ALPHA JORDAN
As I look at the little witch, I feel a sudden jolt, like a current of electricity shooting through my veins.
My wolf paces frantically, as eager to understand this new feeling as I am.
Her eyes shift, the green lightens ever so slightly. Can she feel it too?
â~Alpha, Lady Laurent wishes to speak with you. She is being ratherâ¦adamant~.â
â~We just found the location where the ritual will take place. I will head back shortly. Tell her to wear the damn amulet.~â
I close off the link, feeling more than a little irritated with the interruption.
âWe should get going. I can find my way to the cabin on my own.â
I narrow my eyes at her, wondering what gave away the conversation I just had with Danny. Is she that sensitive? âI can take you back; itâs not a problem.â
She begins walking toward the shore, keeping her eyes lowered. âYou should hurry back, Alpha. You shouldnât keep your people waiting. I promise I will be fine.â She grabs her bag and begins to walk away.
My feet make the decision to take me to her. Before my mind can process what Iâm doing, Iâm next to her, and I grab her hand.
âWhatâs wrong?â She keeps her eyes lowered, but the small gasp that slips past her lips when I take her hand in mine is all the confirmation I need.
Whatever this energy is between us, she feels it too.
âYou need to get back. Your future luna is waiting for you, and I need to prepare for the ritual.â She pulls her hand free and continues walking, leaving me with a flood of unfamiliar emotions.
I get that sheâs trying to be respectful. Thatâs why sheâs pushing me away.
I head back toward the pack house, hoping the quiet walk will help me clear my mind. By the time I arrive, my thoughts are more muddled than before.
âAlpha, she is in your chambers.â
My head whips up, and I find Danny shifting nervously in front of me.
âWhy the fuck is she in my room?â
He sighs loudly and throws his hands in the air.
âShe wouldnât listen. I told her you werenât here and that she was not allowed in your chambers, but she stormed past me and threatened to call her father if I laid a hand on her.â
âGood man.â I pat him on the shoulder and walk through the back entrance of the pack house, not stopping until I am standing in front of the door to my private chambers.
I throw open the door to find her sitting on the edge of my bedâan act that both enrages and disgusts me in ways I am not sure I understand.
âWhat the hell do you think you are doing?â
She jumps up and walks toward me, the over-exaggerated swaying of her hips only further adding to the disgust I feel toward her.
âI havenât seen you all day. I was beginning to think that nasty little witch might have done something to you.â
My wolf growls at her insult, and I feel him trying to push forward. I force him back down. Then my eyes fall on her bare neck.
âWhere is your amulet? I told Danny to tell you to put it on.â
She takes a small step back and scowls at me. âI donât need help creating a bond with you. I already feel it. Donât you?â
I growl loudly. I like that she jumps back.
âI feel nothing for you. If you cannot do something so simple as wearing an amulet to help create a bond that will ensure the future of both of our people, then how can you ever be a good enough luna to lead my pack?â
Her mouth opens and closes several times, but no words come out. I know Iâm risking everything. Without a mate, without an heir, Iâll lose my status in my pack.
I walk past her, going to my walk-in closet and grabbing clean, dry clothes. I had hoped she was smart enough to be gone by the time I was dressed.
âJordan, I will wear the damn amulet. Hell, I will go and put it on right now. I already feel connected to you. But if witch magic is what it takes for you to feel connected to me, I will do it.â
I take a few large, menacing steps toward her. My anger burns in my veins. âThe only reason you are here is because of an arrangement made by our parents. Do not think for a moment that I want you here. You are a means to ensure the future of my pack, nothing more. Wear the amulet, or donât. If the ritual fails, it will be because you couldnât follow simple directions. Now, get the fuck out of my room.â
She turns and rushes out, thankfully without speaking.
âWell, that must have felt amazing.â Danny is standing in my doorway. He smirks, clearly amused by my outburst.
