Chapter 270 Not The Best Company That evening, as Finnegan and Rhiannon were leaving Quianaâs hospital room to go to Bennett Farmhouse, they unexpectedly encountered Melinda and Qahira.
âFinny!â Melinda called out as they exited the hospital,
Despite looking worn out, the two women brightened up at the sight of Finnegan, and they eagerly approached him.
Man, this sucks. Finnegan, though displeased, responded coolly, âAunt Melinda, Aunt Qahira.â
Rhiannon followed suit with a polite but distant greeting, âAunt Melinda, Aunt Qahira.â
She then tugged at Finneganâs arm, trying to hasten their departure. âFinn, we should get going. Nancy was asking about us just now.â
âFinny, just a moment,â Melinda interjected, stepping in their path.
âA moment, Finny,â Qahira implored, âYour aunt and I need to talk to you.â
Finnegan, already anticipating their request, cut them off, âAunt Melinda, Aunt Qahira, we might share some family ties, but beyond that, weâre practically strangers. Please, no more of this.â
He added firmly, âDonât drag my parents into this. Itâs not going to work and only makes me resent you more.â
With that, he took Rhiannon by the hand and left, ignoring Melinda and Qahiraâs sour expressions.
Finnegan wasnât one to respond to ill-will with kindness; sparing them was mercy enough in his eyes.
âFinnegan, wait!â Qahira pleaded, âEven if you canât help, could you lend us some money? Or maybe talk to the hospital about our bills?â
Melinda joined in, âExactly! Youâre the hospitalâs special consultant; you have influence here. Dr.
Cooper respects you. Just a word from you, and we might not have to pay. We canât afford this; our families will be ruined. Can you bear to see that happen?â
Finneganâs brow creased slightly, feigning deafness as he hastened his steps, ushering Rhiannon with him.
Witnessing Finneganâs apparent indifference and âlack of gratitude,â Melinda returned to her true nature, bitterly exclaiming, âThis ungrateful wretch, utterly heartless! How can he be so cruel to his own family!â
Qahira, blind to her own faults, cursed, âItâs unbelievable! How can someone so vile be so successful? I canât stand it!â
Melinda, her voice tinged with resentment, suggested, âIf we canât stomach it, we need to find a way to bring him down, make sure he canât keep looking down on us.â
Qahiraâs interest was piqued when she heard this. âIs there actually a way?â
âThereâs no plan right now. But Iâll talk it over with Adrian and the rest. Weâve got to deal with that d*mned jerk,â Melinda resolved.
Chapter 270 Not The Best Company
Finnegan, oblivious to their scheming as he had already departed, took taxi with Rhiannon.
Concurrently, he contacted Shaun and the others, directing them to Bennett Farmhouse.
After Finnegan ended the call, Rhiannon queried of him, âFinn, considering what just happened, do you think Aunt Melinda and the others might have changed?â
To this, Finnegan offered a word of caution, âAlways keep in mind, a leopard doesnât change its spots.â
Rhiannon, reflecting on the behavior of her unclesâ families, concurred with Finneganâs viewpoint. âThat does sound like them, snobbish and always quick to trample on others. What if they keep causing trouble, though?â
Rhiannon couldnât help but feel a bit concerned. Desmond and Quiana had changed their perspective on Melindaâs family, recognizing their true nature.
Yet, there was still a sense of familial bond that lingered, which made Rhiannon somewhat uneasy.
A brief, icy flash flickered in Finneganâs eyes before it vanished. âThey better not start anything again.
Even if Mom and Dad donât see it, I wonât let them get away with it!â he declared.
Sensing that Finneganâs words were somewhat stern, Rhiannon smoothly shifted the conversation.
âOh, and itâs Mr. Sanchezâs birthday today. I hope itâs fine we didnât bring a gift?â
Finnegan reassured her, âDonât worry about it. Heâs probably not the type to fuss over such things.â
As evening set in, the Larkin siblings reached Bennett Farmhouse. They found Zephyr, Shaun, and others, including Casper and Yuliana, already there.
Upon their arrival, Zephyr and his group quickly greeted them, âFinnegan, Ms. Larkin.â
Observing their behavior, Finnegan noticed Zephyr and his friends seemed overly enthusiastic toward Rhiannon. His eyes narrowed as he grasped their intentions.
Without hesitation, he playfully kicked them, jokingly warning, âBack off! Donât even think about my sister; youâre not in her league!â
Shaun, rubbing his behind after Finneganâs kick, protested innocently, âHey, Finnegan, itâs not like that.
We just want to be friends with Ms. Larkin, nothing more.â
Zephyr and Jaxon echoed, âRight, just friends with Ms. Larkin. Youâve got the wrong idea.â
âWhat a load of bull! You three-â
But before Finnegan could respond further, Rhiannon interjected, âFinn, Iâm sure Mr. Zephyr and his friends mean no harm. I should have some friends, shouldnât I?â
Zephyr and his companions quickly agreed, âAbsolutely! Ms. Larkin is correct.â
Finnegan couldnât help but smile wryly, patting Rhiannonâs shoulder. âOkay, just be cautious. Donât be deceived by them. These guys arenât the best company Upon hearing this, Zephyr and the others could only display a resigned expression at Finneganâs blunt remark.
and 08:51/ Fri, Jan 26 Chapter 270 Not The Best Company âCould you be a bit more discreet? Our pride is at stake here!â their expressions seemed to say.
At that moment, Finneganâs phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, he excused himself from the group.
âYou guys go on, I need to take this call.â
Stepping away, Finnegan answered Berniceâs call, saying, âHey, I was just thinking of inviting you to dinner.â
âYeah right,â she responded skeptically. âItâs already seven. You shouldâve given me a heads-up an hour ago. Plus, Rhiannon already texted me, and you didnât even mention inviting me.â
Finnegan gave a wry chuckle. âYouâre getting sharper by the day, Darling.â
âIâve always been sharp; I just didnât bother pointing out your tricks, you scoundrel!â
Finnegan, smiling, teased, âSo, whatâs up, Darling? Are you inviting me over tonight for some play time?â
âBehave! Cin is right here,â Bernice reminded him in a hushed tone.
With a mischievous grin, Finnegan quipped, âItâs fine for couples to flirt, isnât it? Let her get used to our lovey-dovey talk.â
Bernice sighed. âEnough with your nonsense. Listen, we have dinner plans at my grandparentsâ
tomorrow night. Grandpa and Grandma both insisted.â
Finnegan raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Bruceâs invitation was expected, but Millicentâs involvement was a surprise. Could they have heard about Timothyâs situation? Has Millicent softened?
When that train of thought crossed his mind, he instantly doubted it. Recalling Haileyâs message from earlier, Finnegan then replied, âIâll make time for it then. I need to talk to your Uncle Bishop too.â
âOkay, Iâll let Grandpa know. Talk later.â
It wasnât until she had ended the call that Bernice realized she had forgotten something.
Casting an apologetic look at the woman beside her, she said, âI might have forgotten somethingâ¦â
âNo, you actually did forget.â Cindy, spotting her friendâs guilt, rolled her eyes and playfully chided, âStop being so smitten that you lose all reason!â
With an awkward smile, Bernice said, âGuess Iâll call Finnegan back.â
âNo, donât bother. I donât want to be the third wheel anymore. Iâll catch up with him at Jerome Medical Clinic tomorrow myself!â
