Chapter 111 Judging by the timeline, they should have encountered each other.
Estrella spotted the soup on his desk with a quick glance. âLooks like I arrived at the perfect moment,â she remarked breezily.
As she said that, she plopped the stack of documents she was carrying onto the desk and reached for the insulated soup container.
Jason couldnât let Estrella open that thermos. He grabbed his phone and said, âIâll have Drew take it out.â
Estrella said, âNo, donât waste the effort she put in.â As she spoke, she took the insulated thermos and said, âLet me see if I could learn a thing or two.â
Jason watched her, curious to see what trick she might pull as she opened the container. Estrella took her time, savoring the soup Serene had simmered, then looked up at Jason, âYou want some?â
Jason smirked. âIâm only interested in your notorious juice.â
â
Estrella burst into laughter, almost spitting out the mouthful she had just taken.
Once the laughter subsided, she pushed the container aside and set her gaze on Jason. âGo through these papers, will you? If there are no snags, Iâll take them back to the firm.â
She wasnât upset about bumping into Serene. Jason looked up at her, intrigued. âHand them over. Letâs have a look.â
Estrella saw right through his gaze, grabbed the documents, and sauntered over, planting herself squarely on his lap. âWhat are you up to? Some office shenanigans?â
Jason laughed out loud, wrapping his arms around her waist and giving it a playful squeeze. âLike they say, âbirds of a feather.â
You know me too well.â
Estrella snatched his hand and shoved a pen into it. âSign these papers quick. Iâve got a pile of cases back at the office.â
Jason circled her waist with his arms, spinning her to face him as she straddled his lap. âWhy didnât you wait up for me last night?â He had been out late, and when he returned. past eleven, Estrella was already asleep. Now, he was teasing her for it.
Estrella chuckled. âWhat, should I stay up all night when you donât come home?â It wasnât the first time this had happened.
Jasonâs hands crept up her back, kneading her neck, easing the tension as he spoke. âAre you keeping tabs on me for the past?â
Heâd promised to come home once a week, but lately, heâd been there almost every night. Estrella nudged him. âJust sign the papers already.â
1/3 Chapter 111 He pulled her closer, and Estrella felt the familiar stir of his body against hers, making her want to curse. She pinched his cheek and said, âJason, have you no shame? Any time, any place, youâre ready to go.â She remembered the days when she doubted his vigor.
Jason nibbled her ear, whispering, âLetâs make up for last night first, then Iâll sign.â
Estrella asked, âWhat kind of place is this? What do you take me for?â
âWe are married. What do you think I take you for?â Without waiting for Estrella to respond, Jason added, âIf you mind, we can go home now.â
Before Estrelle could respond, Jason lifted her skirt. As Jason went in like that, Estrella took a deep breath. Jason kissed her and said, âBear with it. Weâll make it up later tonight when we get home.â
Estrella retorted, âIâm working late tonight, an all-nighter.â
Jason chuckled, then captured her lips with his. His shamelessness was something else, Estrella thought. She would never go to Nelson International with a skirt again.
Actually, even in pants, Jason would find a way.
After Jasonâs antics finally subsided, Estrella straightened her clothes, but couldnât shake off the feeling of a clandestine rendezvous. After she got dressed and Jason finished signing the documents, she was ready to leave. But Jason also stood up and said, âIâll drive you.â
âNo need, I drove here,â Estrella said, not keen on public displays of their relationship.
Ignoring her protests, Jason took the papers and led her out. Estrella pulled her hand back. âIâm still on the market, so donât ruin my single image.â
At her joke, Jason gave her a quick kiss. âWeâll see who dares to be your next.â
After the kiss, someone came out of the office-it was Drew. Estrella relaxed a bit and stepped on Jasonâs foot, warning him to behave.
As they exchanged pleasantries with Drew, Drew couldnât help but feel happy for them, realizing why Jason had been in such a good mood lately.
Once Jason and Estrella turned the corner toward the elevator, the office buzzed with gossip.
âEstrella looks different today, but man, sheâs gorgeous. She and Jason are such a match.â âEstrellaâs got vibes, something Serene just canât compete with.â
âWhat was the deal with Serene and Jason anyway? He doesnât seem that into her.â
âWho knows? But it feels like thereâs something between Jason and Estrella.â
The chatter continued as Serene, about to step out of her office, retreated instead, not 2/3 Chapter 111 ready to face the rumors. Serene longed to exude the same confidence as Estrella, to walk with her head held high, but her humble family background couldnât provide her with that kind of assurance.
Before long, they were downstairs, and when the driver brought the car around, Jason didnât ask him to drive. He opened the door himself and ushered Estrella in.
No sooner had the car started than Estrella received a call from a client. By the time she hung up, they were already miles away from Nelson International.
Jason gripped the steering wheel with both hands and glanced at Estrella, saying, âYouâre even busier than I am at work.â
Ever since he had witnessed her in court, Jason refrained from calling her a ârookie lawyer.â
Before Estrella could respond, he asked, âWhat about when youâre pregnant?â
With a smile, Estrella replied, âYour mom said the baby will just pass through my belly, and once itâs born, I wonât have to worry about a thing.â
After her comment, Estrella noticed that Jason wasnât driving towards her law firm. She turned to him and asked, âThis isnât the way back to my office. Where are you taking me?â
âYou canât seriously think that sipping on soup counts as lunch. Weâre going to grab something to eat first.â
âIâm not hungry.â
âThen youâll keep me company while I eat.â
He had a sensitive stomach, and lately, Estrellaâs hadnât been feeling great either. They really should take care of themselves.
They wouldnât want the baby to inherit their issues Moments later, the car pulled up in front of a cozy bistro, and Jason, holding Estrellaâs hand, led her out. It was as if the old Jason, who used to keep his distance from Estrella in public, was someone else entirely.
âMr. Jason.â
âMr. Jason.â
Jason was a regular, and as soon as he walked in, the staff greeted him warmly. The owner, hearing that Jason had arrived, hurried out to meet him, âMr. Jason.â
Noticing that he had brought a lady with him today, the owner asked with a beaming smile, âMr. Jason, who might this be?â
