Chapter twenty nine ~ edited
I woke up crying five nights in a row. I kept having a dream. It was always the same. Seth and the herd were in the clearing, where they were when I first discovered them. I wiped away my tears from this morning's cry and grabbed clean clothes, walking to the bathroom. I had a shower, replaying the dream in my head. Was it a way of telling me the herd, and Seth, were back at the clearing? Or was it just some stupid, recurring dream that meant absolutely nothing and made you get your hopes up for absolutely no reason? I punched the wall of the shower and cried out in pain, holding my sore hand in my other. I slid down the wall of the shower and sat on the floor, crying.
I shut the water off after I cried for ten minutes and stepped out of the shower. I dried off and got dressed, then walked downstairs. My phone was sitting on the island counter and I grabbed it, a smile forming on my lips. There was a message from Stacy.
Hey Summer, it's Stacy. Hope you are safe and home xoxo
My smile grew and I texted her back, letting her know it was me and not my parents, before I called her. She picked up.
"Hey." She said. We got into a long conversation and she told me that her mum found her another horse and she was training for a competition. I told her good luck and that she'd do amazing. She had to go and we said goodbye, hanging up.
I put my phone down and made myself toast. I sat down at the kitchen table and ate my breakfast. Jason walked into the kitchen and sat next to me.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey." I said after swallowing the last bit of my toast.
"How are you doing?" He asked.
I sighed and looked at him. "Did mum and dad send you to get info from me?" I asked. He sighed and nodded. "I'm fine, alright?"
He looked at me. "Summer. I hear you cry every morning. And when you cry at night. We're all worried about you."
I nodded, getting up. I put my plate in the sink and started walking to the door. I paused.
"I don't want to talk about it. If I do, I reveal something that has to remain a secret, unless the people involved are fine with me telling you." I said, opening the door and walking out, closing it behind me. Axe ran up to me and I smiled, rubbing his fur. "Hey boy!" I gave him a hug and kissed him between the ears. "Stay here." I said, walking to the Bailey's place.
I spotted David and Susan, they were just getting out of the car. They spotted me and smiled, Susan waving. I waved back and walked over to them.
"Hi." I said.
"Morning." They said together. They both gave me a hug.
"I was wondering if I could possibly take Storm out for a ride? It's been a while since I've ridden a horse and even though I am one now, I want to ride Storm." They both nodded.
"Sure go ahead." David said. "We'll be here all day. Take as long as you want." I nodded, said thank you and walked to the stable. Storm nickered when he saw me and I smiled.
"Hey boy." I said. I put his halter on and led him out of the stall. I tacked him up and tapped him into a walk, heading on the trail that started it all. The trail to the clearing.
I got to the clearing and frowned. I really hoped the herd would be here. It was empty. I turned Storm and headed back.
"I thought he'd be there." I whispered. I tapped Storm into a canter and cantered the whole way to the house.
I halted Storm and dismounted, unsaddling him and hosing him down. I put him back in his stall, said goodbye to David and Susan and headed home, this time in my horse form.
I slowed to a trot and then a walk, stopping out the back. Crystal, Rob and my family walked out. I shifted back and smiled at my two werewolf friends.
"Hey. What are you two doing here?" I asked.
"Well, we spoke to our Alpha and he didn't agree," Crystal said. I frowned.
"Oh." I said sadly.
"But his son came home just as we were discussing you coming and he practically begged his father to let you stay with us." Crystal said.
"Crystal. Caleb didn't beg." Rob said.
"Caleb?" I asked.
"Yeah. He and his brother have been away for a while. Just got home yesterday." Crystal said.
"Brent?" I asked. Crystal and Rob looked at each other then at me. Crystal nodded.
"Yeah. Why?" Crystal asked.
"You know the Caleb I mentioned when I was telling you everything? That's him. And his younger brother Brent. Caleb is the one who trained me and he said his pack was around here when he was telling me about..." I trailed off. I couldn't talk about it. "Can we go to the pack? I want to see him." I said. Rob nodded and Crystal grabbed my hand. "I'll be back later." I called as we walked to the car.
We arrived at the pack house and when I got out of the car, heaps of people looked at me.
"Jeez. Take a picture, it'll last longer." I mumbled. Crystal laughed and grabbed my hand, pulling me to the biggest house on the place. It was two stories high.
"You'll be staying here until we work out a place for you to stay. All the houses are full and well, since you're friends with Caleb, his father is fine with you staying in the pack house. The Alpha and Beta and their families live in here." Crystal explained. I nodded, cautiously entering the grand house. It was gorgeous; inside and out. The inside was much more beautiful with expensive furniture, and paintings. The kitchen was to the left of the front door and the lounge room to the right. There was a stairway just as you walked through the door. Caleb and Brent were sitting at the island counter in the kitchen.
I smirked and walked up behind them. I pushed my way between the two of them.
"Missed me?" I asked Caleb. He smiled and laughed. He got up, giving me a hug.
"I heard you were in town and that you were thinking of joining our pack." He said. I pulled back and laughed.
"Yeah, I heard you are the reason I'm actually joining the pack. Thanks." I said. He nodded.
"No problem." He said. Brent got up. He stood next to Caleb.
"You have no idea who I am, do you?" I asked Brent. He shook his head.
"Nope. Not a clue." He answered. I laughed, holding out my hand.
"My name is Summer. Although you know me as Shimmer." I said.
His mouth dropped open in shock. "Wait. What? You're Shimmer?" He looked at Caleb, hitting him in the arm. "Dude, why didn't you tell me the horse you were training was a horse shifter?" I laughed.
We sat down and they told me how I was supposed to act at the pack and towards their father, the Alpha. What the ranks were and what they meant. Basic pack history and important things I needed to know. I was taken on a tour and met a few pack members. They were all friendly and greeted me.
Finally, I was taken home. Caleb came with us and mum invited them to dinner. We were all currently sitting at the table, eating the food mum cooked; chicken, peas, corn, other vegetables. It smelled great and tasted even better. I sat facing the glass door. I stared out it, at the shadows of trees, remembering the time Seth came to visit me. I mentally smiled.
I sat up straighter. I swear I just saw a glimpse of a black horse. I stood up.
"Summer?" Mum and dad asked at the same time. Everyone watched me but I ignored them and ran to the door. I slid it open and ran out. I looked around.
"Midnight?" I called out. Nothing. I frowned. It was like the dreams. It was nothing. I heard a nicker and I looked around. "Midnight?" I asked again. He trotted from the shadows and I gasped, I ran to him and wrapped my arms around his neck. He shifted back and hugged me. "You came back!" I said, tears slipping from my eyes. Happy tears.
"I missed you too much." He said into my neck.
"I missed you too. I've been thinking about you a lot. I've had dreams where you and the herd are at the clearing and today I went but you weren't there... I just missed you so bad." I said. I balled my fists in his shirt.
"Summer?" Mum asked. I pulled away from Seth and turned around, facing everyone.
"Um. You know the stallion I was obsessed with? Well here he is." I said awkwardly. Caleb walked over giving Seth an one arm hug and messing up his hair. I laughed. Crystal walked over to Seth, giving him a tight hug.
"So you're the guy she's been moping over for the past few days," she said. I jabbed her in the stomach with my elbow. "Ow. Lesson learned." She said, pain evident in her tone. "Never mess with Summer." She walked back over to my family. "Let me guess, the two of you fought and that's how she knows how to hurt people?" Crystal asked Jason. He shrugged and I laughed.
"So you're a horse shifter as well?" Jason asked Seth. He nodded.
"My whole family is." Seth said.
