(A/N)- Grab your cuddle buddies and your tissues. The next two chapters are kind of sad. 😢

Third Person POV~

Lizzie woke up at dawn. Quietly leaving her room, she went to Lily's, only to find Alaric already there.

"She's still not awake?" the blonde asks in a low voice, making her father turn to her with worried eyes.

"None of them are."

After a moment of silence, Lizzie spoke again, "

Dad... It's been over a day since she died... What if-"

"Don't." Alaric says in a strained voice. "We don't need to think like that, Elizabeth. Not now."

Instead of responding, Lizzie stayed silent until the headmaster left the room.

The blonde took a seat on a chair close to the bed and let a few tears fall.

Taking a deep breath, Lizzie decided to do the thing no one in her family wanted to.

Typing in the familiar number and hitting call, she waited for the other person to pick up the other line.

And then they finally did.

"Mom?"

---------------------

"No. No. No." Caroline started repeating after she hung up the phone, tears pour in from her eyes as she sobbed in pure agony.

"Caroline? What's wrong?" Bonnie asks as she walks into the hotel room the two were staying in- in Italy.

"Lily's dead... My little girl's..." she couldn't finish her sentence.

"Hey, wait, Care. She's part vampire she's gonna come back, okay?" Bonnie said, thinking quickly. But Caroline only shook her head. "Lizzie told me she died on their birthday."

"-That was..."

"Almost two days ago Bonnie. And Lily hasn't woken up yet." with that, Caroline looked serious and she stood up. "Okay, I need flowers, and see about putting her body in the Salvatore family crypt and-"

Bonnie pried Caroline's phone from her and held her by the arms. "Caroline. Right now, we just need to go to your daughters."

This made the vampire shake her head as tears started to fall again. "Bonnie, I- I don't want to go home." Caroline started.

"Because, if I go home. And I see Lily dead, then that makes it real."

"Caroline-" Bonnie went to say something but her best friend stopped her.

"No Bonnie! My daughter is dead! My baby, Bonnie. I carried her in me for months, I gave birth to her, I raised her." Caroline paused as she shook her head trying to get her thoughts to not go to such a dark place, but it didn't work.

"She was supposed to grow up and have the life she wanted. She was supposed to be happy, and alive. And if she died she was supposed to come back."

Bonnie couldn't hold back her tears anymore. Seeing Caroline look so broken again hurt the Bennett witch. All Bonnie could do was bring the blonde into a much-needed hug as she balls her eyes out.

After a few minutes, Caroline is now crying silently in Bonnie's arms.

"I know how terrible this is. And I know that I can't imagine how you're feeling. But we need to go home, Care. You have two daughters that need their mom. They just lost their sister."

This made Caroline nod her head slowly before the two got up to get ready to leave.

---------------------

Lizzie and Josie sat in Lily's room looking at her lying body, hoping that somehow she'd just wake up and be fine.

All the while on the other side, Lily stood by her body, watching how her sisters are reacting.

"God! Why can't I wake up! This is so infuriating!" she yelled as she looked at herself lying there.

Before anyone could do anything else, Caroline and Bonnie slowly opened the door, making the girls turn to them.

"Mom." the twins say before rushing into the blonde vampire's arms. "Hey girls." Caroline responds as she holds the twins, who were now crying.

"Mom, I-" Josie starts but stops when she looks over her shoulder to her sister's bed. "Shh. I know. But right now, I need you two to go with Aunt Bonnie to go find your dad okay?"

After having everyone else leave the room, Caroline took a deep breath before looking where she didn't want to look. And it broke her heart.

Slowly, the vampire moved a stray piece of hair from her daughter's face, and her tears finally fell when she felt how cold and lifeless Lily was.

"T-this is all my fault. I was trying to help your sisters, and I... I didn't even know you needed help and-... Oh my god. The last time I ever talked to my daughter we were fighting. That-that can't be the last time I talked to you Lily, please" after that, Caroline had no more words. Just tears.

And though she couldn't see it, Lily was crying as well.

---------------------

"Alaric."

Hearing his name from the voice of an old friend, Alaric turns to find Bonnie and the twins.

"Bonnie? What are you-" Alaric goes to ask, but Lizzie speaks up instead, "I called mom. Aunt Bonnie was with her."

"And where is Caroline?"

"She's in Lily's room. She needs some time alone to process." Bonnie responded in a broken tone.

"What do you mean process? I mean, I know that it usually takes faster than this but Lily is different. Maybe the rules are too." Josie claims as she tries to look on the bright side.

"Josie, we need to start preparing for the fact that, Lily might not be coming back." Alaric tells her gently.

"No, dad. That would mean that- that I killed my own sister... Wait, what about the necromancer? He could-" Josie began in hysteria and Alaric stopped her. "I'm way ahead of you. But I need you two at the field day today."

"What?! Dad!" "Dad that's so unfair!" Josie and Lizzie yelled.

"I need you guys to be there because I can't. I have to find a way to wake up Landon, Hope, and your sister." Alaric told them, and the twins reluctantly agreed.

"Now come on. We have a morning assembly early tomorrow. Go get some rest, both of you. Bonnie, I'll show you to a room." Alaric told them before walking away.

---------------------

"I know we've been through a lot in that few days. Well, months really. Okay uh, it's been a rough couple of years, to be honest. And I wish we could say the worst is over. But whatever comes next, I firmly believe that we will be able to get through it if we stand united, as a school, a community-"

Alaric was giving his speech when Alyssa stood up.

"Sorry, just for clarification, does 'our community' include your daughter, who murdered me, and held the entire school hostage to stage a grotesque display of black magic power?"

The question made everyone look at Josie, who in turn, looked down.

"Josie is back to normal, and safe." Alaric told the students, mainly Alyssa.

"Thanks to Hope. Who, I'm noticing isn't here at the ass crack of dawn like the rest of us. And you know who else isn't there? Her girlfriend. You killed her too, didn't you Josie? Is your sister still dead after you murdered her too?"

"That's enough, Alyssa." Alaric spoke sternly.

"Hope, as you can imagine was hit hard by what happened to Lily, and is waiting for her to wake up..."

---------------------

Later that day after the Necromancer left Landon's spirit and Rafael alone, Alaric took him to Lily's room.

"Oh, I see the tribrid spouse is incorporated as well." The Necromancer says as he sees the Salvatore girl's body.

"This is the Necromancer, Ric?" Caroline asks.

"I am. Now, what did you drag me here for."

"You said you didn't do anything to Hope. Did you do anything to Lily?" Alaric asks the monster.

"No. Though it appears her spirit is safe on the other side with her father, and she didn't stray far from her body." The Necromancer states as he looks from Lily to the adults.

"Can you wake her up?" Caroline asks hopefully.

"See that's the issue at hand isn't it. Because the thing is, I can't. Even though her spirit is in the realm of the dead, her body held vampire blood. Technically her body is in transition from alive to dead. I can't touch what is not dead or alive."

This gave Caroline a semblance of hope. "So she's gonna wake up then? If her body is in transition?"

The Necromancer just looked at the blonde vampire. "Oh my dear, if she hasn't woken up yet, I doubt she ever will. I'd start planning the funeral."

"No! No-no-no-no. I can't. I can't, this can't be happening" Caroline started hyperventilating and crying again.

---------------------

After watching her mother cry at what the Necromancer said, Lily couldn't stay there, so she left her room and went to check on Hope.

But just as she entered the room, Alaric did too.

"Look, here's the deal. I can study every sleep spell known to man but... I think we both know what's going on, deep down inside."

Alaric took a pause to clear his throat, trying not to have his voice break.

"You know that Lily is dead. And you know that if you wake up, you're gonna have to face that grief. And as somebody who has experienced that grief more times than I care to count, I would never wish that upon you or anyone else. But the truth is we need you here. I called Freya. She and your Aunt Rebekah are gonna be here tonight... To help you, when you wake up."

Once Alaric said his peace, he left.

Lily sat down at the edge of the bed as she looked at the sleeping tribrid.

"You've been avoiding me since you've been here." the voice made Lily tense up a little.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

Finally, Lily turned to say something but she stopped and shook her head.

This made her father take a deep breath. "Lily, I can't help you if I don't know what's wrong-"

"I don't want your help dad!" Lily yells as she stands up to face Stefan.

"You've been gone my whole life, and that's okay, because you did that to protect people, but I didn't need your help then, and I don't need it now. So please, just leave me alone for right now. I don't want anyone telling me all this bullshit that being is still ok. I want to be back in my body and that's not happening! I need time alone to adjust. Just let me have it."

With that, Lily walked out of the room.

---------------------

"No. No! Get out of my way!" Is what Caroline heard from an old friend as they neared her daughter's room.

Then they burst through the door.

"Tell me it's not true." Damon all but yelled when he walked in. But he went silent when to looked at his niece. "No. No! How did this happen! She was supposed to live! She was supposed to grow up!" he screamed at no one in particular.

"Oh my god. Caroline-" Elena started when she walked into the room.

That's when Caroline explained everything.

(A/N)- I know it's been a while, I've had severe writer's block for no reason. But I hope this is worth it ❤️
