Chapter 1696

Sophia froze. “No... I... I was just too anxious and eager to comfort you.”

Marcus looked at her with cold eyes. “Sophia, you probably never hoped for my legs to recover, did

you?"

Sophia reached out to touch him. “Marcus, you're my husband! Why wouldn't I hope for you to

recover?”

Marcus raised his hand and coldly brushed hers away. “Thanks to you, I'm exhausted. Can you just

be quiet for a bit?"

Sophia sat open-mouthed as her face stiffened. She then closed her mouth and quietly moved

aside.

The words “I'm exhausted’ from his mouth left a lot to the imagination. What had just happened

between him and the nurse in that special examination room?

Sophia felt as though a bomb was about to explode in her chest every time she thought about it.

Perhaps she had no right to be angry or jealous because she had arranged all of this in the first

place.

The ride back was silent. It wasn't until they parked in front of the hotel that either of them even

looked at each other.

Sophia helped Marcus out of the car and into his wheelchair. He didn't refuse, nor did he thank her

as usual. He was just silent and expressionless.

Sophia knew that what she had arranged today had upset Marcus. She didn't dare say anything

else.

But deep inside, she felt a bit comforted. His anger showed that he didn't enjoy today's activities

with that nurse.

Well, for now, she'll just let Marcus vent. In a few days, she would try to appease him. After all, the

doctor had successfully retrieved what she needed. As long as she could successfully conceive

Marcus's child, his attitude towards her would surely change.

While she was planning this in her mind, she pushed Marcus out of the elevator.

She wanted to take Marcus to greet her father first and then pick up Tristan, but Marcus refused to

enter Thaddeus’ room. Citing physical discomfort as his reason, he asked her to fetch Tristan.

Considering the hardship’ Marcus had endured today, Sophia didn't press him to greet his father.

She nodded and walked in by herself.

When Sophia walked in, Thaddeus was sitting on the couch, puffing a cigar, and making a phone

call with a frustrated expression.

Only after her father hung up did Sophia approach him. “Dad, what's wrong? Haven't you found

Bertha and Lea yet?”

Having been slapped by her father yesterday, Sophia decided to apologize to him first and deal with

Bertha and Lea later, after securing her inheritance.

Thaddeus glanced at his eldest daughter. He didn’t answer her question but instead asked, "You're

back? Where's the cripple?”

Sophia didn't like her father referring to the man she loved in such a way. “Dad, please don't call

Marcus that! He's your son-in-law!”

Thaddeus snorted as he uttered out some scornful sarcasm. “How did things go at the hospital?

Does my precious son-in-law still have any manliness left?”

Sophia frowned. “The hospital was very professional. Everything has been taken care of. Dad, I beg

you, can you show some respect to Marcus?”

Thaddeus glared at her. “Respect him? Has he ever respected me? He didn't even come in and greet

his father-in-law. Why should I respect him?!”

Knowing that she couldn't reason with her father, Sophia sighed helplessly. “Forget it, Dad. You're

not in a good mood, so I won't argue with you. Where's Tristan? I'm here to take him home to

Marcus; he's not in a good mood either.”
