Chapter 21: 21.

Storm ≛ Tony Stark ≛Words: 9358

Sue introduced Johnny to Tony officially. The two shook hands and Sue filled Tony in on SHIELD finding Johnny on the Marvel-1, which resulted in Tony retorting that Johnny was SHIELD's flaming lab rat. Johnny didn't take offence to this and came back with a comment about how he was the one who pushed the rotor when the helicarrier's engine failed. Sue stood to the side as the two went back and forth, before breathing a sigh of relief when Tony grew a smirk and said,

'You're alright, torch. I'll let you work with me.'

'Work with you? You're joking right?'

Tony worked on his suit that was damaged from the rotor situation. He sat at a desk with protective glasses over his eyes and used a blowtorch to seal the lining of his helmet. JARVIS's system was back online and the lights through the eyeholes of the mask lit up, awakened from its slumber.

Sue was nearby tying her hair up into a ponytail. She was well rested and was certain she would be at full capability once they arrived in New York. Tony would be heading in first to the Stark tower where they were sure Loki was. The rest of the team would fly in a quinjet to get on the ground and see what the situation was. They prepared for the worst and the unexpected.

'It's going to be dangerous, you know,' Tony spoke up from his seat. Sue turned around and saw him concentrating on welding parts of his suit back together.

'I'm aware,' she replied. 'Not getting cold feet, are you?'

'Me?' Tony scoffed. 'If I get cold feet, tell Johnny to come and burn them off for me.'

Sue laughed as she walked across the room to stand next to the table he worked on. Tony watched her and looked up at her smiling face. When Loki escaped, he was worried about Sue. He saw her fall through the floor when the explosion went off and didn't have to time to make sure if she was okay. Instead, he suited up and kept the live data JARVIS got from her suit. Every jump in her heartrate and every dip of her body temperature distracted him. And when he heard from Natasha that her and Sue were nearly clobbered by Bruce, he wished he had been there.

'You don't... you don't think I push you to the side when I save the day, do you?'

Sue remembered what Steve said to Tony when they were all under the influence of Loki's scepter. His words against Tony was something Sue downplayed. They weren't themselves and Steve's comments about Tony being the hero of the day while Sue helped by protecting him with forcefields was nothing. But Tony thought different.

'Well...' Sue started and Tony grimaced, making her put her hands up in a 'wait' motion. 'No, no, I don't think that at all. You're Iron Man. The media are the ones who think you're the greatest.'

'But you're so powerful. I've seen you out there. You're fast, strong, you're near unmatched. You're... amazing...'

Sue's lips parted as Tony looked up at her. The two stared into each other's eyes and were infatuated. Sue noticed how his brown eyes sunk into black as they reached the outer rim of his irises. His facial hair sat finely styled around his mouth and along his jaw. There were a few grey hairs that grew from the patches just above his ears, but Tony was still as alluring and attractive as his younger days.

Tony stood to his feet but didn't move away from Sue. Her eyes were a dark abyss that he fell into every time he stared at them. Her long eyelashes touched her brow bones so delicately and when they fluttered from her blinks, he felt his heart beat that little bit faster. Her high cheeks bones worked so well with her sharp jaw that he thought Sue had been made by angels. The pink lips he wished so badly to touch sat waiting, teasing him.

'You're not so bad yourself,' Sue whispered, and Tony felt a large smile spread across his face. He didn't often display his genuine smile; it was always a smirk or a sarcastic stretch of the lips. Sue loved to see the way his eyes halved into crescent moons and how his perfect teeth shone through.

'You should be suiting up...'

'I know.'

Tony lowered his lips down to Sue's. Their eyes slid shut at the pure bliss that came from their lips finally touching. Tony's fingertips brushed against Sue's cheeks, and she placed her hands on his sides. They didn't accelerate the kiss. It was enough to have the small connection they had both been longing for.

The sound of a throat being cleared made them pull away abruptly. They turned to the door and saw Steve and Johnny standing there with similar smug expressions. The two had acquainted when they spoke to Director Fury about their next plan of action. Steve took charge at gathering Natasha, Clint (who was an agent that was recently broken from Loki's mind control), Tony and Sue, who they unsurprisingly found together.

'Fury said he wants me in New York,' Johnny decided to say, the smirk staying on his face.

'Great. Tell your dad we'll have you back before curfew,' Tony remarked in attempt to regain his cool. But Johnny was too busy indulging in the pink that grew on his younger sister's face to care.

'Selvig's been spotted on top of Stark tower,' Steve informed. 'We leave in five. Can you be ready by then?'

'Of course,' Sue wouldn't meet their eyes and took a step away from Tony. She kept her gaze on the table and waited for Johnny and Steve to leave the room. She heard their chuckles down the hall and she knew she would never hear the end of this.

'We should suit up,' Tony said, trying to distract them both from what just happened.

'Good idea.'

When the quinjet arrived at New York, the battle had already begun. The portal above the city was open and aliens flew down on chariots with rifles and bayonets in hand. The Chitauri army were ugly and suited in gold armour. They fired energy-based shots into the streets and exploded cars as they flew above and through buildings.

City dwellers ran and screamed as their cars caught fire and debris from buildings fell from the sky. The Chitauri chariots rode above and fired their bayonets down, injuring men, women and children alike.

The police rolled in with the U.S army and tried to take control by firing their guns and tanks up at the aliens. But the portal only allowed more to fly through to Earth, making it impossible to win any battle.

From inside the quinjet, Clint drove with Natasha by his side. Steve and Susan were preparing in the back and saw the extent of the Chitauri army from looking out the front windscreen. Sue was in her red suit and Steve in his Captain America armour, his shield at the ready and Sue feeling powerful for the fight.

'Stark, we're heading north east,' Natasha said to Tony through his suit.

'What, did you stop for drive-thru?' Sue heard him say and rolled her eyes. 'Swing up park, I'm gonna lay 'em out for you.'

Sue saw Tony fly past in his suit as the quinjet fired at the Chitauri that followed him. Natasha worked the weapon controls while Clint steered them around the buildings that Tony weaved through with ease. They made it to the Stark tower where they saw Loki and Thor battling on the balcony. With Thor's hammer and Loki's scepter, the brothers fought while Natsaha began firing at the man who started it all. The demi-god grew irritated from their intrusion and fired a blast to the quinjet.

Warning messages flared from the controls as the jet spun and descended into the city. Clint did his best to manoeuvre past buildings, but there was no way he could keep the jet in the air. In the back, Sue and Steve held onto the handles that hung from the ceiling and watched through the windscreen as they fell past the skyscraper tops.

'I think now would be a good time for a forcefield!' Steve said over the noise of beeping signs and mayday calls.

Sue powered her energy through her body and felt it surge off her. From outside the jet, the outline of a sphere was formed around the falling vessel. The shimmer of blue scraped against the sides of buildings that would otherwise be destroyed without the protection of the forcefield. The collision with the street below wasn't the softest and still shook the Avengers inside, but they were unharmed from the fall.

'Nice,' Steve stood to his full height and clapped his hand onto Sue's shoulder. She let out a loud breath of relief and was glad she had practiced as much as she did.

With the forcefield dissolved and the jet on the street, the four exited with their respected weapons in hand. Sue looked around at the chaos and disarray everything was in. Rubble covered the pathways and cars sat overturned from explosions. People were stained with ash and injuries as they ran around the fallen ship and past Natasha, Clint, Steve and Sue.

They looked to the sky as a loud roar came from the portal. From the sky of space, a large Chitauri leviathan descended onto the city. The monster carried more of the Chitauri army who deployed from its back and landed on buildings to descend down to the streets below. They fired their weapons at people who helplessly ran from the aliens whose goals were to kill.

'Stark? Are you seeing this?' Steve said into his earpiece. The four on the ground watched in awe as the leviathan smashed into buildings and destroyed everything in its wake.

'Seeing, still working on believing,' Tony's voice was heard through everyone's earpiece. 'Where's Banner? Has he shown up yet?'

'Banner?'

'Just keep me posted. Where's the torch?'
