Chapter 2381
âThat's on us, too. The kid's had a lonelier upbringing than most, not growing up in a typical happy-
go-lucky household. There was a time when I even questioned if he was capable of loving someone,
but then again, he's always been so devoted to Dean and me. Now it seems, he might struggle to
recognize who he truly loves. You've got to trust my intuition, Ivy. If Balfour didnt care for you, I
wouldn't push you two together.â
After hearing Alyssaâs words, Ivy's heart sunk even deeper. She and Balfour had put on quite the
performance for Dean and Alyssa, never imagining they'd take it to heart.
The more Alyssa spoke, the sadder Ivy got. It seemed like Balfour truly didn't have a shred of love
for her.
âGrandma, I get what you're saying, and I'm so touched by how much Dean and you cherish me. I've
never felt this kind of favor, not even from my own parents! Even if Balfour and I go our separate
ways, I promise I'll come visit you often.
Ivy's words stopped Alyssa in her tracks, her hand swiftly clutching Ivy's wrist. say such frightening
things, darling.â
She cut herself off.
âHas something happened recently? I've asked you over and over again. If you really don't want to
talk about it, I'll let it be. But at least let me in on what's going on between the two of you. Even if
you're planning to leave Balfour someday, there must be a reason, right?â
Not wanting to leave Alyssa guessing, Ivy told her about the intimate photos of Mara and Balfour.
Alyssaâs brows furrowed deeper and deeper.
âMatters of the heart can't be forced, so if Balfour has feelings for Ms. Lewis, it'd be best for me to
step aside. I don't want to be the third wheel.â
Hearing Ivy speak so, Alyssaâs heart ached terribly.
She had suspected Mara of sneaking into Balfour's study with ill intentions, and it turned out she
was right! If only Mara had been caught red-handed back then. Now, finding evidence would be
next to impossible.
âIvy, I'm just going to ask you one thing: do you trust Balfour? Do you think heâs someone who
would engage in such sleazy behavior?â
Ivy hesitated, her answer already forming deep down.
Balfour and Ivy had an arrangement, and it was unlikely he would break it before the contract
ended.
âLook, I'm Balfour's grandmother, so naturally, might sound a bit biased in his favor. But I know my
grandson. He wouldn't be married to you and carry on with another woman. I remember visiting
Balfour's study one night. He's barely been in your bedroom since

you've been away, only returning to sleep. That night I found him asleep in the study, which struck
me as odd. To top it off, Ms. Lewis was there too. Balfour was sleeping on the couch, and what was
Ms. Lewis doing there? Up to no good, surely!
I can't be certain if she took the opportunity to snap those photos, but it definitely wasn't right. At
the time, 1 didn't suspect anything amiss, but looking back, I realize that's where the trouble
started.â
The conviction in Alyssaâs voice was clear; she was certain that was when the incident
occurred.
