Chapter 61 Never Show Them Any Mercy Quiana was on her knees on the ground, straightening the house.
However, her arms and face were littered with scratch marks and bruises. It was clear that someone had hit her.
Finneganâs face turned as black as thunder, and he stalked in. âWho hit you, Mom?â
The Chomsky family came to his mind first.
Scrambling up, Quiana fibbed, âNo one hit me. I merely slipped and fell yesterday.â
How could her injuries possibly be a result of a fall?
Rhiannon asked Desmond, âWhat exactly happened, Dad?â
Desmond stammered, âYour mother slipped and fell.â
From his parentsâ expressions, Finnegan had an inkling of the culprit. âWas it Uncle Raymondâs or Uncle Adrianâs family?â
After all, the only ones who could injure them and have them keep it to themselves were either Raymondâs or Adrianâs family.
âWas it them?â Rhiannon pressed.
Desmond smiled bitterly in the end. âIt was your Aunt Qahira and Ximena. They accused us of sabotaging things, causing the Haimowitz family to call off the wedding. When they came to make a fuss yesterday, your mother defended your brother, so they got physical with her. Itâs no big deal.â
âYes, yes, itâs no big deal. All my injuries are superficial.â
Quiana likewise asserted that she was fine, fearing that Finnegan would seek Raymond and his family out to settle the score.
Knowing his parentsâ attitude toward family, Finnegan suppressed his wrath and stopped Rhiannon from speaking about the matter further.
âMom, Dad, they only have themselves to blame for the cancelation of the wedding. Iâll let them off the hook this time. But if this happens again, Iâll never show them any mercy. Pack your things now. Weâre moving to a new house!â
Rhiannon was stunned for a moment. Her mood swung from depression to excitement.
She hugged Finneganâs arm. âWeâve moving, Finn?â
She had heard from her parents last week that her brother had bought a house from the Miles family at a low price and had been looking forward to it for several days.
Seeing that his parents also had excitement etched across their features, Finnegan replied with a grin, âYes. Weâre moving today. Youâll all love it for sure!â
Isnât this what humans pursue in their lifetime? Their ultimate aspiration is to give their family a better life!
âYou said this car was a gift from your brother, Rhia? How much did it cost?â
When Quiana got downstairs after packing her things, only to be greeted by the sight of the Porsche costing almost two million, she was dumbfounded.
Rhiannon turned to Finnegan for help.
Clearing his throat, Finnegan said, âSomewhere around three hundred to four hundred thousand.â
âTell your mother the truth, Finny. Iâm not an uneducated bumpkin. I know this is a Porsche.â Desmond wore a stern look on his face.
Gosh, I almost forgot that he loved to research cars in the past!
A wry smile curved Finneganâs lips. âUm⦠A little over a million.â
He had wanted to give a lower price, but he knew that Desmond would check whether it matched, so he went with the truth.
Both Desmond and Quiana froze in place.
A little over a million?
They exchanged a glance. Quiana hastily asked, âWhere did you get that much money? You didnât do anything illegal, did you?â
That was the first thought every parent would have upon learning that their child had money.
Taking her hand, Finnegan explained, âI made the money from treating patients all these years. None of it was from illegal means. Donât worry.â
Even so, a turmoil brewed within Quiana.
Oh God, this is no different from driving a house on the road!
about Suddenly, she whirled around and smacked Rhiannon on the head. âWhatâs so great your birthday, brat? How could you have your brother buy you such an expensive car? Donât you know that his money has to be saved for his wedding?â
âIt wasnât me, Mom! I didnât even know until he bought me the car!â
âHow dare you make excuses now?â
Shortly after, the matter was laid to rest.
Finnegan helped Desmond out of the wheelchair and into the car. âHow are your legs right now, Dad? I was a bit busy the past few days, but Iâll resume treating you every day henceforth.â
Lifting his legs, Desmond answered smilingly, âYour medical skills are really incredible, Finny. Your mother has been applying the salve you prepared for me these few days, and I can now move my legs slightly.â
âThatâs great. When we arrive at our new house, Iâll perform acupuncture on you. In a weekâs time, you can try walking with a cane.â.
âOkay, sure! Whatever you say!â
Dragon Bay was the most upscale and top-notch affluent district in Jadeborough.
The outside was condominium complexes, while the inside housed the mansion area.
It was built near the sea, and the price started from a hundred thousand per square meter.
âAre you sure weâre at the right place, Finn? This is Dragon Bay!â
When the Larkin family arrived, Rhiannon gaped at Dragon Bay, which she had never dared to imagine residing in, with disbelief and shock brimming in her eyes.
Desmond and Quiana had also gone completely stiff.
Dragon Bay was one of the top affluent districts in Jadeborough, and it was practically impossible to buy a house there without twenty million.
Finny bought a house here?
Desmond and Quiana looked at each other, their gazes tinged with intense skepticism.
Finnegan chuckled. âYes, this is the right place. Besides, it was the Miles family who sold the house to me. Their property canât be in an ordinary place, right?â
Desmondâs and the othersâ eyes went wide.
Oh, thatâs right! This house was from the Miles family, and theyâd never buy an ordinary house!
Desmond, who had worked diligently his entire life, asked, âFinny, how big is the house the Miles family sold you at a low price, and what was the original price?â
Rubbing the tip of his nose, Finnegan murmured, âLetâs go in first before we talk further.â
If I were to answer that now, they likely wouldnât even dare to âExcuse me.â
go in anymore.
Just as the car reached the gates, a security guard stopped them politely.
Rhiannon was driving a top-spec Porsche 718, so it was only natural that they acted courteously.
Slight apprehension swamped Rhiannon. âCanât I enter?â
âNo, thatâs not it. Itâs just that today is the launch of Dragon Bayâs third phase, and the sales department is organizing a tour for clients. Thereâs a lot of people inside right now, so it could be dangerous if you were to drive in,â the security guard clarified politely.
Since that was the case, Finnegan did not put him in a difficult position. âWeâll just walk in, then.â
Not only did Dragon Bayâs launch attract locals from Jadeborough, but it also drew many foreigners.
As soon as Finnegan and his family stepped in, they were greeted by people as far as the could see.
The visitors there numbered in the thousands, at the very least, and they were all led by a sales assistant as they toured the place.
âThere are so many rich people!â Rhiannon could not help lamenting at the sight of the crowd who were there to tour the place and buy a house.
After all, any house in the residential area in Dragon Bay cost tens of millions.
eye âOf course there are many rich people. But these few thousand people are not necessarily all affluent. I reckon most of them are spending money they accumulated through two or even three generations just for the down payment before shouldering a loan for decades,â Finnegan commented.
Rhiannon nodded in understanding. But still, she was somewhat perplexed. âIf even the down payment requires several million, why donât they just choose to buy a house at a cheaper place and pay the lump sum for it, Finn?â
As Rhiannon was no longer young then, Finnegan did not mind enlightening her about some of the cruel realities of life.
âItâs because of the excessive concentration of scarce resources. For example, there are limited places for the best schools in Jadeborough, and priority is given to students who live in the city. For the sake of their childâs future, others can only bite the bullet and buy a house here, even at the cost of having to shoulder a loan for several decades. Secondly, transportation and other conveniences in life are also clustered in the best location. Who wouldnât want that?â
If one wants to have all that, theyâll naturally have to pay a hefty price.
Rhiannonâs heart inexorably went heavy. âLife is downright difficult as the same cycle repeats through the generations!â
With a faint smile, Finnegan replied, âWhile life is difficult, itâs also wonderful. It mainly depends on how one looks at it. Come, letâs go and take a look at our house!â.
â
