Chapter 861 Abandoned Once Again âYouâve got the wrong person. Heâs not Sam. He truly is Xander from the York family.â Steven explained to her patiently.
âMoreover, how could Sam be here at this hour? Heâs probably whispering sweet nothings to Luna right now...â
Steven trailed off toward the end as he too had been hurt.
Natalie smiled bitterly upon his words.
Could it be... Iâve got it all wrong in my drunken state? Am I so drunk that Iâm taking every man who treats me right as Samuel?
Stevenâs right. How could Samuel be here at this hour?
âIâm sorry... Iâve had too much to drink. Iâve got the wrong person.â Natalieâs eyes dimmed with sorrow. âThank you so much for tonight, Mr. York.â
Xander gave no response as he turned around and left.
Natalie stared at the manâs silhouette as she could no longer differentiate between illusion and reality.
Steven spoke up when he noticed that Natalieâs eyes were still glued on Xander. âNatalie, itâs my fault that I didnât look out for you tonight. Iâll send my men to take care of that b*stard and send you home first.â
âHome?â
Natalie asked, confused.
âIs that still my home?â
Steven was rendered speechless. After a while, he replied, âAt least Franklin, Sophia, Xavian, and Clayton are all there.â
âYeah. My children are still there.â Natalie nodded.
Steven asked his assistant to send Natalie back to the Bowers residence since he drank.
Gavin was still awake when Natalie returned.
âMs. Nichols, why did you drink so much?â Gavin expressed his concern when he saw Natalie. âTake a seat. Iâll go make you some hangover remedy.â
Natalie felt uncomfortable as she was experiencing heartache and hangover at the same time.
Shortly after, Gavin returned with a bowl of hot hangover remedy.
Natalie thanked him and downed the bowl of hangover remedy.
âMs. Nichols, where is Mr. Samuel?â Gavin couldnât help but ask when he saw that Natalie was alone.
âI donât know,â Natalie replied dully. âHe might not come back when Iâm around.â
âDid you guys... fight?â Gavin caught on as he too, had had his fair share of heartbreak.
âNo.â Natalie forced a smile. âGavin, itâs getting late. You should get some rest. I still need your help to prepare breakfast for the kids tomorrow.â
Gavin knew Natalie didnât want to talk about it. Hence, he didnât push her for details.
âGoodnight, Ms. Nichols.â
âGood night.â
It was two in the morning.
Everyone else in the household were fast asleep at this hour except for Natalie.
She sat on the carpeted floor of the study, hugged her knees, and stared out the window at the moon.
She thought Samuel was going to prepare a grand wedding proposal for her.
That was why she accepted Justinâs suggestion to dress to the nines tonight. She wanted to treat Samuel wholeheartedly since he was doing the same, or so she thought.
However, she had never been so wrong.
She didnât believe Samuel would turn his back on her, but his resoluteness still hurt.
Even though Samuel did not turn his back on her, he had abandoned her.
He would tell her the whole story if he wanted to. If not, then everything she did would be pointless.
Natalie had been abandoned too many times during her lifetime. Just as she thought she had finally found someone who would never leave her, he left.
She would leave Samuel if that was what he wanted.
Natalie hugged her knees tight as the tears flowed down her cheeks.
She didnât dare make a sound as she cried.
Natalie bit her wrist as she held back her whimpers.
She wanted to cry to her heartâs content tonight. After all, Samuel wasnât the only one in her life. She still had people who cared for her. She promised herself to stay strong once day breaks.
