Let me go, Mr. Hill [by Shallow South] Chapter 394 Catherine noticed the awkward emotions that flashed across Shaunâs face before he smiled naturally.
âIt was decided after an internal discussion.â
âI seeâ¦â she murmured.
She might not take it to heart if he had told her the truth.
Perhaps he had no idea that she already knew the existence of the woman named Sarah.
This had happened again and again. He always let her down whenever she decided to truly accept him.
âLetâs not talk about that anymore. Whatâs this?â He waved the invitation card in his hand.
She remembered leaving it on the desk after coming home. âMelanie invited me.â
âShe invited me too.â He chuckled before saying, âShe must think marrying Charlie Campos is worth showing off.â
Catherine was speechless.
That woman even invited her ex-boyfriend. It seemed like tomorrow would be an interesting day.
âWell⦠You donât have to go. Just ignore it.â He threw the invitation card away.
âWhat about you?â She looked him in the eye.
âIâll pay a visit to the Campos family.â
A hint of light flashed across her eyes. âDo you think the Campos family is involved in the recent events?â
âYup, especially that video from the yacht. Liamâs not capable of doing that on his own. I bet the Campos family lent him a helping hand,â Shaun said while caressing her fingers. He was pleased to see her wearing their wedding ring. âFocus on your work and let me take care of this.â
âNo, I already promised Melanie that Iâll be there.â She tilted her chin high with determination.
âStop itâ¦â He frowned.
She leaped from his lap. âYou think Iâll be ridiculed because of my disfigurement right? Or maybe youâre worried that going to public events with an ugly woman like me would make you the laughing stock?â
âCatherine Jonesâ¦â His voice revealed his displeasure. âIs that how you think of me? I donât want you to go because I want to protect you from Melanie. Iâm sure you know her malicious intentions.â
âBut my disfigurement is here to stay. Does it mean I have to avoid public events for the rest of my life?â
She caressed her face briefly. âYour honorable status means thereâll be plenty of socializing events waiting for you in the future. What happens when people enquire about your wife? Do you plan to hide me in the closet forever? On the other hand, am I supposed to stay home and watch as you show up at events with different beautiful women each time? If thatâs the case, then you should just divorce me now.â
After saying that, she turned around and stomped away.
A surge of frustration rocked through the man.
â¦
Catherine got into bed right after she stomped into the bedroom.
She never used to miss her nighttime skincare routine in the past.
However, that was no longer necessary.
Sometime later, Shaun got in bed to embrace her from behind. His voice was filled with helplessness.
âPlease stop being mad. Iâll attend the event with you tomorrow. Itâs a good time to announce to the affluent society of Canberra that youâre my wife.â
She turned around to look at him and saw affection overflowing from his eyes in the darkness.
âBut⦠I look horrendous. People might laugh at you.â
He pinched her nose playfully. âYou were just shouting at me for wanting to go alone yet now youâre undervaluing herself?â
Catherine bit her lip in frustration. She knew she was contradicting herself.
She was not bothered about the opinions of others but his opinion⦠still influenced her emotions.
âSilly girl, how many times do I have to tell you that I donât just love your face but you as a person?â
Shaun whispered gently, âI didnât want you to go because Iâm afraid you might be unhappy. I donât care about what others think. The only thing that matters to me is what you think.â
