Chapter 1688

Dr. Tam glanced at the time as he became aware of the faint hint of jealousy spreading across

Sophia's brow. He nodded. “Alright, I'll give them a call right now. Just hang on a sec.”

Sophia paced back and forth within the clinic, occasionally stealing glances at Dr. Tam as he dialed

his phone.

A minute later, Dr. Tam's brow furrowed.

He had made two consecutive calls, neither of which were answered by his nurse.

Something seemed amiss.

Sophia too sensed the anomaly and leaned in to ask, “Dr. Tam, what's going on?”

Dr. Tam looked slightly uncomfortable. “I apologize, Ms. Sophia. None of my nurses are answering

their calls. There might be some issues, so I better go and check

Issues? Sophia's eyebrows furrowed even further.

Could it be that the nurse was too engrossed and lost in her activities to pick up the phone?

The mere thought made her restless.

"What exactly is going on, Dr. Tam?! I'm coming with you to check it out!”

Dr. Tam did not refuse. He reached into his drawer and pulled out the keys to the special

examination room, leading Sophia out to investigate the situation.

Just then, Ida and Bryan, who were eavesdropping outside the door, had no time to retreat and

hastily hid themselves in a nearby storage room.

Sophia followed Dr. Tam out and, always being the suspicious one, felt a shift in the atmosphere.

She paused and looked around, but saw no one.

Noticing Sophia lagging behind, Dr. Tam turned and asked, “What's the matter, Ms. Sophia? Did you

see something?”

Sophia snapped back to reality as she frowned slightly. “Nothing; it's just that I thought I saw a

couple of shadows darting past the door gap.”

Dr. Tam was severely shortsighted. His thick glasses perched on his nose were a testament to that.

He hadn't noticed any shadows.

“This is a disused area of the hospital, so people hardly ever come here. Ms. Sophia, you must be

mistaken.”

Was she mistaken?

If it were a crowded place, she might have been mistaken and would have brushed it off.

But in a place where people hardly ever come, how could she have seen two shadows out of the

blue?

Still not convinced, Sophia continued, “Dr. Tam, could you wait a sec. I want to check out that

storage room for any signs of people.”

Dr. Tam did not object; he simply nodded and waited for her.

Sophia then moved towards the storage room. She was sure she had seen the two shadows dart

towards the storage room. She thought she even heard the door close.

As she reached the storage room, Sophia reached out to push the door.

But it wouldn't budge; it was locked.

This made Sophia even more suspicious. She turned to Dr. Tam. “Does this storage room usually

stay locked?”

Dr. Tam looked surprised. “No. It's just full of unused junk; there's nothing valuable, so there's no

need to lock it."

Sophia furrowed her brows. “Then why is it locked now?”
