Chapter 101 Where Is Bernice âWhy?â Alisha asked, dumbfounded.
She could clearly sense Finneganâs disgust.
Finnegan replied darkly, âWhat do you think?â
He had asked for one of Theodenâs loyal subordinates to advance his plans of revenge against the Chomsky family.
Alas, at the most critical juncture, Alisha had committed a fatal flaw by not uncovering Tristanâs plans to cause a car accident.
If Xavier hadnât driven Rhiannonâs car away, would Rhiannon still be alive today? While there were no fatalities in the accident, there were still countless injuries!
The accident was by no means Finneganâs fault, yet he felt obliged to shoulder part of the blame, as Tristanâs actions clearly carried malice toward him.
He felt responsible for dragging other people into his mess.
Alisha finally caught on to the implications in his words and asked, âAre you blaming me for not keeping a closer eye on Tristan?â
Finnegan retracted his gaze from hers and uttered, âTalking about the past is useless. Iâll give you ten million now. Think of how to compensate the victims. At the end of the day, Iâm at fault for dragging them into my mess!â
If only I didnât give the Chomsky family fifteen days. If I had destroyed them in one fell swoop, there wouldnât have been forty-eight innocent casualties today. Luckily there were no deaths!
Alisha said through gritted teeth, âI admit I was careless, Finnegan, but you are to blame too. If you had followed my initial suggestion to destroy the Chomsky family immediately, these injuries would never have happened. Thatâs why Iâll never leave!â
Finnegan frowned lightly but did not fly into a rage.
He had to admit that Alisha was right.
Sighing to himself, he walked to the window and gazed at the night scenery outside. He lamented.
âWhy does peace elude me?â
Finnegan had arranged for extra security for his family. It was impossible for Tristan to harm them unless he dispatched a massive number of men.
The same situation applied to Josephine and her family. Dozens of guards were secretly on standby around her house and would immediately detect any infiltrations from Tristanâs men. They would swiftly get rid of the intruders before Josephineâs family even realized anything was amiss.
Despite the security measures, doubt continued to niggle at Finneganâs mind.
He was nonetheless confident that Tristan would not target Raymondâs or Adrianâs families.
Tristan definitely knew that Finnegan would hardly blink if harm were to befall his unclesâ families. In fact, Finnegan could very well be rejoicing at their misfortune.
But besides these people, who else is important to me? Wait a minute!
Panic flickered in Finneganâs eyes as Berniceâs image surfaced in his mind.
Bernice was the most important person to him besides his family and Josephineâs family.
Her status, as well as the fact that she was always surrounded by bodyguards, caused the matter of her safety to temporarily slip Finneganâs mind..
He quickly picked up his phone to call Bernice.
Before Finnegan could dial her number, a call came in from Jennifer.
His heart sank. He suppressed his uneasiness and answered the call.
âMs. Jennifer, whatâs up?â
Jennifer sounded anxious on the other end of the line. âFinnegan, is Bernie with you?â
His uneasiness ballooned as he replied, âBernieâs not with me now. Whatâs going on?â
Jenniferâs anxiety became more palpable. âBernie went shopping with Cindy tonight. She was spending an unusually long time in the restroom, so Cindy was worried and went inside to look for her, but Bernie wasnât there at all. Cindy contacted the mall security, who immediately checked the surveillance camera footage. She tried to call Bernie, but Bernieâs phone was switched off. Worst of all, the restroom happens to be outside the surveillance cameraâs field of view.â
She asked again, âFinnegan, is Bernie really not with you?â
-Tristant Finnegan was certain that Tristan had a hand in Berniceâs disappearance, and he was furious.
Still, he tried to sound as calm as possible as he reassured Jennifer, âIâm heading out to look for Bernie now, Ms. Jennifer. Sheâll be fine. You and Mr. Patrick shouldnât worry too much!â
After he hung up, Alisha asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
Finnegan whirled around to face her and announced fiercely, âTo the Chomsky residence!â
âWho are you? Stay there!â
Half an hour later, Finnegan pulled up to the Chomsky residence. He strode fearlessly toward the main entrance, which put the security guards on high alert.
Finnegan ignored their warning and walked on, a dark expression on his face.
The commotion drew the attention of more security guards on the property. One of them called out.
âThis is private property. If you insist on intruding, we will use force to remove you.â
Still, Finnegan continued on.
âDâmn it! Heâs here to cause trouble! Seize him!â
Seeing that Finnegan was about to enter the garden, six bodyguards rushed forward to apprehend him.
The bodyguard leading the group whipped out a stun baton and activated it.
Instead of dodging, Finnegan simply punched the attacking bodyguard right in the face.
Crack!
The impact crushed the bodyguardâs nose bridge, and the man slumped into an unconscious heap on the ground.
Then, Finnegan leaped into the air. The remaining bodyguards had no time to react. They were sent flying by Finneganâs kicks. Cries of anguish filled the air.
Finnegan barely spared them a glance and stepped into the garden.
Soon, over twenty bodyguards surrounded him.
One of them recognized Finnegan and instantly went on high alert. He shouted, âGet Boss here, stat!
Finneganâs here!â
He did not have to wait long. Tristan soon strolled out of the mansion, his laughter filling the air.
âFinnegan, youâre finally here! But I only gave you an hour to arrive. Youâre almost two hours late!â
Narrowing his eyes, Tristan taunted, âThatâs fine, though, as long as youâre here. Now, go on in and treat Killi.â
His arrogance was stifling.
Finnegan shot him a cold glare and demanded, âWhereâs Bernice?â
âBernice?â Tristan feigned ignorance. âIs Ms. Zimmerman missing? Well, why donât you run along and treat Killi? Perhaps Ms. Zimmerman will magically reappear once heâs cured.â)
Finnegan was surer than ever that Tristan was responsible for Berniceâs missing act.
He recalled the forty-eight-person car accident, and he simply could not control his rage any longer.
Finnegan walked toward Tristan with a dark look.
Most of Tristanâs bodyguards had had a taste of Finneganâs fist at the hospital and hesitated about moving. forward to protect Tristan.
âDonât move! He wouldnât dare to strike me!â Tristan gloated confidently.
After all, he had Bernice under his control.
Tristan knew his bodyguards were no match for Finnegan. Otherwise, he would have asked them to beat up Finnegan since the latterâs arrival.
That was how Finnegan made his way to Tristan unhindered.
Tristan stepped aside and gestured toward the entrance with a wicked smirk. âWelcome!â
Bam!
To his surprise, Tristan was instead greeted by one of Finneganâs legs. Tristan flew backward and crashed heavily into a pillar.
The bodyguardsâ expressions instantly changed. Still, no one moved. They were too traumatized by Finneganâs beating in the past.
Tristan curled into a ball and gasped in agony. âYouâre a madman, Finnegan! Have you considered the consequences?â
Finnegan bent over and seized Tristan by the neck. He raised the man off the ground and asked, âWhereâs Bernice?â
That was Tristanâs trump card, and he would not give away her location. âYou know her best. How would I know if even youâre clueless? Be a smart man and treat Killi now, or youâll regret this!â
Finnegan did not feel threatened. His gaze glinted with ferocity.
He tightened his hold on Tristanâs neck and raised the man higher off the floor. âTell me where Bernice is. Otherwise, the fifteen-day period is off. A few hours wonât make a difference!â
âI donât know!â
