Chapter 2318
If Mark's mom hadn't been cooking for the Howard family, he might never have had such
an opportunity.
He was forever grateful to the Howards.
He had heard the story countless times from his mother-how when she was pregnant with him,
times got tough, especially after his father walked out on them.
If it weren't for Alyssaâs kind heart, taking them in when they had nowhere else to go, the outcome
could have been grim, possibly even tragic.
Balfour drove Ivy straight to the hospital, back to the same room, the same doctor.
The doctor was surprised to see them back so soon. âDidn't you just get discharged yesterday?
What happened now?â
But after noticing Ivy gingerly lifting her foot, revealing a swollen mass, his brow furrowed with
concern.
âWhat did you do to yourself? You really need to take care of your body, Mrs. Howard. You may be
young, but that doesn't mean invincible.â
On seeing the bruise marring Ivy's otherwise flawless skin, Balfour's expression tightened. He hadn't
realized in the woods just how badly she was hurt. No wonder she trembled in his arms-he had
thought it was the chill, but now it was clear she was fighting through
pain.
âCan you tell me if it's a sprain or a fracture?â Ivy asked, urgency in her voice. She was anxious to get
back to the set.
At this critical juncture, she couldn't afford to be sidelined with a broken bone which would take
months to recover. If it was broken, who knew how long before she could return to the cameras?
Balfour could tell what was weighing on her mind.
He was angry with Ivy, even angrier with himself.
How could she have not told him about the pain she was in? Would she rather bite her lip and bear
it than share her pain with him?
But if he hadn't gone off on her earlier that day, would she have followed him into the woods? No,
even if he hadn't lashed out, Ivy would have followed. He knew too well how kind-hearted she was-
her hesitation was out of concern for his safety.
Regret washed over Balfour in waves. He regretted his harsh words, even more so
because he knew exactly the kind of person Ivy was, and yet he had judged her with

malice.
She must have been so hurt.
Ivy stared down at the doctor examining her ankle, dreading the diagnosis she would
hear.
âDoes this hurt?â the doctor asked, and Balfour added a warning, âDonât downplay the pain just
because you're afraid of missing out on the set.â
Ivy's cheeks flushed with a quick bloom of red. âDo you think I'm a child? I would never be reckless
with my health.â
Balfour wasn't convinced. Hadn't she refused a stunt double before, only to be taken advantage of
by that other actress?
âIt doesn't hurt there.â
"And here?â
âThat's fine too.â
âWhat about here?â
