Chapter 1740
Bartlett sidled up to her with an innocent look on his face. âI was just trying to stick up for you, you
know? It's been three years, and heâs with another woman now. You canât let him win. You need a
boyfriend by your side to boost your morale, right?â
Ellinor pulled a half-smile.
âNo thanks.â She replied.
As she said this, she had already reached the car, pulling open the door and climbing in.
Bartlett knew he wasn't exactly welcome. He hurried around to the other side, lest she leave him
behind.
Once they were in, the car immediately started, and they were on their way.
Bartlett noticed Ellinor typing away on her phone, likely sending a message to someone.
With his keen senses, he squinted and thought for a moment before realization dawned on him.
âEllinor, was all of that just an act? Had you met Theo before this?â
Ellinor continued to gaze at her phone, not even lifting her head to glance at him. âCan you quiet
down?â
Quiet wasn't exactly Bartlett's style.
âEllinor, you're quite the actress. You even fooled me!â
Ellinor ignored him.
Bartlett leaned over, curious about what she was doing on her phone.
Just as he did, Ellinor hit send, locked her phone, and turned to glare at him. âWhat are you doing?â
Bartlett smirked and asked her a probing question. âEllinor, I'm curious. What game are you and
Theo playing? He hinted that I should take you away, but you're so calm and collected. Did you two
conspire this?" I
Ellinor glared at him. âWhat do you mean, âconspireâ? Mr. Rex, donât you think your choice of words
is a bit off? âConspireâ is usually used when talking about villains. Do you think I'm a villain?â
Bartlett chuckled. âYou are a villain! You've been nothing but cruel to me. You're always cruelly
breaking my heart.â
Ellinor fell silent.
It was impossible to have a decent conversation with this man.
Bartlett moved closer to her. âEllinor, enough with the games. What's going on? If you had already
met Theo, why did you act like it was your first time?â
Ellinor didn't feel like talking..
Meanwhile, in the RV speeding down the freeway.
Marcus showed no signs of unease as he sat in his wheelchair with his eyes closed to rest.
Sophia was anxious and was continuously observing Marcusâ expression. Seeing nothing amiss, she
felt relieved but also confused.
"Cough, cough. Marcus, what.what did Mr. Rex say to you earlier?â
Without opening his eyes, Marcus responded in a low voice. âWe just talked.â
A shiver ran down Sophia's spine as she anxiously asked, âWhat... What did he say?â
He said we used to be friends, and heâs been worried about me these past few years.â
Sophia took a deep breath
Did he say anything else?â
Marcus slowly opened his eyes to look at her. âNo. Why? Were you afraid he'd tell me something?â
Sophia immediately shook her head and forced a natural laugh. âNo! Of course not! I was just
asking! After so many years without seeing his old friend,! thought his appearance might trigger
some of your memories.â
She was desperately trying to probe him to find out if he remembered anything.
Marcus replied in a nonchalant tone. âI did find them somewhat familiar, but I canât remember
where I've seen them before. Especially that lady. Who is she? Were we close before?â
