"Ah! I see you're awake. How are you feeling?" Austin asked as he entered the room, noticing Felicity sitting up.

"Fine, except for the pain," Felicity replied, wincing at the sharp sting from her now-bandaged waist.

"That's normal. After all, you got four stitches," he said, checking the IV in her arm.

"Where am I? And where's Eva?" she asked, still uncertain of how she ended up in the hospital. The last person she remembered seeing was Eva.

"I just texted her. She'll be here in a few minutes," he replied.

"What's your name? She was quite worried about you, you know," he added with a gentle smile.

"My name is Felicity," she answered, secretly pleased that Eva had been concerned about her.

"And how do you know my little sister?" he asked, making her gasp in surprise.

"You're Eva's brother?" she asked, her voice a bit too loud, causing her to wince as pain shot through her body.

"I am indeed," Austin replied, slightly amused by the girl in front of him. He couldn't believe his always-composed sister would lose her cool over this girl. He'd seen Eva in a fit of worry the night before, only relaxing after he reassured her that Felicity was fine and just needed rest.

"So, how do you know my sister?" he asked again.

"We met once before," she replied, unsure whether or not to reveal that Eva was involved in something shady.

"That's all I get for saving your life?" he teased, pretending to be hurt with exaggerated theatrics.

"Stop harassing her and let her rest," a woman in a similar hospital coat said as she entered the room, playfully slapping Austin on the shoulder.

"Hi, dear. I've already informed Eva about you, and by the sound of her keys, she should be here any moment now. So get as much rest as you want until then. I'll take this one away," she said, dragging him out of the room.

Felicity was soon left alone in the huge room, her mind swirling with thoughts. She had just discovered that her crush had a handsome brother, and she realized she didn't actually know much about Eva beyond their brief daily conversations.

Before she could ponder further, the door to the ward burst open, and there Eva stood in all her glory. 'She looks like a goddess in those jeans,' Felicity thought as she gazed at her.

"Hi, little flower," Eva said, taking a seat next to the bed and softly stroking Felicity's right cheek.

"Hi," Felicity replied, blushing at the sudden display of affection.

"Do you think it's fun to take a bullet?" Eva chuckled as she asked.

"I just acted on instinct," Felicity replied, avoiding eye contact.

"Don't ever do it again," Eva said, tracing her hand over Felicity's bandaged waist, which was slightly exposed. "I would never forgive myself if you got hurt because of me again. It should be me protecting you, not the other way around."

"But I don't regret how things turned out," Felicity said with a small smile. "But I do want to tell you something when I get out of the hospital." She grabbed Eva's hand tightly.

"You can say whatever you want right now, little flower. I'm always here to listen," Eva said softly.

"But I want you to wait," Felicity said, turning her face away. Being this close to death for the third time in her life made her realize how precious these moments were. She didn't want to waste another moment, not expressing herself out of fear of rejection, even though the thought gnawed at her.

They spent the next hour in comfortable silence before Eva had to leave for work.

Evangeline's POV

"Boss, you need to check this out," Jack called out as I was leaving the office.

"What is it?" I asked, following him inside.

"We found a lead on the gang that attacked you two days ago," he said, making my heart race.

"Who was it?"

"No idea, except they all have a weird tattoo poking out from the sleeves of their shirts. We've got a clear picture of the tattoo in the office right now," he explained as we entered the room.

"This isn't familiar at all. Is it some new gang?" I asked.

"We're looking into it," he replied with a nod.

The tattoo was of a rat with a chain around its neck.

"Who even came up with such an outrageous tattoo design?" Alex said as he entered the room.

"What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be helping my brother with the French Mafia hit?" I asked, turning toward him.

"Well, your brother asked me to give this to you personally. He said it needed to be delivered hand to hand, and he didn't trust anyone else with it because it's important," Alex said, handing me the file he was holding.
