Justin had no time to take in the shock.
He could feel the surface beneath him crumbling.
âHurry up, Anna!â
+
In the heat of the moment, Justin blurted out the name that she used when they were married.
Bellaâs heart skipped a beat.
That name stirred her up with energy, and she managed to latch onto
the edge of the cliff and throw herself into Justinâs arms.
The man locked his arms around her and held her tight.
Rumble!
As the edge of the cliff collapsed, Justin shielded Bella and tumb with her in the opposite direction of
the disaster.
âUgh!â With his back hitting a rock, Justin let out an agonized grunt.
He hurt himself badly as he broke out in a cold sweat, which blended quickly with the rainwater.
âAre you injured?â Bella looked up from his embrace and nervously
looked at his discolored face.
î
âNo.â Justin kept his tone flat so as not to reveal the pain.in his voice.
Struck by lingering fear, Bella dropped her weight on his heaving chest.
and sighed.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â His gaze under his drenched lashes locked on her, and his voice was raspy.
âWhat?â As her heart raced, Bella looked away.
âWhy didnât you tell me that we met thirteen years ago? Why didnât you tell me you were the girl I saved
here?â
Justin spoke with a heavy breath as a mix of emotions ate at him.
She felt a catch in her throat, and her soiled face turned pale.
Did he call her Anna because he remembered the past?
Why did he have to remember at this moment?
Why did the realization come thirteen years too late?
It was too late. She would rather that he forget about her forever.
âTell me, Bella. Say something!â
Hot with emotions, Justin gripped Bellaâs chin and made her meet his
1998
bloodshot gaze.
î
âDo you remember why I called myself Anna when I married you?â
Bella gave him a gloomy look, her chest clutched.
Justin grimaced in pain at her cutthroat words.
His memories came back to him.
Justin asked for her name when-he saved her, but was met with
silence. Hence, he randomly named her âAnnaâ, as it was the most
common name he could think of at the moment.
However, it was the random name that brought him together with the woman thirteen years later. The
girl he once saved re-emerged as his
wife.
He had no idea.
âHa! It looks like you remember.â
Bella chuckled. âYou donât have to remember anything, though. I never expected you to remember me.
I am only passing through your life, whether itâs thirteen years ago, three years ago, or now.â
Justinâs breath hitched.
He was not at fault for saving her life and forgetting her.
Yet the guilt consumed him.
The woman had longed for him for thirteen years, but he turned around and forgot about her.
î
She chased after him and tried to blend into his world. However, he pushed her out and shut the door
to his heart right in her face.
âIâm sorryâ¦â
Justinâs lips shivered as he choked with sobs. âI didnât know you were that girl. If I knew-â
âIf you knew, you wouldâve divorced me anyway.â
Bella smiled with understanding. She had her regrets about him, but there were no lingering feelings. âI
might be Bella and Anna. The difference is just a name. It doesnât change anything between us. You
donât need to apologize. I should thank you. You left after saving my
life. I didnât know your name or who you were. I couldnât express my
gratitude.â
âEven so, why did you marry me, Bella?â
That was the question that had been bugging Justin. âDo you feel indebted to me because I saved
you?â
âIt doesnât matter anymore, Justin. Itâs all in the past. Thereâs no point. mulling over a marriage that
didnât end well.â
Bella closed her eyes as if closing off access to her heart. Her shoulders trembled, betraying her
feelings. âNow isnât the time to talk.
about this. Iâm cold. Letâs go.â
In the rainstorm, the former couple reached a truce for a moment. As they were injured, they leaned on
each other as they traveled ahead. with difficulty.
î
Unfortunately, Bellaâs phone had died on her, while Justin could no
receive any signal on his.
âOne thingâs for sure-we are at the back of Mount Jaglee. Otherwise, we wouldâve gotten a phone
signal.â Bella staggered out of breath.
The hunger and cold drained her of energy.
Her determination not to be a burden to Justin was the thing that kept
her going. She could not even feel her legs anymore.
âI instructed lan to send a helicopter before I came to you.â Sensing
that she was on her last legs, Justin held her waist to stop her from
falling.
âA search and rescue is difficult in this weather. Maybe-â
At last, Bella collapsed.
Justin caught her and held her close to his chest. All he could breathe
in was the smell of wet soil on her.
He tensed his jawline as his heart went out to her.
The woman must have been through hell because he arrived to save
her.
î
âWe should find a place to shelter from the rain.â
Justin crouched down to carry Bella on his back before moving along.
âHey, Justinâ¦â
Leaning over his back, Bella wrapped her arms around his neck and asked in a weak voice, âDo you
think we will ever get out of here?â
âOf course,â Justin responded without thinking twice.
âI nearly died once. What if-â
âThey said that you were the Goddess of the Mountain.â
While hiking ahead with a struggle, Justin said with a faint smile, Coincidentally, they called me a God
of the Mountain too.â
ΤÎ
âPft!â She closed her eyes in disdain.
âWe wonât die, Bella.â
Drawing a deep breath, Justin gave her dirty hands a tight squeeze. âIf
God canât protect you, I will.â
