"...you're words sure as hell aren't helping you"
A few days after the meeting, Connor and Evelyn were just relaxing in the bed in Evelyn's room, cuddling. The conversation had stopped a little while ago and both of them were just relaxing in each other's embrace when Connor found himself going over the thought of the witches.
"Are you still thinking about the witch?"
Connor stilled but recovered quickly, "I am actually thinking about Selena."
Evelyn turned her head to look at her mate and Connor wrapped his arms around her tighter.
"She didn't speak to you?" she asked, a little worried.
"She did," Connor said and gently rested his chin on Evelyn's forehead before speaking again, "She isn't speaking much actually. She is channelling all her energy in training."
"Well maybe she just wants to get her power back, she did train the pack before these happened."
"It's more than that." Connor shook his head. "I am just afraid that she is channelling all of her feelings into training. It's actually a good thing, but I don't think it will help her as much as talking can."
"Your sister is actually one of the strongest she-wolves I know," Evelyn said.
"Yeah... My dad taught her everything he knew. He also taught her never to give up on her soul mate."
Evelyn stayed silent but then when has she ever been one to filter her words? And she sure as hell wasn't gonna do that with her mate, "He did the right thing."
Connor looked at the window but Evelyn saw his jaw tensing, "I hoped she didn't have to go through all that pain, but all relationships require effort. My brother..."
"As much as I wanna punch your brother right now," Connor interrupted Evelyn making her look at him with a stern face, Connor too turned to look at her with a smirk, "and as much as I hate to accept it. I might have done the same thing I was in his place."
"And I would have understood it."
"You would have forgiven me?" Connor asked surprised.
"I never said that. In fact, I might not have stayed through it." They both remained quiet but Connor unconsciously pulled her closer into his chest, "I admire her."
"Xavier said he'll call your pack warlock, who is this guy?"
"Lorcan?" Evelyn asked sitting up, surprising Connor.
"Is that the guy's name?"
"Is he actually coming here?" Evelyn asked smiling wide.
"After you're done obsessing over this warlock, do tell me about him. I'd like to know what about him is worth fawning over."
Evelyn knew exactly what her words were doing to him, and she damn well enjoyed it too.
"Lorcan was the guy who spent a lot of time with us growing up. Witches and warlocks are immortal, as you know. So when we were kids and he came to consult some business with dad, he was this fun uncle whom we could hang out with. Now, he's the family friend everyone loves. He's basically the guy who taught me all of my pranks and tricks."
Connor sat up too and was slowly closing the distance between her and but Evelyn was actually a lot focused on what she was saying.
"Lorcan is..."
Evelyn shrieked when Connor pulled her back on the bed and hovered over her. He stared at her as she looked at him innocently with her eyes wide.
"Can Lorcan do this?" Connor breathed as he lowered his head and took her lips in a kiss. Evelyn's hands instantly found them wrapped in his hair and Connor growled when she tugged on it.
"If this is you jealous, I might just make you jealous more often," Evelyn smirked mischievously.
Connor lowered himself further to feel her body against his own and lowered his lips kissing her jaw and then the side of her neck, "I can't wait to mark you here," Connor said in between the kisses making Evelyn squirm and moan.
A knock sounded on the door making Evelyn holding Connor tighter and him groaning.
"Ignore him," Evelyn said, when she smelled Aiden's scent, "He'll leave after a while."
The knock next time sounded frantic and the couple stilled on the bed.
Connor took a deep breath and pushed himself up to stand. Evelyn peeked a glance at her mate only to see the tightened front of his sweatpants.
Evelyn wasn't one to be shy or embarrassed. But somehow, Connor had the power to make her blush.
Connor smirked at his mate making her look away from him and opened the door only for Aiden to burst in.
"Why are you two always closed off in this room?!" Aiden said dramatically and looked at Evelyn, who looked at her little brother with a bored expression and Connor simply looked amused.
"Remember to take a breath, Aiden," Connor said as he lied back down on the bed.
"What?" Aiden asked looking at Evelyn and she turned to Connor.
On seeing Evelyn, Aiden too looked at Connor, and this time, Aiden eyes fell on the tent on his pants.
"Oh, Goddess..." Aiden said looking away instantly, "Really guys!" He said and threw his hands up.
"What? She's my mate." Connor smirked at Aiden's embarrassed face.
Aiden closed his eyes, making Connor grin, and then with a deep breath he shook his head as if to shake off these thoughts, "I met Selena, she told me Xavier called her to his office. As far as I know, Xavier is going to the Blood Moon Pack tomorrow and he was with Ryan in his office. He might try to include her in some decision or leadership activities."
Connor sat up, "She might flip."
Aiden nodded, "Can you go and check on them?"
Connor nodded but lied down again.
Aiden frowned, "Connor? You need to go and see what's happening!"
"Me going there with this," Connor pointed at his pants, "won't help any of them."
Aiden blushed and turned around, "Go soon."
He walked out.
Connor chuckled and Evelyn looked at Connor, "You really like him, don't you?"
"Aiden?" Connor asked as he laid back and closed his eyes.
"Mhmm," Evelyn mumbled.
"He reminds me of Jayce."
"Who's Jayce?" Evelyn asked lying beside her mate.
"Jayce was supposed to lead the pack with Selena as her Beta. Aiden reminds me of him."
Evelyn didn't ask anything more, knowing that it would only make him upset.
"I'll go check what's going on," Connor said and got up from the bed.

Selena was strolling in the garden when she felt Xavier's presence in her mind, the alpha wanted to connect a link with her. As Selena was only a member of his pack and they hadn't sealed their mating bond yet, Xavier could have easily just connected the link. But he waited for her to accept it, as a sign of respect.
Selena ignored it the first time and kept walking, she wasn't far away from the packhouse. She was just enjoying the fresh air.
Xavier tried to connect the link again, and this time Selena accepted it.
'What?' She asked simply.
'Can you please come to my office? It is urgent.'
'Do I have to?'
'I would appreciate it if you did.'
Selena sighed and closed off the link.
Xavier too didn't push her. He knew it was gonna get him the complete opposite of what he wanted.
"Is she coming?" Ryan asked, sitting opposite the table.
"I asked her to. I am not sure if she will though."
The two of them sat silently for a while until Connor walked in.
"How's she doing?" Xavier asked looking at Connor.
"She's training, a lot," Connor answered as he stood by the window looking at the woods. "Did you try to talk to her?"
"I did a few times," Xavier said in a low voice, "She wouldn't let me connect a mind link with her."
"What about in person?" Ryan asked this time.
Xavier shook his head, "I tried, but every time she sees me she has this look on her face, like she can't deal with me at that point."
"So you turn away and let her go?" Connor asked and when Xavier nodded he walked until he was beside him, "She does that to buy her time. Talk to her. She might not listen to just yet, but with time she will."
Connor patted his shoulder making the guy nod and he went back to the window. He saw Selena making her way into the packhouse.
"She's coming."
Connor sat on the window seal waiting for her to arrive. Ryan prepared himself in case of things got out of hand and Xavier just focused on his computer screen.
'Do you think she will forgive me?' Xavier asked Zion.
'I don't know.' Xavier felt a pit in his stomach but he didn't say a word. 'Sometimes even though they understand why we had to do something, the pain it brings is too much.'
'Did Izzy communicate with you?'
'No,' Zion whimpered, 'we are both getting the silent treatment.'
Selena walked into the room with a nonchalant look and closed the door. She went to the window as well and leaned on the wall beside it looking at Xavier.
"Hey, Selena. Thanks for coming," Xavier said smiling but she could see the pain hiding behind it. She just nodded. His smile fell but he returned her nod and went back to some files.
"Hello, Selena!" Ryan smiled too.
"Hey, Ryan." Selena smiled back. However, from the corner of her eye, she saw Xavier stiffen slightly. Connor observed it too but remained quiet.
Izzy scoffed in her mind.
'Calm down,' Selena whispered in her mind.
'Seriously! He needs to understand that he has hurt us the most. Ryan was just following his orders.'
'I know.' Selena sighed.
"Ryan I'm going to the Blood Moon tomorrow to discuss the current situation. So you have to take care of the pack, all the file work and stuff. Connor, please look over the border patrols. Ryan won't be able to do it as he would have a lot more work."
When both of the men nodded Xavier turned towards Selena, "Will you please take care of the training until I come back? Roy can help you but he still isn't ready completely."
Selena raised an eyebrow, "I don't think so, Alpha."
"Selena," he said, more like pleaded, "I really need your help, please don't make this more difficult for me."
"Oh come on, Xavier! Damien is here and he is very well capable of training your pack members. I'm not your puppet that I'm gonna do everything you ask me to. Get him or Aiden to do it. I'm out of here."
"Selena I'm not done here."
"And it's so clear that I care isn't it?" She asked right back.
There was no specific reason for Selena to not do it. She was just egging him on, waiting for him to make a mistake.
Connor too realised what his sister was doing and sighed mentally, these two were way too similar for their own good.
"Selena, you are the Luna, you are supposed to take care of the pack as well."
Selena stopped in her tracks and turned around with fire in her eyes. They landed on Xavier's, which held pain and more than anything, guilt.
"Am I?" Ryan flinched at her tone. He, as the beta, was not comfortable with the way Selena was talking to his alpha, but Selena had alpha blood too, and she was also his Luna, even if she denied it. "Because that last time I checked, Xavier I was so many things but nothing close to a Luna. Omega, traitor, disappointment, loser and it will go on forever. So I am not supposed to do anything, Alpha Xavier."
Xavier stood with his lips in a tight line as he tried to read her. But she was not an open book anymore.
"Selena, I'm sorry. I don't know what else to say I'm....."
"Then don't, Xavier. Don't say anything because your words sure as hell aren't helping you. You're an alpha. Pay more attention to your work than this drama."
