steady voice.
