Chapter 312:
Liam and Averie looked down, awkwardness washing over them.
âActually, itâsâ¦â Liam rubbed his hands anxiously.
âHarlee hasnât come back from abroad yet. Thatâs why we havenât been able to reach her.â
Averie chimed in, âHarlee is thoughtless, having taken off right after reconnecting with her real family. When sheâs back, Iâll have a serious conversation with her. Sheâs always heeded my words since childhood. I have her under my thumb, so donât worry, Collin. If I ask her for the Sanderson familyâs support, she wonât dare object.â
Barbara inwardly scoffed but put on a smiling face, just like Adamsonâs. She said in a deliberate tone, âI heard Miss Sanderson is coming back this afternoonâ¦â
Averie said eagerly, âReally?â
Since cutting ties with the Gill family, Harlee had blocked all the Gillsâ attempts to reach her.
Consequently, Liam and Averie had to repeatedly visit the Sanderson familyâs estate in the hope of running into her, always returning without any trace of her.
Barbaraâs eyes gleamed, her smile broadening.
âYes, I got it from the Sanderson familyâs staff. They told me Miss Sanderson is coming back, and her mother has ordered the house to be thoroughly cleaned.â
While speaking, Barbara sent Freyja the record containing the recent conversation, instructing, âThe plan can proceed.â Barbaraâs eyes narrowed momentarily before she quickly regained her poised and elegant demeanor, her look warm yet controlled.
Averieâs gaze, however, was calculating.
At long last, Harlee was expected back. These days, Averie had been running between the Sanderson family estate for Harlee and the prison to visit Adelina. Seeing Adelina visibly thinner with each visit, she was nearly overwhelmed by her desire to confront Harlee harshly.
However, Averie held back, as Liam had explained that the Gill family business was facing an unprecedented crisis. Only Harlee, as the head of Janessa Studio or the beloved daughter of the Sanderson family, could save them from bankruptcy.
That was why she had lowered her head uncharacteristically to beg Harlee to return. This time, though, she was resolute about making Harlee pay dearly.
Collinâs gaze turned icy, his eyes narrowing as a plot began to form in his mind. Knowing Harleeâs temperament, he knew there was no way sheâd agree to listen to the Gill family. So, he was set on winning her back in his own way.
âGood,â he said.
âSince sheâs returning, Averie and I will pick her up from the airport this afternoon, and then weâll revisit the discussion of this marriage alliance.â
Liam wore a warm smile, his facade that of a father truly concerned for his daughter.
Barbara said meaningfully, âI heard Miss Sanderson might be betrothed to the Green familyâ¦â
At this, Liam was taken aback.
Could it be the Green family, the foremost among the four great families? He recalled that Belinda and Skyla had been close friends during their youth. If Harlee were to marry Rhys, the current leader of the Green family, then the George familyâ¦
