Chapter 1754
Thaddeus furrowed his brow. âIt isn't that I'm keeping you here, Sophia. It's the fact that you're also
barred from leaving the country. It's best you stay put and assist with the investigation.â
Sophia looked shocked once more. âWhat? Why? Why would that involve me? Why am I also being
kept from leaving the country?â
Thaddeus took a deep drag from his cigar. âHave you forgotten? Three years ago, you came back
for that man and managed some of the companies here. So some of the financial discrepancies
happened under your watch. So, you have to stick around and cooperate with the investigation.â
Sophia's brows knotted together like a pretzel.
How could this happen?!
If she was barred from leaving, didn't that mean she wouldn't be able to take Marcus away
immediately? What if Ellinor decided to strike while the iron was hot?
Sophia's feeling of uneasiness grew stronger, and she started to doubt the sudden crisis in her
father's companies.
It was all too coincidental, wasn't it?
Meanwhile, in the suite where Marcus and Tristan were.
Once they returned to their room, Marcus closed the door, stood up from his wheelchair, and took
off his jacket, throwing it on the bed.
His mood had been sour ever since he saw Ellinor.
Why did Ellinor have to show up with Bartlett at that scenic spot? Did they really have to enjoy the
scenery together?
This confusion and irritation were like a lump in Marcusâ throat.
Tristan watched as his father's towering figure stood up with a mix of admiration and awe in his
eyes. âDad, you're so tall! Can I be as tall as you when I grow up?â
Marcus looked down at his son and saw traces of Ellinor on his face. He tousled Tristanâs hair lightly
as he said, âIf you want to grow tall, you have to eat well.â
Tristan nodded, then blinked his big eyes and asked, âDad, are you in a bad mood?â
Marcus struggled to find a response.
Was it that obvious? Even his son could tell?
His father's silence confirmed Tristan's suspicions.
Normally, his father's expression was mostly stoic, but when he was in a bad mood, his whole aura
was different. Most people might not notice the change, but he, being his son, definitely could.
âDad, ever since you saw Ellinor, you've seemed upset. Are you not happy because there's another
handsome guy with Ellinor?â
His son had hit the nail right on the head. Marcus narrowed his eyes and glared at Tristan. âYou
think that flashy guy is handsome? What kind of taste do you have?â
Tristan was taken aback. He suddenly found his father's petty jealousy amusing and endearing. He
couldn't help but cover his mouth to stifle his laughter.
After noticing that his son was suppressing his laughter, Marcus got even more irritated. âWhat are
you laughing at?â
Unable to hold it in anymore, Tristan burst out laughing. âHahaha, Dad, you look so funny when
you're jealous.â
Marcus was speechless.
After Tristan had his fill of laughter, he turned serious and said, âDad, you really shouldn't be jealous.
Ellinor isn't interested in that guy at all. I saw it when I was with her; she barely paid him any
attention.â
Marcus felt slightly relieved now, but he was still upset. âIf sheâs not interested in him, why would
she go sightseeing with him?â
Tristan wasn't sure of the details, but he believed Ellinor wasn't the type to easily accept advances
from other men.
âDad, if you have questions, why donât you ask Ellinor? You can get in touch with her, can't you?â
