"Leave me alone, Alpha Xavier"
Connor entered the alpha's office to find Xavier sitting on his chair just looking out the window. He wanted to go meet his mate before he went to see Selena, who was getting out of the hospital on that day.
Xavier turned on sensing Connor and gave him a smile, asking him to sit down. Connor did feel bad when he saw Xavier, the man looked tired, exhausted even. There was lethargy in his movements and he had dark circles under his eyes.
However, whatever empathy Connor felt for Xavier was not as strong as seeing his sister on the hospital bed.
"You called?" he asked as he sat on the chair.
"Yeah, I was wondering if you'd like to be a member of this pack." Connor raised his eyebrows without saying anything, he certainly hadn't expected that question at least not so soon.
Xavier saw the confusion on Connor's face and spoke again, "Selena's been accepted into this pack. I don't know what her decision will be about staying here in future but I'd like to believe that I'll be able to make up to her and she'd choose to stay here. She'd want her brother with her."
Connor nodded thoughtfully.
"Also, since you are not a part of any pack right now, and you are Evelyn's mate, I think you would like to settle here."
That's when Connor looked a bit caught off guard. Xavier smiled slightly but didn't let it turn into a grin.
"Evelyn came to me yesterday."
"I don't know what she told you but..."
"Connor," Xavier stopped him, "I don't wanna intrude in your relationship. But as her brother, I'd just request you; please, don't take my anger out on her, or on my other family members."
"I had a moment of weakness. I didn't mean to take it out on her or Ileana."
"I hope so because my sister didn't do anything to get her heart broken by her mate."
"Neither did mine, Xavier." Connor retorted angrily. When he saw that Xavier was not going to respond, he stood up and walked to the door.
"Look," he paused to say a few words, "I don't wanna fight you. You are not actually the problem here, at least not for me, but I cannot just overlook every bit of pain you've caused my sister. Also, when it comes to Evelyn, I will talk to her. Don't worry, I won't hurt her."
"I wanted you to be the Head Warrior of this pack."
"So soon?"
"With the hunters just around the corner, I need to talk to my allies and a lot of other important stuff, and I'd need Ryan with me. You are the one man I can trust."
"Sure," Connor shrugged, "That'd be nice."
"Great, I'll introduce you to the pack tomorrow before training."
"Cool."
When Connor walked out of the room, he saw Ryan and Evelyn standing around the corner and talking. He walked up to them and smiled.
"I was just going to find you."
"You found me," Evelyn said with a smile that seemed fake.
"Okay so... did you tell Xavier about us being mates? Because I don't know when he found out the time to figure that out."
Ryan shook his head with a smile and Evelyn scoffed, "He is damn good in his job. He is very observant. I'm not surprised he caught it." She stared at Connor.
"I'm just gonna leave you two and the sexual tension here and find my best friend," Ryan smirked and walked towards Xavier's office and Connor asked Evelyn to take a walk with him.
Evelyn rolled her eyes and started walking even though her heart was beating faster now. She really wasn't one to put up with shit she didn't deserve, so she really hoped that Connor wouldn't do that to her.
Selena on the other hand was still resting on her hospital bed. It was only one day but she was already tired of staring at the white walls of the hospital. Dr. Stevens was supposed to come back with her release papers and he had said it'll only take a few seconds but he still wasn't there.
A knock sounded on the door and Selena turned to find Mason there. He smiled and first told her that she was now ready to leave. Connor had also come with him. Mason looked like he wanted to say something, but he didn't. he stayed quiet and then looked at Connor for a while and then turned back to Selena again, "Try to shift at least once every day."
When Mason walked out, Selena turned towards Connor who also looked thoughtful.
"What was he hiding?" She asked straight away.
Connor frowned, "You are so much like dad... no beating around the bush."
Selena rolled her eyes, "Just tell me. I have been reading people since I can remember. So just tell me or I will go after him and interrogate him until he tells me."
"I am gonna go get myself a cup of coffee," Connor said, confusing Selena.
"Okay...?"
"Find me in the cafeteria after you are done speaking with Xavier."
Connor didn't wait for another second after saying this and Selena's face became Stoic just as Xavier entered the room. Did he know that she had made up with Ryan? Does he expect her to do the same?
It didn't matter, she thought. Ryan is only her closest friend, he is her soul mate. She hoped he understood that it wasn't the same. And even if he didn't, Selena really didn't have the energy to care.
"Alpha," she said, Xavier flinched but covered it up quickly. "Can I help you with anything, alpha?" She asked. This time, he didn't flinch, but the sadness was pretty clear on his face.
"How are you doing?" he asked, more like whispered.
"I'm absolutely perfect, Alpha. Feeling better than I have in months." She smiled which looked more like a smirk and he just nodded with a pitiful smile. "Did you need anything from me?" She enquired again.
"Can I not come here just to see you? You're my mate," he said, however, as soon as he finished his sentence, guilt flooded his face.
Selena chose not to say anything to this. She just rolled her eyes and looked away. After everything, did he really expect her to smile sweetly and fall in his arms? She scoffed internally; did he forget she was his mate in the last month?
"You don't have to do all that so called punishment anymore. You don't have to..." He started but she didn't let him finish.
"I wasn't exactly planning on doing that, alpha. That little game that was going on here now is over. I don't care if you believe me or not. Kick me out of the pack if you don't, I don't care."
Xavier nodded silently before he smiled sadly, "I'm glad I didn't break you down completely."
"Oh, but you did. You humiliated my wolf, you took away my birth rank, and in doing that you humiliated my family. You killed me." Xavier stared at her as she continued. "This is a new person, one who doesn't let anyone push her around. The princess is turning into an Alpha, Alpha Xavier. Make sure you and your pack are prepared for that."
"I am your culprit and I will take any punishment you want me to accept. I'll show you how sorry I am for everything I did to you."
"Your apologies really don't affect me."
"Selena... "
"Leave me alone, Alpha Xavier."
"I was never going to marry the heir of the Blood Moon Pack. I don't know where you heard the rumour but that was never the plan. I was going to discuss our plan against the hunters."
Selena chuckled darkly, "You just don't get it, do you? I. Don't. Care."
"Scott is dead," Xavier said and this time she looked at him, "I had killed him the very next day." Selena had already understood and Xavier didn't continue any further.
Selena raised a single eyebrow, "So?"
Xavier shook his head, "Just thought you should know."
She shrugged.
"The time you felt Stacy touching me, was the same night that he... I was drunk, and I pushed her off me."
"Alpha, you're holding me back from leaving this hospital," she said sternly.
"You're never gonna forgive me about this," Xavier whispered.
"I don't know. I don't know if I should or even if I ever can."
"At least give me a chance, please?" Selena's heart almost broke on hearing his voice so lost and broken but she held her front.
"Isn't that something I said before you punished me?" she asked shutting him off, "I need time, Xavier, and a lot of it. I was already broken when I came here. You... you built me up and broke me all over again, and I am so far beyond being put together anymore."
He looked at her, his eyes were sunken and his face pale, it wasn't hard to say that he didn't sleep these last few days at all. But Selena wouldn't let herself care anymore.
Xavier just nodded and left, only after saying, "I'll make it up to you I promise."

Two weeks had gone by since the time Selena had been released from the hospital and since she stopped being the punching pack. She threw herself back into intense training. She couldn't forget how helpless she felt throughout the whole time and she just had to get back into shape.
She didn't meet Xavier in these two weeks at all. She spent all her time either with Connor and Evelyn, Aiden and sometimes Ileana too, or with Damien and Adriana. Even though she told Ryan she had forgiven him, she still couldn't find it in her to go back to how they were before.
So now that she had to go out to the pack meeting where she was sure to see Xavier and Ryan and all those people who abused her and treated her like trash, she wasn't very eager about the day anymore.
However, she was not going to avoid any of it.
The meeting was basically announcing to his pack members that he had made a mistake, that she was not a traitor. He apologized to Selena and to the whole pack as well. After that, all the pack members came and apologized to her as well. Selena smiled politely at them and when the ones who abused her came to apologise with the horrifying look of guilt, she just nodded and turned away.
The only one who Selena hadn't seen was Stacy, however, she did hear Xavier asking someone about her.
"She is in your room, alpha," a pack member named Vernon said.
Xavier closed his eyes and sighed angrily, "Why the hell is she in my room?!"
"I tried to tell her to leave alpha but..." Vernon was nervous, his voice gave it away.
"No, it is okay, Vernon. Not your fault that she is as stubborn as a werewolf can be. I'll handle it myself," Xavier said angrily.
In the next minute, he screamed in his spine chilling alpha voice asking for Stacy to present herself in the room. The voice was so full of authority that it even sent shivers down Selena's spine, pleasant shivers, which she wouldn't be acknowledging any time soon.
Selena looked away from him and towards the stairs when she felt him looking at her. This was not the time to let thoughts like those take over her mind.
Selena and Aiden who were sitting together at the time almost laughed out which Aiden covered up by clearing his throat and Selena just put on her blank face as Stacy stumbled down the last few steps landing directly in front of Xavier.
"I believe I told you to stay out of my room, Stacy," he said, his voice was too calm in contrast to his scream a minute ago.
"I just went because I wanted to talk to you about something. You weren't there so I thought I'll just wait," she said and started playing with her hair innocently. She took another step forward and smiled at Xavier to put his hand on his chest.
A growl was bubbling in Selena's chest when she saw Stacy but she gritted her teeth together to not say anything.
Xavier growled and gripped her hand pretty tightly as she whimpered.
"It's my final warning, Stacy. You need to start obeying my orders. One more slip and I'm going to throw you out of the pack. I don't want to make you a rogue, I am trying to respect our years of friendship. But I will take severe steps against you if I have to," he said and threw her hand away like it burned him. Then, Xavier hummed.
"I believe I also ordered everyone to be present in this meeting and you blatantly disobeyed me," he said, pushing his hands inside the pockets of his jeans as he looked at her again. His posture was oozing dominance.
"I was just coming Xavier."
"It's Alpha to you, Stacy. And when were you planning on coming, after the meeting ended?" his voice rose in the end.
Stacy was so shocked at Xavier's outburst that she just stared at him wide eyed. Angry Xavier is not a pretty sight. Xavier had never been this furious at any of his pack members before.
"Tongue tied, huh Stacy?"
"No a-alpha. I... I was just..." Stacy began but was cut off.
"Save it, I don't have time for this shit. Apologize to her. Now." He put extra pressure on the last word.
"I'm sorry, Selena." she said as if the words burned her.
"For...?" Xavier pushed. He was in no-nonsense mode.
"I'm sorry for hitting you and disrespecting you, for not letting you eat and for treating you in a way no one should be treated." Her face was red from embarrassment. Selena just nodded with a blank face but she was pretty amused to see her like that.
Xavier dismissed the wolf when Selena didn't say anything and walked to where Ryan was.
