Chapter 2406
Alyssa woke up early today and, feeling somewhat fatigued, suggested that everyone leave,
allowing her some space. She then took a short rest on Balfour's sofa.
Upon returning, Balfour was met with this scene. His brow furrowed with concern as he approached
Alyssaâs side.
âGrandma, if you were tired, why didn't you go nap in my study? At your age, you shouldn't be
sleeping on the sofa. It could take a toll on your health! Quinton!â
Quinton entered the room at Balfour's call. âWhat is it, Sir?â
"What's going on here? Why didnât you think to suggest that Grandma should rest in the study?â
Alyssa stirred from her rest, intercepting Balfour's reprimand. âNow, don't go scolding Quinton on
my account. It was my choice to lay down here. He did offer your study, but I wanted to lounge on
your sofa today.â
Balfour held his tongue after that.
âAlright, Quinton, you may return to your duties. I need to discuss something with Balfour here,â
Alyssa said.
Once Quinton had left, Alyssa dropped her facade of nonchalance and expressed her worry.
"Did you just come from the hospital where Mara is? I can smell the antiseptics on you. How is she
recovering?â
Balfour replied, âShe had just woken up when I arrived. I brought up the matter of the spiked milk,
and she became so agitated that she passed out again.â
Alyssa scoffed, âThat girl faints at the drop of a hat, doesn't she? Let me guess, she got worked up
because she wouldn't confess to tampering with the milk?â
Balfour's gaze fell, his eyes masking his emotions. âIndeed, she did not confess.â
Alyssa snorted with contempt, âOf course, she wouldn't. Admitting to it would shatter the pitiable
image she's crafted for herself in front of you.â
Balfour remained silent.
âBalfour, I've warned you and Ivy more than once. Maraâs schemes run deeper than both of you
combined. What did you expect to gain by confronting her like that? It's clear Mara has no intention
of being your friend; she's playing a deeper game.â
Alyssa had always had a more discerning eye than Balfour.
âEnough of that! Once she's fully recovered, you need to send her back to her country,

if Mara doesn't leave soon, something irreversible might happen.â
âGrandma, let's wait until sheâs completely well before discussing her return. If I abandon her now,
I'd be failing her late sister, wouldn't 12 Balfour countered, a crease forming between his brows
Alyssa looked at Balfour, his troubled expression giving her a headache of her own
âDoesnât Mars have any other friends? She's been in this country for years. Is she really all alone
there?*
Alyssaâs words held a clear implication-Balfour was not the only connection Mara had to the world It
was Alyssaâs subtle way of reminding him that he wasn't obligated to be Mereâs savior
âFriends? Yes, she has them, but
