Chapter 402:
Tonya searched through her backpack, eventually pulling out a stronger antidote pill. She glanced at Rhys by the fire and took a deep breath. Tonya was astonished at how well Rhys was handling the situation, even better than Harlee. She was intimately familiar with the excruciating pain caused by arrow-poison frog venom, which could drive a person to tear at their own skin.
After developing the antidote, Tonya had bravely tested it on herself, vowing never to do so again after experiencing its severe effects. If there were poisons to be tested in the future, she resolved to find unfortunate volunteers rather than using herself.
Observing Rhys, Tonya hesitated. The enhanced antidote she held might stimulate male hormones. The cave was silent except for the sporadic crackling of the fire.
After thinking it over, Tonya handed the pill to Harlee, quietly warning her of the potential side effects.
âItâs okay.
He has a girlfriend,â Harlee responded casually.
Tonyaâs face showed disbelief.
âAre you telling me I was only gone for less than an hour scouting, and now Iâm the third wheel?â
âWerenât you the one who suggested I try kissing?â Harlee tilted her head.
Tonya was left speechless.
Harlee was truly an enigma, her approach to relationships as unconventional as everything else about her.
But as for Rhysâ¦
Well, they were indeed a perfect match.
Thus, Tonya had no complaints.
She decided to turn away and go to sleep, determined not to disturb their budding romance.

When Harlee approached, Rhys was still tending the fire.
She extended the pill to his lips with her cool, slender fingers.
Rhys looked up, noticed the pill, and without hesitation, accepted it and swallowed.
âHarlee, have you been to this rainforest alone before?â Rhys asked.
His question sounded more like a confirmation than a question.
Harleeâs extensive knowledge of the rainforest and her readiness with antidotes suggested she had indeed been here before.
Realizing Harlee might have previously suffered from arrow-poison frog venom, a trace of sadness appeared in Rhysâ eyes.
âDid it hurt?â
Harleeâs eyes met Rhysâ, a subtle spark visible in her gaze.
Her response was gentle, her voice soft.
âYes, I visited this rainforest five years ago. It was quite a challenge, and I explored extensively.â
Rhysâ large hand tenderly enclosed her smaller one.
âIf youâre still enjoying this, we could prolong our adventure.â
Behind them, Tonya slipped off a rock with a thud, her expression blank.
What an unconventional couple they were! How did Harlee find someone as quirky as herself? If Tonya werenât aware of the rainforestâs dangers, she might have been misled into thinking this was merely a casual expedition.
âAlright.â Harleeâs response was cheerful, her lips curving into a sweet smile.
Rhys was exactly her type! Had he expressed any concerns about the dangers, she would have backed off immediately, cutting off any unsuitable feelings.
What she sought was a companion to traverse the globe with her, not someone who would treat her like a delicate bird needing protection.
Once again, Tonya found herself at a loss for words.
She could hardly grasp the mindset of the couple.
This was the notorious rainforest, rife with unseen hazards.
Every year, thousands perished here, yet here they were, romanticizing it?
Tonya couldnât suppress her critical thoughts any longer.
She interjected awkwardly, âExcuse me, but can we not turn this into a romance narrative? Could you keep it down?â
