Chapter 2319
âOuch!â Ivy couldn't help but cry out as the doctor's hand neared the swollen area
The doctor, on the other hand, seemed relieved as if a weight had been lifted, âLooks like it's just a
sprain, no pain in the surrounding areas. Still, let's get an X-ray to be sure. But you'll need to take it
easy for the next few days, no putting weight on it, alright? Mr. Howard, you must make sure your
wife doesn't use that leg, okay?â
Balfour nodded solemnly, his face etched with concern. He would do everything in his power to
prevent Ivy's injury from getting worse.
Relief washed over Ivy when the doctor confirmed it wasn't a fracture.
Resting at home for a few days beat being laid up for months.
After the X-ray, Balfour went to get her prescription. It was then that Mara arrived, carried in by
Mark who seemed to be having the worst luck.
Mark felt like he was lugging around a sack of potatoes, with Mara not cooperating at all. She lay
across his back lifeless, as if she were a zombie.
If he hadn't been holding her arms tightly, she probably would have tumbled to the ground. Didn't
she realize she could hurt herself even more? Her leg was already injured, and he was wary of
touching it â after all, she was a woman he didnât know, and it was important to maintain a certain
distance.
But Mara had her reasons. She almost wished she would fall and actually twist her ankle. If she
showed up at the hospital without a scratch, wouldn't her ruse be exposed?
As long as the only person she had to deceive was Balfour, she could probably get away with it,
provided those two old biddies didn't follow them.
Maraâs worries were premature; as she was taken to see the doctor, Balfour wasn't there. He was
busy picking up Ivy's medicine.
Mark accompanied her, and when the doctor asked which leg was injured, Mara nonchalantly
pointed to her left leg.
The doctor frowned, âMs. Lewis, are you sure? Your leg looks fine to me. Where does it
burt?â
There was no swelling â how could it be a sprain?
Mara scowled, clearly annoyed, âExcuse me, are you questioning me? If I say it hurts, it hurts. Why
would I come to the hospital if I wasn't in pain? If you can't figure it out, maybe you should get
another doctor. It's ridiculous incompetent doctors shouldn't be lecturing patients.â
The poor doctor had the misfortune of working late and dealing with such an

uncooperative patient, and now he was being accused of incompetence without even having a
chance to explain.
Mark félt bad for the doctor and cautiously touched Maraâs back, suggesting, âIf you're not in pain,
let's just go home and you can take a rest.â
Mara rolled her eyes dramatically. âAre you deaf or something? I said my foot hurts. If there's no
external injury, then take an X-ray and check for a sprain on the inside! Alyssa sent you to look after
me. Is this how you take care of me? You'd better be careful explaining this to her when we get
home!â
Mark, being the good-natured fellow he was, apologized to the doctor and asked if they could
please just get the X-ray done.
âThis is unnecessary drama, miss. If it were a sprain, there would be a visible swelling on your skin.
An X-ray is for fractures, and you're insisting on an internal sprain when there's no pain or swelling.
This is just...â
Mara cut him off with a cold laugh, slamming her hand on the doctor's desk, âI want to spend the
money on this X-ray. Are you going to do it or not?"
Fearing Maraâs temper might turn on the doctor, Mark hurriedly interjected, âDoctor, could you
please just arrange the X-ray for her? We can discuss the results afterwards. If there's nothing
wrong, we'll leave straightaway.â
Seeing their resolve to pay, the doctor reluctantly agreed to the X-ray.
