"And now a word from the first year student representative! Midoriya Izuku!" Midnight announced, calling Izuku to the stage. Everyone was watching as the green head walked past his fellow students, walking up the steps and onto the stage. He could hear cheering and yelling from the stadium, making him glance up and instantly find the booth his family was in. Hisashi went a little overboard, buying up an entire block for the children he raised and was still raising that wanted to come and support Izuku. Which was of course everyone...
Izuku's face heated up in embarrassment as he lowered the mic. He just hoped they would behave themselves today... With a deep breath, he started talking.
"Thank you all for coming here today to watch a new generation of students give it their all in order to become the best people we can be. We'll show you what we're capable of... To go beyond and plus ultra!"
Everyone cheered at that, making Izuku sigh in relief, a smile plastered to his face. Thank God he said the right words! He wouldn't want to kick off the sportsfestival in an awkward manner...
"Now, as for the first round-!" Midnight continued as Izuku walked off stage again.
"-An obstacle course!"
She explained the course as the students made their way to the starting line. When the start signal was given, Todoroki almost instantly froze everyone's feet to the ground, some of his classmates jumping up, expecting this kind of move. Izuku had made himself float with his telekinesis while Katsuki shot himself up using his explosions.
"You're not gonna get me with that lousy trick icyhot!" Katsuki exclaimed, a grin on his face. Izuku rolled his eyes, releasing his telekinesis and sliding along the ice.
He shouldn't overuse his quirk right off the bat. The announcer said something about robots before he was almost hit by a giant zero pointer. What?! Izuku jumped back, now seeing the three zero pointers blocking his way. Was this the first obstacle? Are they crazy?! This isn't only the hero course! There are other students here too! What if they get hurt or injured?! Izuku sighed, guess that's where Recovery Girl comes in huh? Still, UA was way too reckless with their students simply for the entertainment of others...
"Out of my way extras!" Katsuki yelled, making Izuku look up at the sky. He was flying over the robots while one was frozen. Always the smart one, aren't you Kacchan? Izuku picked up a piece of the robot's armor, holding onto it in case he ran into any troubles later on. The next part was a ravine, making Izuku stop dead in his tracks. Seems like Todoroki and Kacchan are already on the other side huh... Time to catch up! Izuku used his telekinesis on the robot part, making it fly.
It was less exhausting to make other things fly instead of himself, so he used that to make his way across the ravine, basically surfing over the heads of his opponents. People with the ability to fly certainly had an advantage in this race according to Izuku. That thought was only confirmed more when he arrived at the next obstacle, a minefield. He didn't fly all the way over here though, just the ravine. Because Izuku may be the holder of All For One, he is also just a teenager and his body has its limits.
Besides, he didn't want to come across as overpowered on international television. Izuku stopped in his tracks when he arrived at the minefield, seeing Kacchan and Todoroki had ran halfway across the field already. They had to be careful, yet they were still fighting among themselves. Izuku could fly over to them if he wanted to, but he had to hold himself to the limitations he set for himself. If his skill level differed too much from the quirk apprehension test they took the first day, it would raise questions for sure.
No, he had to be smarter about this... Maybe help his quirk a little..? A smile came to his lips when he saw someone get pushed around by the small explosive mines. There were a lot of those at the start since everyone was being way too careful at first. One mine might not cause a lot of damage, but there is power in numbers, isn't there? Izuku's smile turned into a grin. Ah yes, he liked this plan~
Many students glanced his way as he dug up the mines, questioning his actions but not having the time to linger on it as they passed him by. Katsuki only had to go a quarter of the way through the field when a giant explosion sounded behind him. This got the attention of the announcer and spectators as well and suddenly all eyes were on the green haired boy flying through the sky. Izuku was holding onto the thing with all his might, flying over a big chunk of the minefield with little to no struggle.
"Tch... That crazy fucking nerd... I'll show you Deku!" Katsuki shouted from the ground, now using his explosions to propel himself. He didn't bother fighting Todoroki anymore, leaving the halfa behind. Shoto frowned, creating an ice path he could walk on without setting off the mines. He will not lose against anyone, certainly not after his declaration in the waiting room.
When Izuku was getting closer to the ground, he started using his telekinesis to carry him the last few meters, pushing the piece of metal to the ground with force as he made himself float above it. This explosion caused Katsuki and Shoto to lose their footing for a moment as Izuku landed in front of them, instantly running again.
"Get back here Deku! Don't think you can win from me!" Katsuki yelled, sprinting after him.
Shoto was on his heels though and they continued to switch between second and third until the finish line. Neither of them were able to catch up to Izuku, who panted as he entered the stadium again, falling down on the ground almost instantly. He'd never ran so fast without using a quirk before! Being chased by Kacchan and Todoroki sure made a rush of adrenaline flood his system!
"You okay nerd? You look ready to pass out" Katsuki teased, poking him with his foot as he looked down upon his childhood friend.
"That was intense! Which place did you get Kacchan? I wasn't really listening to the announcements earlier" Izuku asked, crawling up from the floor.
"Tch... Third. That fucking icyhot bastard just passed me at the finish line" Katsuki growled, crossing his arms.
"I'm sure you'll get him next round" Izuku chuckled, glancing aside at Shoto, who was keeping to himself. Second place isn't bad, but Izuku had the feeling he wasn't pleased with it either. Just like Endeavor will always be second to All Might... Hm, if Todoroki really thought he and Izuku had a special relationship, he must be extra pissed off right now.
"Oi, don't waste your time on that asshole" Katsuki grunted, seeing Izuku stare at Shoto.
"Just focus on me, alright? Cause if anyone is gonna kick your ass, it's gonna be me! I won't allow anyone else to beat you here, understand?!"
"I'm looking forward to it" Izuku smiled, freezing up when he heard his name being yelled from the stands.
"Ha, looks like the whole family came out" Katsuki laughed, looking at the part of the audience that was shouting at them.
Izuku's face turned red from embarrassment, whining about them being too much sometimes.
"Uncle Hisashi really does like to go overboard with these kinds of things huh?"
"It's so embarrassing... I mean, I'm glad they're all here! But I just wish they weren't so-" Izuku trailed off, his face paling when he saw a banner with his name go up.
"Obnoxious?" Katsuki added, raising a brow.
"Over the top, maybe? Overbearing? A little...plus ultra?"
"This isn't funny Kacchan!" Izuku whined as the ash blonde burst out into laughter. Their classmates stared at the scene, still not used to the fact they were close friends. They were polar opposites of each other! Midoriya was always kind and sweet and shy while Bakugou was always loud and aggressive with his foul mouth. They didn't interact an awful lot at school, at least not that people could see, so these moments were rare.
Once everyone was finished, Midnight explained who passed onto the next round and who got disqualified. Izuku knew he didn't have to worry about not passing onto the next round, but he was still nervous for his friends. He wanted everyone to do well at the sportsfestival, you know? Before long, Midnight started explaining what the next round would be. A cavalry battle in teams of 2-4 with a point based system.
Izuku gulped as everyone turned his way. First place got 10 million points on their head... Oh God... Everyone was going to come after him! Who would want to team up with him now? Everyone was quickly grouping up with their friends, muttering and strategizing, shooting glances at the green head as he wished to just sink into the ground.
"Oi"
Izuku glanced aside at Kacchan, who was wearing a wide grin on his face.
"Wanna show these pathetic extras the power of the Wonder Duo?"
Izuku's eyes widened at that name. It was a name they came up with when they were younger as they played heroes together. The Wonder Duo would be their team name when they went pro together, or at least that's what they promised each other when they were kids... Izuku didn't even know Kacchan still remembered that silly promise... He'd always thought Kacchan forgot or didn't want that anymore. It was nice to know he still remembered.
"B-but everyone will be after me" Izuku stammered, looking down again.
"A-and most teams are 3-4 people, which would give us a disadvantage too-"
"Tch, are you telling me I'm not worth 2 people?" Katsuki asked, determined to make this happen.
"Why do you want to team up with me so badly? I thought you wanted to kick my ass?" Izuku teased back, raising a brow.
"I also said I won't let anyone else kick you out of this competition and like you said, everyone is gonna be after you" Katsuki shrugged. Hm, he wasn't gonna let this go, was he? And nobody else was approaching them either... Whether it was due to Katsuki's personality and death glares or the prices on their head, Izuku didn't know. But it left him little choice... Well, it's not like this wouldn't be fun... Izuku smiled, tilting his head as he looked at Kacchan, stretching out his hand.
"You're gonna be my horse though"
"You weigh less anyway" Katsuki countered, grabbing it and pulling Izuku towards him.
"Let's show those fuckers we're the best damn team ever"
"Kacchan and teamwork? The class is gonna go nuts when they hear you say that" Izuku giggled, making Katsuki hit his arm.
Midnight was a little surprised when they came to sign up with their team.
"Are you sure you want to be with just the two of you?" she asked.
"You both carry a lot of points and-"
"It's not against the rules, is it?" Katsuki asked.
"Well, no-"
"Then we'll be teaming up!" Izuku smiled.
"Alright! I like your spirit!" Midnight smiled, writing it down and handing them their headband. 10 million and 200 points... That's a lot... Izuku took a deep breath, tying it to his forehead.
"The team we need to watch out for the most is definitely the team Todoroki is leading..." Izuku stated, looking at his childhood friend.
"That damn half-n-half bastard is going down" Katsuki grinned.
"Alright! Everyone get ready! Get to your places! The cavalry battle is about to start!" Midnight called out. Izuku yelped as Katsuki scooped him up, making the green head cling onto him for his dear life.
"Kacchan! Put me down!"
"Rich words for the one that's gonna be the rider!" Katsuki laughed, yet putting the green head back down.
"Come on, get on my back you damn nerd"
Izuku rolled his eyes, laughing when he got on. Kacchan got back up from his hunched position, holding onto Deku's legs as the nerd held onto his shoulders. The Wonder Duo was back in action after all these years, ready to kick some butt!
