Chapter 148 Of Course I Knew âHereâs what we know about Finnegan, Mr. Royle. There is a slight problem.â
At dusk, a bodyguard of the Royle family arrived at the ward and handed Vilmar two sheets of the investigative report.
Ariendel and Matthias who was feeling better hurried over.
âWhatâs problematic about that kid?â Matthias scoffed. âHe looks like a nobody.â
After signaling for the group to be quiet, Vilmar took the documents and perused them.
He furrowed his brows. âI didnât expect this fellow to be so well-connectedâ
âWell-connected? Where is he from?â Ariendel asked.
Vilmar handed the documents to her. âHe comes from an ordinary family, but his medical skills seem impressive. He treated Gilbert Miles. Winston Haimowitz, and even Old Mr. Langdon. Three families owe him. For that reason, Gilbert let him occupy Dragon Bay. The Haimowitz family arranged for his sister to be employed in Pentariver Group as Wynterâs secretary. And Bernice Zimmerman, the most beautiful out of the Four Beauties of Jadeborough, is his girlfriend. He has useful connections.â
Ariendel scoffed after perusing them. âMeteoric rises exist, I see. However, itâs still an indication of the Chomsky familyâs incompetence. Otherwise, Finnegan would have been finished five years ago.â
The report documented not only Finneganâs ordeal over that period but also his encounter with Killian five years prior.
Matthias took the documents.
After taking a glance, he said contemptuously, âThough his meteoric rise is commendable, itâs a shame that he ended up crossing paths with you, Mr. Vilmar. Even the Langdon family canât protect him. How could the Haimowitz and Miles families of Jadeborough? Based on this report, however, this fellow is most likely Ms. Langdonâs shield. How dare he-â
Halfway through his tirade, he fell abruptly silent at the sight of Vilmarâs scowl.
Vilmar would not want to be reminded of Finnegan kissing and holding Mandy the night before.
Ariendel changed the subject tactfully. âNow that we have found out about Finnegan, Mr. Vilmar, what should we do next? Shall we have a bodyguard apprehend him?â
The rest nodded in agreement.
Two dozen of them, whom Finnegan had humiliated, could barely wait to exact vengeance.
Vilmar narrowed his eyes. âI heard your uncleâs family works for Mr. Calandrino, Matthias?â
Matthias nodded. âThatâs right. It is my uncle who runs Mackle Group for Mr. Calandrino. He is, to say least, one of Mr. Calandrinoâs confidants.â
Vilmar sneered. âThough I am not afraid of the Haimowitz and Miles families, or even the Langdon family. I wouldnât want to start a fight with them over Finnegan. Iâll leave the matter of teaching him a lesson to you.
the apier 118 OF CO Course Matthias patted his chest. âDonât worry. Iâll call my cousin afterward and ask for his help. We shall not show Finnegan a shred of mercy.â
âGo,â Vilmar said with satisfaction. âGet this done, and Iâll bring you to the match between the Wahlstrom family and the Zymons family tomorrow and introduce you to some friends from Durbaine.â
âThank you very much, Mr. Vilmar. I will have Finnegan beg for mercy on his knees.â
Matthias was delighted. He had a vague idea of the type of friends from Durbaine Vilmar wanted him to be acquainted with.
Unbeknownst to them, the information they had uncovered regarding Finnegan had been altered at Jeremyâs personal behest.
Even his friendship with the Wahlstrom family had been kept hidden.
Finnegan remained unaware that Vilmar had him investigated and was, at that moment, even concocting a plan to seek revenge.
Having bought some fruits and supplements, he arrived at the residential area where Josephineâs rented house was.
Jenna and Casper were staying at Josephineâs as the old house had been demolished.
âI thought you were only here for dinner,â Casper greeted him with a smile after opening the door and beckoning him in.
âHello, Finny.â Jenna walked over to welcome him.
Josephine, on the other hand, was busy in the kitchen.
Finnegan nodded in greeting. âMdm. Dickson, Josephine.â
âYou didnât have to bring anything. Why did you buy so many things?â Jenna had Casper take the items. She seemed upset as she tugged Finneganâs arm, but he could tell she was delighted.
Josephine appeared at the kitchen entrance. âExactly. Thereâs no need for such formalities here.â
It was plain that Josephine remembered how she had danced at the Ark and was feeling guilty.
âSure, I donât have to be so formal,â Finnegan said, âbut Mdm. Dickson thinks of me as her son. Surely I cannot come empty-handed when I visit her.â
Jenna laughed. âYou werenât chatty when you were a child, but youâve grown a silver tongue. Oh, how much have you changed over the past five years. Come, sit. Tell me what youâve been up to. Hurry up and get the dinner ready, Josephine.â
Finnegan followed her and took a seat. At the same time, he examined the layout of the house.
It was a simple two-bedroom unit.
There was a bed by the window in the living room, which was obviously Casperâs.
Have you been seeing other properties, Mdm. Dickson?â
Is was so crumped and inconvenient for the three of them to live in that house.
Jenna sighed. âWe were compensated four million for the demolition of the old house. We could have bought a large-sized house with full payment in the suburbs, but Josephine and Casper wanted to pick one in a nice location that was convenient in every aspect, which is why we havenât gone to see any yet.â
The prices in prime locations cost a hundred thousand per square meter at the very least. Even the relocation funds were not enough to cover the downpayment.
âJosephine and Casper just want you to live more comfortably,â Finnegan said. Then, he turned to Casper. âYou could move into Jerome Medical Clinic after the renovations are complete. There are eight rooms there.â
Aware that Finnegan was trying to help, Casper did not turn him down. âAll right.â
âMy mother told me your rheumatism is acting up again, Mdm. Dickson. Let me have a look.â
âAll right. Thank you for the trouble.â
As he treated Jenna and wrote her prescription, Josephine had prepared dinner.
It was a simple, home-cooked meal.
âI didnât know you cook so well, Josephine,â Finnegan gushed as he helped himself to a slice of beef. âI remember you couldnât even cook an egg when you were a girl.â
Josephineâs cheeks turned red as she glared at him.
âAs if you knew how to.â
Finnegan laughed. âOf course I knew! Have you forgotten I was the one who cooked for you when we were home?â
Thinking back to her childhood, she remembered that it was indeed Finnegan who had cooked for them when the adults were away.
Josephine leaned over. âWhy are you still bringing it up? It was your fault for being able to cook.â
âThatâs enough. Why are you bickering?â Jenna grinned as she served Finnegan. âHave some more, Finny. Josephine has become a terrific chef.â
âShe has,â Casper chimed in. âMy sister is now wife and mother material.â
âThen I should count myself lucky.â
Finnegan felt as if he had been transported back in time to his youth. Setting aside the tense emotions of the past, he dined with Casperâs family as if he were one of them.
He even had two glasses of wine with Casper.
After the meal, Finnegan patted his belly with satisfaction. âHonestly speaking, Josephine has become a great chef. Her future husband is a lucky man.â
Casper seemed to be drunk.
He patted Finnegan on the shoulder. âWould you like to be my brother-in-law, then?â
