Chapter 12
" Thankyou, they don't work "
à ANANYA Ã
" I have nothing to wear! " I complained and saw the mess of clothes I created.
" That makes it two of us " Kirti said and Bhai gave us a look.
" Seriously? These are thrice than what I have. They should be enough " He responded.
Today, we were going on a dinner, by we I mean, Me, Kirti, Bhai, Vivian and Sahil. Bhai planned it for us to know each other so that he can be a Little less tense when he goes back.
After staying for like 16 days he is sure that Kirti and I can handle the trouble. But he is also sure that we must have invited it. Kirti and Bhai are also comfortable with each other. They are also sort of brother sister now. All thanks to me.
" So what? You are a guy. Your community doesn't even have options. We girls have so many options and we have to choose one like Crop tops, Jeans, Onepiece, Bodycon dress, Oversized t-shirts, Kurtis, Frocks, Jumpsuits, Dungrees, Dresses, Skirts, Fancy tops, Party wears- " I started my babbling till my dearest dear brother asked me to stop.
" Anu, You speak like a waiter talking about options of food " Bhai said and I narrowed my eyebrows.
Mafia Queen Ananya is offended.
" What do you mean to say? " I asked him.
" You speak so damn fast. Apply for a job, you'll get appointed when they hear this "
Little does he know I did work as a waitress.
When it was hard to survive alone, one of my jobs was of a waitress. It wasn't a very great experience as some badly raised men acted like shit seeing a female waitress.
One of them used to arrive everytime I had a shift and sometimes also crossed his limits. Like he has nothing to do in life he would appear. Once I confronted him on what does he want from me, he started flirting and when I got uncomfortable, I threatened him so bad (Typical Ananya) that he was never seen again.
"Thankyou, I would surely have a conversation on your suggestion with my inner mind. Right now what I need to know is what am I supposed to wear? Trousers would be too formal, jeans would be too casual. " I said and sat down placing my hands on my cheeks.
" Dress, wear a dress " Bhai suggested after a while.
Not all his suggestions are bad.
" Woah You have some brain left. Good idea " I said standing up after taking the hand Kirti gave me to stand up seeing me struggling.
Yeah my back is something 60 years old. Thankyou for judging.
I started searching for a dress when I heard Kirti say.
" Wear that marron floral one. The one you bought that day from the Market in 750 "
The only good thing my mother taught me was bargaining. I bought a 1250 rupees dress in 750.
Tell me this is not talent and go argue in front of a mirror.
" Yeah right na, What are you wearing by the way? " I asked her.
" Jumpsuit. And I am not gonna change my selected piece of cloth on whatever you try to say. " She said even before I could open my mouth. I just put my lower lip Out and pouted.
Sad Anu.
" Okie. I will remember this betrayal "
" Guys, I'm leaving in half an hour. Decide the means of transportation you want to arrive in because I am not going to wait " Bhai said and I and Kirti ignored him in a unison.
" That reminds me, how the hell did we dail Sahil's number instead of Devaansh's? " I asked her while glaring.
That is still a mystery.
Devaansh was the colleague and my friend with the blue eyes.
" Uh good question. Repeat Devaansh's number? " She asked and I opened my phone. I spoke each digit aloud while Kirti cross checked it with the number that idiot dialed.
" Oh wait it was 6369? " She asked in confusion.
" What did you dial? "
" 6963 "
" Beakal. What about the embarrassment I had to face? And I'm going to face my whole life from him? "
[Brainless]
" You are so sure you are going to spend your life with him in it? " She asked teasingly.
" I was right. You were fighting with Vivian when God was distributing brains. " I replied.
" See that's why he doesn't have brains. "
" Keep that aside. I have embarrassed myself not once, not twice but thrice in front of Sahil. Kya sochega woh mere baare mei? " I whined.
[What will he think about me?]
" Sochne de ho sochna hai. Tere chacha ka ladka lagta hai kya? " She replied.
[ Let him think whatever he wants to. He's not your uncle's son]
" Chacha ka ladka nahi mere Bhai ka dost, meri jisse shaadi hone wali thi uska cousin aur Mera padosi lagta hai " I replied.
[Not my uncle's son, but my brother's friend, cousin of the guy I was supposed to marry and my neighbour]
" Bhai, pichle Janam ka rishta h tumhara kuch? Har bar takra jate ho ek dusre se " she said.
[Did you guys have any relation in your last lives? Everytime you stumble into each other]
" Haan. Pichle Janam ka badla lene aayi hu main. Icha dhari Naagin banke intekaam pura karke chali jaungi apna. " I said sarcastically.
[Yes. I'm here to take revenge of the past life. I'll turn into a magical Snake, take my revenge and go back]
(A/N - This is the best translation I could think of Naagin ð)
" Looks like Sahil has to be careful now. Naagin jo piche pad gayi h " Kirti said and I made an irritated face.
[That Naagin is behind him]
ð¦
" You look Beautiful, Ananya " Vivian complimented and I smiled.
" Thankyou " I said sitting on the chair beside Kirti.
I had wore the maroon coloured dress with very tiny kinda white and light pink flowers all over it. It fit me perfectly and covered my arms as it was full sleeves.
Vivian sat beside me which my brother clearly didn't like. It could be clearly seen from the reaction he gave. Sahil sat just in front of me whereas Amar Bhai sat beside him.
That poor guy is being friendly!
I noticed the interior of the restaurant which gave off the whole royal vibes. It it designed very well. The way I wished to come here with Kirti a few days back and now I am here not only with her but also along with the owner.
However Sahil didn't want us to dine here, but we wanted to try it out so we suggested.
Soon we ordered the food after a long debate between the only two unique species of humans who still can't pronounce each other's names.
I was busy noticing the beautiful interiors and paintings hung on walls. One of them caught my attention, it was a black shadow of couple standing under an umbrella. The background was like dark blues and shades of blue representing a dark night and from the umbrella yellow shiny flowers were there. It looked beautiful and it had a meaning, my gut feeling said.
" That one is eye catching. It's so good " I said and pointed towards the painting.
" Yeah, Sahil made it for- " Vivian said and his voice slowing down.
" Sahil painted it. It's the only good thing he has ever painted. " He said trying to make his voice sound exciting but it was all gone.
I noticed Sahil's face also going blank and expressionless.
" You made it? It's really very beautiful. " I told him and he blinked his eyes while giving me a small smile.
" Thankyou " Everyone went silent now.
Looks like Vivian pressed the wrong string.
After a few minutes, Vivian spoke gaining everyone's attention.
" You have Beautiful eyes, Ananya " that was so random.
" Thankyou but they don't work " I said. I heard a loud chuckle at my comment which belonged to Sahil.
Atleast I made him laugh.
I wore contact lens today, otherwise I am with my big glasses on my face. I hate having glasses but I can't see without them.
I'm partially blind.
We spoke about random topics and I interrupted only when needed. My food was more important and tasty. After when we finished our food, we spilt the bill when I was determined that I'm not leaving until we spilt.
ð¦
" Ma called "
These two words and the smile on my face vanished. I kept staring blankly at Bhai, after licking my dry lips.
I haven't heard thier voice from four years which now felt like ages. I miss them, honestly. No matter how toxic our relation was, a child can not stop missing her mother. I won't say she wasn't a good Mom, she was trying her best. But she could never fight for us or let alone herself in front of my dad. She did not knew how to take stand for herself and that man she calls her husband very well knew how to use it against her.
" Pick it up " I mouthed and he kept the call on speaker. I went and sat beside him.
" Hello beta " she said and my eyes pooled up.
[Hello, son]
How much did I crave to hear this voice.
" Hello, Ma " Bhai said.
" How are you? Did you eat? You did not call from so many days? I get that you are a big man but You are now this busy for your Ma? "
She genuinely sounded hurt.
" Sunita, he must be busy. He has work to do " I heard the voice I did not miss at all. I wiped my tear from the back of my hand.
Like when a parent's actions force you to dislike them so much that you can never mend anything with them.
" Sorry, Ma. This week has been hectic, so it slipped out of my mind. I miss you so much too " he said.
" You know the house is so empty with you or An- "
" Don't take that girl's name " my father said firmly.
He didn't even let her take my name. He hates me even more now.
My over sensitive self couldn't stop expressing the hurt in the form of tears.
" That girl is your daughter, you accept it or not, Dad " Bhai said.
" Not after what she did. No daughter ruins the name of her family. "
Like you ever considered her as your daughter.
" But- " He shut Bhai down.
" Why are we ruining our moods mentioning her? She did what she did. I forgot I have a daughter. Now I don't care whether she lives or not. My respect is more precious to me " He said and I laughed humourlessly while tears escaped my eyes.
I hate being so sensitive!
I hate not being able to control my emotions!
I ran away from there not wanting to hear something more cruel which will ruin my mood.
He said what he said. Don't let it affect you. Don't let it affect you. Don't let it affect you.
But he meant it!
It's okay. It's okay. This is nothing. You have heard so much worse than this. Let him think whatever he wants.
I went out of the house to get some fresh air. To calm my mind. I went towards the garden area and sat on a bench there. My face and nose would be so red right now.
I heard some footsteps and turned my head to see who it was.
" Ananya? " I recognised it as Sahil's voice and turned my head to the other side and wiped my tears.
I don't want anyone to see this side. They'll take it as an advantage. This is how bad the world is.
" What happened? " He asked, his voice full of concern.
" Can I sit? " He asked and I nodded.
" Are you okay? " He asked and the speed of my tears increased.
Don't ask me if I'm okay when I'm crying. I'll cry more.
" Can we talk about something else other than my red face which makes me look like I was crying? "
