Chapter 11: Home Sweet Home...

It was morning and as Jayden said he had gone to talk to Alpha Cairstay privately. He asked me if I wanted to join him but I declined. I didn't want to explain myself to Alpha Cairstay and look like the vulnerable girl who needed protection.

I had returned back to my room when I woke up. Jayden wouldn't let me out of his sight so he took the floor while I took the bed. He said something about acting gentlemanly but we both knew that was a lie.

I heard someone knock on the door and opened it to see Iris and Alexis standing there.

"Where were you? We looked all over the club for you and the surrounding buildings as well. And when we were about to call the guys Jayden called us and said you went home with him, when did you leave?" Alexis said storming into my room and planting herself on my bed gesturing me to continue. Iris leaned against the door and raised her eyebrows probing me to continue.

"I wasn't feeling well and I went outside for some air. I saw Jayden and he offered to drop me home. I'm sorry you two, I should have told you." I said looking at both girls.

"Well we hope you're feeling better, it's just that I told Alpha Neal that we will keep you safe so it spooked me when we lost you." Iris said linking my arm with hers.

"Ugh!" Alexis groaned and fell back on my bed and stretched her arms above her head. "The night was looked so promising!"

She sat up and scowled at me, "You, my-not-so-older-friend, owe us!"

I laughed when I felt Iris stiffen beside me. Her eyes were glazed over and I realized someone was linking her.

"Alpha Cairstay wants you in his office." she said turning to look at me.

I left them in my room and made my way to Alpha Cairstay's office. I raised my hand to knock on the door but before my first made contact with the wood it was wrenched open by Jayden who stood on the other side.

"Come in Layla."

I saw Alpha Cairstay seated behind his big wooden desk and when I walked inside I saw Vivian seated on the couch along the wall.

"Jayden has brought to our attention that last night you were attacked by a man and that he threatened you as well as admitted to murdering your parents. Jayden has suggested you return to your pack for your safety until we can further investigate here. However, I wish for you to return to your pack but to lay low and not tell your pack about this incident. We don't want wolves starting a war which will most likely occur once knowing their Alpha's daughter was attacked. Since we cannot identify him right now, it is possible that he may have insiders and will go back into hiding if he knows he is being hunted."

I nodded and looked at Jayden. He had his arms crossed in front of him and wore a worried look.

"When should I leave for my pack?" I asked.

"Today would be best. I will call Alpha Neal and inform him of your departure. I will just tell him that you weren't feeling well and wanted to return home." Alpha Cairstay said and reached over to his phone.

"Honey, Layla should have someone go with her. As an extra precaution." Vivian said eyeing Jayden and myself.

"You're right. I'll ask Drew to accompany her." Alpha Cairstay said and got up walking around his desk.

"Drew has enough on his plate." Vivian said smiling warmly at her mate, "Let Jayden go!"

I looked up shocked and saw the same emotion written on Jayden's face.

"They have gotten to know each other and I suppose have become friends, she will feel more comfortable with Jayden." Vivian said looking at me from the side of her eye.

"I don't think─" Alpha Cairstay started but was cut off by Vivian.

"They have gotten closer the past few days." Vivian reached forward and rested her hand on his upper arm. She raised her eyebrows and sent a silent message to him.

"Dear, I really don't─"

"Let him go with her," Vivian urged.

"But─"

"Jayden is going with Layla." she said firmly and I could see Alpha Cairstay crumble in front of his mate.

"Ugh! Okay fine." He said and I saw Vivian's beaming face as she reached up and kissed him, "Son, you will accompany Layla to her pack and return the following day."

"Ahem, I think he should at least be given a few weeks to make sure the pack is safe."

"Okay! Listen to your mother! Since she knows something I don't." Alpha Cairstay said and walked out of his office murmuring something about women.

The door closed behind him and I turned around to look at Vivian.

"You two can thank me later." she said sending me a knowing smile.

"Mom, I think you have the wrong idea here. Layla and I aren't─" Jayden began but stopped when she raised her hand to silence him.

"Do you take me for a fool?" she said and Jayden shook his head, "Good, because last time I checked when my son found his mate I thought he would at least have the courtesy to tell me."

My mouth fell open, "H-How?"

"Hun, I know my son and I saw the way he looked at you during our pack dinner. He couldn't take his eyes off you. At first I thought it was just admiration for you but then I noticed the day afterwards he just smiled. A genuine smile, as if he was content with life. A smile that I have only seen on wolves who have found their mates."

She smiled at Jayden and walked towards him. "A mother knows her child."

"Now I want you two to be safe and look out for each other. Be each other's support system and I won't ask why you have hid finding each other but I will respect your decision." She said and walked to the door.

"Your father is clueless so you have nothing to worry about." with one last smile she left.

Jayden and I stood there letting what just happened soak in.

"I guess I'm going home with you, Angel."

"Angel?" I asked and felt his arms wrap around my waist from behind.

He leaned down and his chest moulded against my back. His mouth was level with my ear and his breath was fanning my skin sending delightful shivers down my spine, "You brought me out of my darkness, you're the closest thing to an Angel I have."

He kissed behind my ear and pulled back.

"Time to go pack!" he said.

"I like your mom." I said as I pulled open the door.

I heard his deep chuckle close behind me and he said, "Yeah, she's the best."

**********

I stood in front of the pack house with Alexis and Iris standing on either side of me. They had their arms linked with my own.

"Do you really have to leave so early?" Alexis said pouting.

Both were kept in the dark with why I was going back home and instead were told that I had to return due to school.

"I have to. Sorry. I'm sure I can come visit again. Promise." I said and stepped down to the fancy car that was parked out front.

"Good bye Layla. Stay safe." Vivian said and gave me a hug. I got into the car and looked at Jayden. He had traded his regular jeans for a pair of cotton pants and a fitted shirt. He wore black framed glasses and his hair was brushed back giving a sleek but rugged look.

"I never knew you wore glasses." I said pulling the seat belt over my shoulder.

"Yeah, contacts get irritating while driving for a long time." he turned to me and continued, "You don't like'em Angel?"

Hearing him say Angel warmed my cheeks and judging from the smirk he wore it was obvious what he did to me.

"Let's just go. It's a long drive." I said looking straight and holding my head high.

He chuckled and pulled away driving around to the main gates leaving the pack house grounds. I gulped, nervous about seeing my pack again and wondering how they would react to Jayden. I had told him about my brothers bullying me and Kegan hurting me but I left out the fact that the entire pack was involved in the bullying and how bad it could be.

I sat in silence contemplating how the day would play out. I sat back and listened to the music that filled the car. Jayden was quiet throughout the ride I looked out the window and watched the sun begin to disappear behind the tree line.

I must have dozed off because when I looked outside I saw we were on the gravel path leading up to the pack house. It was late at night and I saw the clock read one thirty-seven. My heart began to beat faster with anticipation and I sat higher up in my seat. Jayden must have sensed my weariness because he reached over and clutched my hand in his own. The sparks between us helped to calm my nerves but the weary feeling didn't go away.

Jayden pulled up to the house and we got out. Jayden went around and retrieved his suitcase and my bag. As Vivian suggested he would be staying with me for a month. I had called Alpha Neal to tell him Jayden would be coming with me for a visit and he was more than happy to welcome him.

I rung the door bell and waited for someone to answer the door. Tony answered the door.

"Hey, sis. To what do we owe this unfortunate return. We thought you finally came to your senses and ran away, we were going to celebrate."

He leaned against the door blocking the entrance. I stayed quiet not having the courage to tell him off.

Jayden stepped into view and Tony looked at him, "Who are you?"

"Jayden Cairstay"

He stood right behind me and I could feel the heat from his body against mine. Tony looked at him and straightened his stance, he stepped aside letting him in.

Jayden walked in first and set the bags beside the steps leading upstairs.

I saw Alpha Neal and Kate step out from the family room and I smiled seeing their faces.

"Oh honey, How are you? Alpha Cairstay said you weren't feeling well." Kate said walking towards me and gave me a hug. She pulled back and looked over my shoulder.

"Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." Kate said and stepped around to shake Jayden's hand. "I'm Kate. Alpha Neal's mate and Layla's mother."

"Jayden. Jayden Cairstay. Alpha Cairstay's eldest." Jayden said and shook her hand.

"Thank you for accompanying my daughter back home. We have a room ready for your stay upstairs. I assume you are tired from the ride here so I'll have my son, Kegan, show you up." Alpha Neal said.

Kegan stood leaning against the wall behind Alpha Neal and I could see Jayden's back twitch. Kegan gave me a blank look and pushed off the wall.

"Kegan. It's nice to meet you." He walked over to Jayden and held his hand out for a handshake.

"Likewise" Jayden said in a tight voice and grabbed his hand for a firm handshake.

I could literally see the tension between them.

Oh shit!
