Chapter 4
Audrey let go of Williamâs wrist and headed toward the Silvandel Auction House with
Brian.
Behind her, Sarah, unwilling to relent, bit her lip and remarked pointedly, âAudrey, do you really think you can just stroll into the Silvandel Auction House? You need an invitation to gain entry.â
Sarah harbored a deepâseated hatred toward Audrey and naturally sought to humiliate her. Since Audrey had slapped her, Sarah yearned to witness Audrey become the laughingstock of everyone present and be summarily ejected from Silvandel Auction
House.
Sarah pondered, âThe Silvandel Auction House strictly issues invitations to Northvilleâs. elite and prestigious fa elite and prestigious families. Even affluent but ordinary families wouldnât make the cut. Itâs inconceivable that someone like Audrey, disgraced and once a convict, could possess an invitation.â
Audrey glanced at Sarah with a smile. âWho said I donât have an invitation?â With that, she produced a black invitation adorned with platinum edges, holding Sarahâs gaze with calm assurance.
Sarah had initially believed Audrey truly possessed an invitation, but upon seeing the black card, she sneered. Onlookers who had stayed to watch the drama began to laugh mockingly. Their gazes towards Audrey were filled with disdain and mockery.
âAudrey, if youâre going to forge an invitation, at least do your homework. Donât you know the invitations for Silvandel Auction House are always white?â Sarah remarked, almost bursting into laughter at Audreyâs stupidity.
âAudrey is truly naive, thinking she can stroll into Silvandel Auction House with a fake invitation. In less than half an hour, sheâll become the latest joke among Northvilleâs elite, Sarah thought.
Audrey remained oblivious to the mockery around her and regarded Sarah with disdain. âSarah, dare to make a bet with me?â she asked, her eyes glinting with calculation.
Brian, noticing the smirk on his motherâs face, knew she was about to stir up trouble.
âWhatâs the bet?â Sarah asked.
âI bet this invitation is authentic, and I can gain entry into Silvandel Auction House with it, Audrey said,

Sarah inwardly sincered, thinking, Audrey is digging her own grave. The invitations. have always been white. Thereâs no way sheâll get in with a black one.
âAlright. And what if you lose?â Sarah asked, brimming with confidence.
âIf I lose, Iâll kneel and apologize to you. But if you lose, you have to kneel and bow to me three times,â Audrey replied.
âAgreed!â Sarah said eagerly. To ensure Audrey couldnât back out, she turned to the guests and declared, âWeâll need witnesses for this bet.â
The guests readily agreed. âMiss Sarah, donât worry. Iâll be a witness,â one of them assured her.
âWe will, too,â chimed in another. Sarah thanked them, casting a triumphant glance at
Audrey.
Audrey disregarded Sarahâs smugness and handed her black invitation to the staff at the Silvandel Auction House. The staff member glanced at it and sneered. âIâm sorry, but this invitation is counterfeit. You canât enter.
Upon hearing this, Sarah smiled triumphantly. âAudrey, youâve lost.â
âNot necessarily,â Audrey said, casting a cold smile at Sarah. She then pulled out her phone and sent a message.
âAudrey, a loss is a loss. Youâre not thinking of calling for backup, are you?â Sarah taunted.
âYouâll find out soon enough whether itâs real or not,â Audrey replied calmly, showing no sign of panic.
A moment later, a hurried figure emerged from the Silvandel Auction House and made a beeline for Audrey. The staff member who had inspected Audreyâs invitation turned pale.
âWhy are you still out here? Why havenât you gone inside?â Jason asked, hurrying over after receiving Audreyâs message.
âMr. Davis, they wonât let us in. This gentleman here insists our invitation is fake,â Brian explained, gesturing towards the staff member.
The staff member, already pale, felt his knees go weak upon hearing Brianâs words. Iâm doomed. This woman knows Mr. Davis, and that invitation might actually be genuine,â he thought.

Jason narrowed his eyes at the staff member and said coldly, âYouâre fired.â The staff member collapsed to the ground in fear. The other onlookers, puzzled by the situation, glanced curiously at Jason.
Although Jason was the person in charge of Silvandel Auction House, he rarely appeared in public, Naturally, not many people recognized him. Watching him dismiss the staff member with just one sentence left everyone speculating about his true identity.
âLetâs go inside,â Jason said to Audrey, his tone respectful.
âWait a minute. Sir, my sisterâs invitation is fake. Are you sure she can enter? Even if you work for Silvandel Auction House, you donât have the authority to let someone in with a fake invitation,â Sarah said, her voice full of dissatisfaction.
Jason chuckled at Sarah as if she had said the funniest thing. âMs. Hernandez, you have no idea what youâre talking about. Just because youâve never seen a black invitation doesnât mean they donât exist. It simply means youâre not important enough to receive one. Only those of the highest status get black invitations. Besides Audrey, Dylan also
has one.â
He didnât mention that Audreyâs invitation was even more special, adorned with. platinum edges. Moreover, Audrey wasnât merely a guest; she was the rightful owner of Silvandel Auction House.
âImpossible!â Sarahâs face drained of color. âHow could Audrey possess such a prestigious invitation?â she wondered, refusing to believe it.
The other guests were equally shocked. The idea of Audrey, who had been imprisoned. and disowned by her family, possessing such a prestigious invitation was beyond their. comprehension.
